THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING ENGLISH IN TODAY’S WORLD

Annotation

English has become one of the world’s dominant languages today, significantly

influencing global communication, science, business, and technological development.
It has not only become a tool in international cooperation and education but has also
become an integral part of society through culture, art and mass media. Learning
English is not just an advantage- but it is a fundamental necessity. It is spoken by over
1.5 billion people worldwide. As the most widely spoken language, English serves as
a bridge to making it an essential tool among linguistic backgrounds. Whether it is for
academic success, career opportunities or access to high quality information, mastering
English provides human being with a significant advantage. This article examines the
importance of learning English in education, business, technology, science, and cross-
cultural communication and also highlights real-life examples and recent developments
that emphasizes its growing relevance.

English is the dominant language of higher education and academic research in

many of the world’s leading universities and research institutions. In many majority of
higher education institutions such as HARWARD, OXFORD, CAMBRIDGE, MIT,
and STANFORD offer their courses in English. Moreover, many developing countries
are adopting English as an instruction to prepare students for global competition.

Key benefits in education:
-access to high-quality learning materials:80% of academic journals and researches are
in English language.
-international scholarships: most of the global scholarch such as FULBRIGHT, DAAD,
CHEVENING and ERASMUS+ require English language.
-exchange programs like UGRAD allow students to study in different countries but
with English as the main requirement.

For example, in 2023, Uzbekistan launched the “English for science” ingenuity to
encourage researches to publish their scientific work in English with the reason making
their findings more accessible to global academic community.

English boosts career opportunities and economic growth.

The ability to communicate in English significantly enhances job prospects. In the 21st-
century job market, multinational corporations and global industries demand English
proficiency as a core skill.
-Leading technology companies such as Google, Microsoft, Tesla, and Apple require
employees to be fluent in English.
-Global corporations like Amazon, Deloitte, Goldman, McKinsey, conduct meetings
and contracts in English.
-In Aviation and Tourism also English is as the official language of communication for
pilots, flight attendants and travel agents.
-Also the world’s top news agencies like BBC, CNN, REUTERS and film industries
such as HOLLYWOOD and NEFTLIX primarily use English.
Key statistics:

A 2022 British council report found that professionals with English proficiency earn
30-50% higher salaries than those without.

A 2024 World Economic Forum study concluded that English-speaking countries have
stronger GDP growth rates due to increased global trade and investments.

For example, in 2023, IT Park Uzbekistan reported that software developers who
mastered English earned twice as much as those without English skills, as they could
work on international projects.

English as the language of science, technology, and innovations

English is the global language of science, medicine, artificial intelligence, and space
exploration. Major scientific breakthroughs, patens, and technological advancements
are recorded in English, making it essential for researchers and professionals in STEM
field.

all developed using English-based programming languages and research papers.
In 2024, Harvard Medical School published groundbreaking research on cancer
treatment, with English as the primary language, making it accessible to scientists
worldwide.

English in global business and trade

In international trade, English is the common language used in business negotiations,
contracts, and e-commerce. Countries with a high level of English proficiency attract
more foreign investments and business partnerships.

-E-commerce dominance: platforms like Amazon, Alibaba, eBay, and Shopify operate
primarily in English.
-International partnerships: English facilities trade agreements between countries.
-Entrepreneurship and startups: business owners with English skills can access global
markets, investors, and customers.

For example:
In 2023, Uzbekistan’s My Taxi successfully expanded to international markets after
launching its app English, attracting investments from Europe and the USA.

English for cultural exchange and digital communication
English connects people across different cultures, enabling the exchange of ideas,
traditions, and values. With the rise of social media and digital platforms, English has
become the dominant language of the internet.

English in digital media:
-social media: 80% of global content of Instagram, twitter, and linked is in English.

streamed in over 100 countries, primarily in English.
The top 10 most-watched You tube videos of 2024 were all in English, proving its
dominance in digital entertainment.

The future of English: AI, VR, and Blockchain in education
As technology evolves, English continues to play a crucial role in artificial intelligence
(AI), virtual reality (VR), and blockchain technology. The future of education,
business, and digital identity will rely heavily on English based system.

Emerging trends:
-AI powered tutors (like Duolingo AI ) enhance English learning.
-VR based classrooms ( like Meta’s horizon) allow immersive English language
learning experience.
-blockchain for education secures international English language certifications and
degrees.
