Introduction

Language learning plays an important role in a person's intellectual development. As the world

becomes more globalized, knowledge of foreign languages is becoming necessary not only to

increase job opportunities, but also for cultural exchange and international cooperation.

Language learning traditionally involves classroom instruction, textbooks, and structured

practice.Whereas, traditional methods (for example, memorizing grammar or collecting vocabulary)

are effective, but for many people they are considered boring. Therefore, modern students are

looking for new, interesting and effective methods. Of course, modern and convenient methods,

especially those that allow you to learn a language quickly and easily without spending a lot of time

on learning a language, are at the forefront of the information sought by the entire world's population.

Because in today's society, it is difficult to achieve good results in the process of studying and

working without knowing a language. In this article, we will discuss in detail the most unique and

effective methods of language learning and how to apply them. Recent research highlights several

unconventional methods that offer effective and engaging alternatives. These unusual ways tap into

creativity, social interaction, and technology, providing diverse pathways for language acquisition.

Literature review

A growing div of literature explores these innovative approaches. For example, Krashen’s Input

Hypothesis (1985) emphasizes the importance of comprehensible input in natural settings, which

supports immersive experiences such as language learning through gaming or virtual reality (VR).

Studies by Reinhardt and Sykes (2014) demonstrate how digital games create meaningful contexts

for language use, enhancing motivation and retention. Similarly, the use of music and songs has been

shown to improve vocabulary and pronunciation by leveraging rhythm and melody, as noted by

Medina (2011).

Another unusual method involves language learning through storytelling and drama. Research by

Wright, Betteridge, and Buckby (2006) indicates that dramatization encourages learners to

internalize language patterns emotionally and cognitively, fostering deeper engagement.

Additionally, social media platforms and language exchange communities provide informal, real-

time communication opportunities, which promote authentic interaction and cultural exchange

(Thorne, 2013).

Discussion of these methods reveals several advantages. They often reduce learner anxiety by

creating enjoyable, low-pressure environments. The integration of multimedia and social elements

caters to different learning styles, making language acquisition more personalized. However,

challenges exist, such as the need for learner discipline and the potential for distraction in digital

environments.
Language learning plays an important role in a person's intellectual development. As the world

becomes more globalized, knowledge of foreign languages is becoming necessary not only to

increase job opportunities, but also for cultural exchange and international cooperation.
One of the first methods is Gamification.
Games have a strong effect on human psychology. Making the language learning process like a game

increases motivation. This method is considered to be a very convenient and effective method for

people of different ages and professions, and is the most useful method that is rapidly gaining

popularity. As examples, it is appropriate to mention the following:
• Mobile applications such as Duolingo, Memrise - here tasks come with levels, points and rewards,

thematically in a simple way, increasing the ability to quickly master a language. You can learn in an

entertaining way, without getting bored.

• Video games for learning languages (for example, playing "The Sims" or "Assassin's

Creed" in a foreign language). In this case, learning a language in a realistic and unconscious way

during the game process itself will not be a problem.
Advantages: reduces boredom, makes daily exercises a habit.
The second method is Immersion (Immersion in the language).
This method involves learning a language in a natural environment. The natural environment helps

the human mind to actively use the language being learned in natural situations. The following are

some of the methods of application:
• Movies and TV series – watching without subtitles or with local subtitles. This method is

considered to be the most beneficial in language learning, because during the films, new information,

real situations, emotions are visually presented, which increases the ability to quickly learn the

language and apply them in reality. It has been proven many times that not only learning new words

in the language, but also problems with pronunciation, comprehension, writing and reading

disappear when watching with subtitles.
• Podcasts and radio stations – listen to them for 10-15 minutes every day. Develops listening skills.
• Traveling abroad is the best opportunity for practical communication. Because this means applying

the learned language skills in reality.
Efficiency: rapid development of speech and hearing skills, learning correct pronunciation.
As a third method, we can say Mnemonics (Memory techniques). Mnemonics can be used to easily

memorize complex words and rules. Examples:
• Association method - associating a new word with something familiar (for example, "apple" - apple,

"яблоко" - apple).
• Creating short stories - combining several words into one story.
Benefits: the ability to record in long-term memory, quickly recall and actively use learned words in

a real environment.
Another method is Language Exchange.
Foreign language learners consolidate their knowledge by communicating with each other. The fact

that we are in the era of technology allows us to widely use the capabilities of this method. In

particular; it is easy and convenient to implement it through platforms, programs, chats. Below are

some platforms and programs.
Platforms:
• Tandem, HelloTalk, Duolingua - the ability to communicate in different languages.
• AI - general use of artificial intelligence capabilities, conversation.

• Local language club - live communication.
Advantages: real-life communication experience, the ability to immediately correct mistakes.
Another of the most important methods is the use of technology, modern programs and devices make

language learning easier.

The following tools can be used:

• Artificial Intelligence (AI) – ChatGPT or Google Translate. AI is the general use of artificial

intelligence capabilities.
• Virtual Reality (VR) – simulation of a conversation in a foreign language.
Advantages: personal study plan, the ability to practice anywhere and anytime.
The next method is Shadowing (Verbal repetition)
Listening to audio or video materials and immediately repeating them. This increases the speed of

speech. In this method, by repeatedly reproducing memorable parts of short videos or cartoons and

movies, it is possible to make the pronunciation like that of a native speaker.
Another method is learning through music and songs.
Improve pronunciation by understanding and singing the lyrics of songs. It is known that when

working with songs, the language being studied is easily mastered. Because music has an impact and

penetrates the heart and mind faster than other methods.
The last method is to keep a diary.
Every day, write daily notes using new words and phrases. In this way, you can realize and correct

your own mistakes. It is very effective not only in a notebook, but also by opening a group on

Telegram channels, where the learner can also write down his daily plans.
The last method is Self-talk.
This method is considered the simplest and most common method for those who are just starting to

learn a language. Continuously talking to yourself for 10-15 minutes for 1 month accelerates the

growth of the point. There is no simpler way to practice saying what you think in a new language.

In conclusion, it can be said that in order for the language learning process to be interesting and

effective, it is necessary to use different methods. Everyone can choose the method that suits them.

The main thing is consistency and constant practice - the results will be noticeable quickly. While

traditional methods remain valuable, embracing unusual ways of learning languages—through

games, music, drama, and social interaction—can enrich the learning experience. Future research

should investigate how these methods can be systematically integrated into language curricula to

maximize their benefits.
