METHODS FOR ENRICHING THE VOCABULARY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE OF SCHOOLCHILDREN THROUGH ONLINE GAMES

Abstract

This study provides a comprehensive examination of innovative, technology-mediated approaches to enhancing schoolchildren’s English vocabulary development through the integration of online games into the learning process. In recent years, the rapid advancement of digital technologies has significantly reshaped pedagogical practices, giving rise to interactive learning environments that complement traditional instruction and respond to diverse learner needs. Within this context, game-based digital platforms have gained increasing attention for their capacity to facilitate incremental vocabulary acquisition, strengthen semantic networks, and sustain learner engagement through immersive and motivational elements. The paper offers a systematic overview of the principal types of online games employed in vocabulary instruction—including gamified applications, multiplayer platforms, adaptive learning tools, and scenario-based simulations—and evaluates their pedagogical value from cognitive, socio-constructivist, and communicative perspectives. Particular emphasis is placed on the mechanisms through which these games support retention, such as spaced repetition, contextualized exposure, multimodal input, and immediate feedback.
