Philological education sets itself the task not only
of learning languages and literature, but also of
developing oral and written language skills.
These skills are fundamental to the professional
activity of philologists, as they allow them to
effectively analyze texts, express their thoughts
and interact with the audience. In this article, we
will consider practical methods for the
development of oral and written speech, which
can be introduced into the educational process in
the philological direction.

1. Reading and analyzing literary works

• Active reading: Annotating the text, highlighting

key ideas and concepts.

• Discussion of what has been read: Group

discussions and debates help to develop oral
speech, learn how to argue your point of view and
analyze the opinions of others.

• Writing essays and critical reviews: Helps

improve writing skills, teaches text structuring,
and developing your own style.

2. Practical exercises in rhetoric

• Master classes on public speaking: Development

of verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

• Training in articulation and diction: Improving

the clarity and expressiveness of speech.

• Improvisational exercises: Formation of the

ability to quickly find answers and solutions in
non-standard situations.

3. Writing scientific and research papers

• Mastering the methods of academic writing:

Formatting texts according to standards,
developing the ability to present the material
logically and consistently.

• Participation in conferences and seminars:

Presentation of your research in front of an
audience,

receiving

feedback,

developing

convincing reasoning skills.

4. Creative tasks

• Writing poetry and prose: Developing creative

thinking, experimenting with style and genres.

• Screenwriting and drama: Working on

dialogues, developing the ability to create vivid
and memorable characters.

5. The use of digital technologies

• Blogging and social media: Development of

skills in writing short texts adapted to the
interests of the target audience.

• Podcasting and video blogging: T

he practice of

oral speech, the development of the ability to
present information in an interesting and
accessible way.

The development of oral and written language in
the philological field requires an integrated
approach, including both traditional teaching
methods and innovative practices. It is important
to create conditions for the active application of
acquired skills in a variety of situations: from
academic writing to public speaking. This
approach not only contributes to the professional
development of future philologists, but also

enriches their personal development, forming
self-confidence and the ability to creatively
express themselves.

Philology, as the science of language and
literature, involves the development of both oral
and written speech[1]. Within the framework of
this discipline, students study language
structures, literary works, language history,
stylistics and much more. However, in order to
fully master the philological direction, it is
necessary to actively apply practical methods of
developing oral and written speech. The
development of oral speech plays a key role in the
training of future philologists. It not only
promotes communication and the exchange of
thoughts, but also forms the ability to analyze and
interpret texts. Students can participate in group
discussions of literary works, expressing their
thoughts and analyzing texts. This helps them
improve their analytical thinking skills and
express their thoughts competently and
confidently. Making presentations on various
topics from philology contributes to the
development of public speaking skills. Students
perform in front of an audience, demonstrating
their knowledge and skills to structure
information. The organization of role-playing
games in which students can play the roles of
literary characters or teachers helps them
immerse themselves in the context and
atmosphere of works, as well as develops skills of
improvisation and expressiveness of speech[2].
Conducting debates on controversial issues from
the field of literature and linguistics promotes the
development of argumentation and persuasion

skills, as well as teaching students to listen and
respect the points of view of others.

Writing is also important for philological
education, as students must be able to express
their thoughts clearly and logically in writing.
Essay writing assignments allow students to
systematize

their

knowledge,

formulate

arguments, and express their thoughts on the
topic. Essay tests also help teachers assess the
level of assimilation of the material. Writing
analytical papers based on the studied texts
contributes to the development of analytical
thinking and the ability to argue their
conclusions. Assignments for writing reviews and
reviews allow students to express their opinions
about literary works or scientific works, analyze
them in terms of content, style and aesthetic
value. Essays on given topics contribute to the
development of creativity and literary skills of
students, as well as teach them to structure texts
and select an adequate language register.

Philology, as the science of language and
literature, requires from its students not only
theoretical knowledge, but also confident oral
and written skills[3]. Mastering these skills plays
a key role in the successful studies and future
professional activities of philologists. In this
article, we will consider practical methods that
can help students of the philological field in the
development and improvement of their oral and
written speech.

expressiveness of oral speech. The division into
teams stimulates constructive competition and
motivates for a deeper study of issues. Imitation
of various life situations or literary characters
contributes to the development of empathy,
linguistic flexibility and the ability to improvise.
Students can transform into characters in the
works and conduct dialogues, which helps them
better understand the text and its context. The
organization of student presentations, speeches
and lectures on various topics contributes to the
development of public speaking skills, the ability
to work with the audience and build a logical
structure of the speech.

Assignments for writing essays, essays and essays
on various topics help students develop analytical
skills, the ability to argue their point of view and
express their thoughts clearly and consistently on
paper. The analysis of literary works requires
students to have a deep understanding of the text,
the ability to justify their interpretations and
analyze the structure and style of the work[4].
Conducting seminars and practical classes on text
correction and editing helps students improve
their spelling, punctuation and stylistics skills, as
well as realize the importance of editing and
processing text for its qualitative presentation. It
is important to note that the effective
development of oral and written speech requires
a systematic approach and constant practice.
Educators should strive to create a stimulating
learning environment in which students feel
comfortable and are free to experiment with
different ways of expressing their thoughts and
ideas[5]. Only such an approach will allow you to

achieve a high level of oral and written language
proficiency

and

ensure

the

successful

professional development of future philologists.

thoughts about the material being studied.

Self-study is the use of online courses,
audiobooks, podcasts and other resources for
deep immersion in the language environment and
culture.

The development of oral and written language in
the philological field requires an integrated
approach

combining

traditional

teaching

methods and modern technologies[6]. Individual
and group work, active use of language in real
communication situations, as well as constant
practice and self-improvement are the keys to
successful language acquisition at a high level.

The development of oral and written speech is a
key component of philological education.
