The media has emerged as the most potent tool for influencing public opinion

about both teaching and learning as well as entertainment. In addition to being
enjoyable, movies can be effective teaching and learning tools, particularly for cultural
and language learning (Ismaili, 2013). Movies in particular are one of the most
effective tools for language acquisition since they have a global impact on English
learning. With movies, we aim to learn English while hearing it used in a very natural
way. Even if certain passages could be spoken too quickly for you to understand, it will
be the ideal way for you to become acclimated to hearing native speakers converse.
We have compiled a list of effective ways to learn English from movies:
1. Follow your (film) interests. 2. Turn on the (right) subtitles. 3. Repeat your favorite
expressions. 4. Review movies online. 5. Organize your time to watch more movies.6.
Every once in a while, watch a movie with a native

English-speaker. This research process has already begun. However, movies can

be an effective language education tool in addition to being a source of amusement.

The use of movies in the teaching and learning of other languages is nothing

new. The usage of movies in the classroom not only helps the teacher to vary the lesson

and provide real-world context, but it also allows students to draw on prior knowledge
and experiences during content-based conversations.

However, studies have shown that movies can help children strengthen their

general literacy skills. Additionally, we listed a few drawbacks of watching English-
language films. While it is preferable to concentrate on dramatic qualities rather than
language learning aspects, this is not always achievable. We will hold a question and
answer session with selected participants, students of our university, about their
opinion on this topic. If the result is as expected by the researchers, we will organize
an “open-air cinema” at the university. Most of the students enter universities with
primary level English language skills like poor comprehension, limited vocabulary,
slow reading, grammatical mistakes and lack of fluency in conversational skills.
Watching movies can be helpful for all these skills (Qiu, 2017). Movies, serials and
series use language extensively including cultural aspects (Sabouri & Zohrabi, 2015).
In order to provide quality education teachers have to use quality teaching materials
that will be engaging, interesting and up-to-date to help the students learn efficiently.
These are also pre-requisite to increase proficiency in language skills (Ismaili, 2013).

English

Watching movies is one of the audio-visual resources that helps students learn

English more successfully. Even when students are not consciously studying while

vocabulary as well as speaking, listening, and other skills. Using movies as learning
resources could make the idea of joyful learning extremely applicable. Movies could
be shown in the classroom as a hands-on teaching tool for English listening and
speaking. Additionally, the more we incorporate technology into the classroom, the
more aspects of the teaching and learning process will be involved. This will encourage
a learner-friendly environment in the classroom.
