About the Journal

Assalomu alaikum, conference participants, ladies and gentlemen!

Today, as long as we have gathered together for one purpose, that is, to talk sincerely about the work carried out in translation sphere, problems and solutions, plans for the future, to exchange ideas, first of all I express my gratitude to all of you for your participation in this prestigious event. We all know that in the current globalisation process, the role of translation in this period is more important than ever before. Thanks to the same translation, literature, cultures are exchanged between peoples, the bonds of friendship are strengthened, the hearts are connected. Therefore, the development of translation work in our country, raising the learning of foreign languages to a new level is considered at the level of Public Policy. Also, the head of our state personally pays great attention to the task of bringing literature and art, especially classical literature closer to our people, studying this unique heritage deeply and translating it into foreign languages and promoting it worthy of the world. On April 5, 2018, a special resolution of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan № PP-3652 “On measures for further improvement of the activities of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan” was adopted. The 20th paragraph of the resolution is aimed at translation work, in particular, the development of artistic translation in our country, in which a number of important tasks such as translation into foreign languages, publication of the masterpieces of world literature into our native language, as well as the most outstanding samples of National modern and classical literature have been identified. On May 19, 2021, the decree of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan № PP-5117 “On measures to bring the activities of popularization of foreign languages to a qualitatively new level” was adopted. Let's briefly talk about what work has been done today in our university on the implementation of those decisions. At our university, scientific centers such as “Translation Scientific Research Institute”, “Scientific Advisory Center”, “translator’s office” are being restored and functioning with the aim of developing their skills in translation. One of the actual tasks set out in the presidential decree – the translation of the most outstanding masterpieces of classical literature into foreign languages-provided the execution of honorable and at the same time extremely complex creative tasks. Alisher Navoi’s 100 most popular gazals were translated into English and German. I am pleased to say that this charitable work was carried out by dedicated professors and teachers of our university - experienced translators and published in the book form. These translations were widely studied and presented in foreign countries such as Bangladesh, Belgium, Germany, America. Another of our most ambitious plans for the future is the establishment of mutual memoranda by the Translation scientific research institute with translation schools abroad.

Systemic works have been done in our university on simultaneous and written translation. Among the outstanding synchronic translators, talented young personnel with sufficient qualifications and skills in written translation are trained by the talented teachers of the Translation department. These are the few successes we have achieved in the translation industry, of course. In the future, we must carry out a wide range of work in this direction.

In conclusion, as long as we strive to perfect our youth in the spirit of national and universal values, translation studies creates a solid ground for us not to fall into our own shell, to have a worthy place in the world community.

Thank you for your attention!

Azizov Ulugbek Botirovich,

Rector of Uzbekistan state world languages university
