Abstract

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has gained significant importance in academic and

professional settings, where learners require tailored language instruction relevant to their
fields. With advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), innovative AI-driven educational
programs have transformed English language learning for ESP students. This article explores
the roles of AI in ESP instruction, including personalized learning, intelligent tutoring,
automated assessment, and real-time feedback. It also discusses the benefits and challenges
associated with AI-driven ESP instruction, emphasizing its potential to enhance engagement,
efficiency, and effectiveness in learning specialized English skills. The article concludes by
recommending strategies for integrating AI into ESP programs while addressing ethical and
technical considerations.

Annotatsiya

Maxsus maqsadlar uchun ingliz tili (ESP) akademik va kasbiy muhitlarda muhim

ahamiyat kasb etdi, bu yerda o’rganuvchilar o‘z sohalariga moslashtirilgan til ta’limini talab
qiladilar. Sun’iy intellekt (SI) sohasidagi yutuqlar bilan SIga asoslangan innovatsion ta’lim
dasturlari ESP talabalari uchun ingliz tilini o‘rganishni o‘zgartirdi. Ushbu maqolada ESP
o‘qitishda sun’iy intellektning roli, jumladan, shaxsiylashtirilgan ta’lim, aqlli repetitorlik,
avtomatlashtirilgan baholash va real vaqt rejimida fikr-mulohazalar o‘rganiladi. Shuningdek, u
sun’iy intellektga asoslangan ESP ta’limi bilan bog‘liq afzalliklar va muammolarni muhokama
qilib, uning ingliz tilidagi maxsus ko‘nikmalarni o‘rganishda ishtirok etish, samaradorlik va
natijadorlikni oshirish imkoniyatlarini ta’kidlaydi. Maqola axloqiy va texnik jihatlarga e’tibor

искусственного интеллекта (ИИ) инновационные образовательные программы,
основанные на ИИ, преобразили обучение английскому языку для студентов
специальных учебных заведений. В данной статье рассматривается роль ИИ в обучении
ESP, включая персонализированное обучение, интеллектуальное обучение,
автоматизированное оценивание и обратную связь в режиме реального времени. В нем
также обсуждаются преимущества и вызовы, связанные с обучением ESP на основе ИИ,
подчеркивая его потенциал для повышения вовлеченности, эффективности и

Introduction

The increasing demand for specialized English language proficiency in fields such as law,

engineering, health, and commerce led to the creation of English for Specific Purposes (ESP)
programs. Human lecturers who adapt the content to the students’ academic and professional
needs are commonly used in conventional ESP training. However, technological advancements,
particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), have created new potential for offering
more customized, efficient, and adaptable training [1]. This article examines the various ways
AI can be used to teach English to ESP students, highlighting both its advantages and
disadvantages. By customizing the learning process, AI-powered solutions improve ESP
education. AI systems evaluate students' language skills, learning preferences, and progress
using machine learning algorithms, allowing for the creation of customized curricula.
Instruments like NaturalFor example, AI-driven language learning platforms such as Duolingo,
Babbel, and ChatGPT offer customized lesson plans based on a learner’s specific industry. These
programs use AI to identify common language challenges within particular fields and tailor
vocabulary exercises, grammar explanations, and contextualized practice materials
accordingly.

In AI-enhanced ESP education, Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) are essential. ITS uses

AI to give students real-time direction, clarifications, and remedial feedback. In contrast to
conventional teaching approaches, which depend on set curriculum, ITS adapts dynamically to
the demands of each learner, resulting in more efficient and interesting education [2].

ITS can replicate real-world professional situations for ESP students. An AI-powered

instructor, for instance, can deliver case studies, medical reports, and doctor-patient
communication exercises during medical English training while providing immediate feedback
and recommendations for enhancement [1]. AI tutors can also help users with business English
by offering context-based suggestions and corrections during presentations, negotiations, and
communication.

In order to guarantee that students gain the language proficiency required for their

particular industries, assessment is an essential part of ESP training. By automating
comprehension exams, speech analysis, and grammar and vocabulary checks, AI-powered
assessment systems expedite the review process. Because these technologies offer instant
feedback, students can spot and fix their errors in real time [4].

By identifying faults unique to the sector, offering corrections, and guaranteeing

coherence and clarity, AI-driven writing tools like Grammarly and Turnitin support ESP
students in improving their writing. Similar to this, speech recognition software like iTalki and
Google Speech-to-Text evaluates intonation, fluency, and pronunciation correctness to help
learners master spoken English that is pertinent to their line of work.

By exposing students to real-world professional language usage, AI applications expand

ESP learning outside of conventional classroom environments [5]. Artificial intelligence (AI)-

powered chatbots and virtual assistants mimic professional conversations, giving students the
opportunity to practice speaking in authentic settings.

For example, by simulating air traffic control interactions, AI chatbots incorporated into

aviation training programs can improve pilots' comprehension and reaction times. AI-powered
legal assistants in legal English training prepare law students for professional communication
by offering contract drafting activities and simulated courtroom scenarios. These programs
give ESP learners the language proficiency they need for their employment by bridging the gap
between theoretical learning and real-world application [3].

ESP education powered by AI has a number of obstacles in spite of its potential. The

precision and dependability of content produced by AI is one of the main issues. Even while AI
systems can process and produce specialized language, errors can still happen, especially in
more technical subjects. It takes ongoing human supervision and professional validation to
guarantee the legitimacy of AI-driven materials.

Affordability and accessibility present another difficulty. Students from disadvantaged

circumstances may not be able to attend advanced AI-driven ESP programs due to their high
cost. Digital literacy and consistent internet connectivity are also prerequisites for AI-powered
learning, which may be obstacles for certain students.

Data security and privacy also raise ethical questions. Large volumes of user data are

collected and processed by AI-driven language learning platforms, which raise concerns
regarding user permission and data privacy. Addressing these issues requires putting strict
data privacy regulations into place and making sure AI algorithms are transparent.

The following suggestions should be taken into account by educators and legislators in

order to optimize the advantages of AI in ESP instruction:

• AI and Human Instruction Integration: AI should support human educators rather than

take their place. Learning outcomes can be maximized using a mixed learning strategy that
combines expert advice with AI-driven education.

• Continuous AI Improvement: To improve accuracy, particularly in domain-specific

language applications, AI models should be updated on a frequent basis.

• Greater Accessibility: Efforts should be made to provide reasonably priced AI-powered

ESP programs and train students in digital literacy.

• Ethical AI Implementation: To guarantee ethical use in education, developers should

give data protection first priority and establish open AI decision-making procedures.

Conclusion

By providing intelligent tutoring, automated evaluation, real-world application

simulations, and tailored learning experiences, AI systems have completely transformed ESP
training. These developments improve the efficacy and efficiency of ESP instruction, making it
possible for students to more successfully pick up specialized language skills. To fully utilize AI
in ESP training, however, issues with ethics, accessibility, and accuracy must be resolved.
Teachers can use AI to enhance language learning for ESP students around the world by
combining it with conventional teaching methods and making sure it is implemented
responsibly.
