Abstract

The undoubted and justified interest of researchers in comorbid conditions in rheumatic diseases has not faded away in the last decade, but the concept of multimorbidity has not yet been integrated either into clinical practice or into scientific research in the field of rheumatology. Renal comorbidity is common in patients with rheumatic disease on the basis of regular examination of serum and urine renal function tests. When patients have both arthritis and kidney disease, the following questions should be addressed. Is kidney disease a complication of rheumatic disease or its treatment, or arc they both manifestations of the same systemic autoimmune disease? This article is intended to clarify the above issues and to be used by rheumatologists and nephrologists in the treatment and monitoring of these diseases.
