The digital transformation of early childhood education has significantly impacted
the learning process, offering both opportunities and challenges. The integration of digital
technologies enhances learning experiences, increases access to resources, and prepares young
children for a digital future. This article explores the benefits and challenges of digital technologies
in preschool education, including the potential role of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and
data-driven learning.

Introduction:
Digital transformation in education is not just about implementing new
technologies into the learning process but also about a deep reform in the approaches to teaching
and nurturing children. In early childhood education, which serves as the foundation for skill
development, the integration of technology plays a particularly important role. The application of
digital tools opens new horizons for children's development, helps create a more accessible and
diverse educational environment, but it also presents certain risks.
The importance of digitalization in early childhood education is increasing in light of the
rapid development of technology. According to UNESCO (2020), the use of technologies in early
childhood learning can stimulate cognitive development and foster critical thinking. However, it
is important that technologies are used in a balanced way, considering the age-related
characteristics and pedagogical approaches.
The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of digital technologies on early childhood
education, highlight the main advantages and challenges, and present predictions for the future
development of technologies in this field digital technologies offer a wide range of tools for
educating children. For example, tablets and interactive whiteboards allow educators to create
engaging and educational tasks that motivate children to learn. The use of educational apps helps
children develop cognitive and language skillResearch conducted in the United Kingdom in 2019
showed that the use of interactive whiteboards in preschools increased children's engagement and
improved their problem-solving abilities.
In 2020, the educational platform for preschool children, "Khan Academy Kids," attracted
over 20 million users worldwide, confirming the high interest in digital educational resources
among parentsVirtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are also beginning to be used in
early childhood education. For example, kindergartens are using VR headsets to conduct virtual
field trips, allowing children to "visit" museums, historical sites, and even other countries without
leaving the classroom. This is especially important for children living in rural and remote areas,
where access to cultural institutions is limited.
Digital technologies not only serve as tools for learning but also actively contribute to the
development of social skills. The use of online games and collaborative projects helps children
learn to work in teams, solve common tasks, and build communication with other children.
According to a study conducted in the United States in 2021, children who participated in
collaborative online projects showed a higher level of social activity and communication skills
compared to those who learned without using digital tools.
The digital divide remains one of the key challenges that educational institutions face. Not
all children have equal access to modern technologies, which may lead to educational inequality.

According to a study by the World Bank (2021), more than 40% of children in
low- and middle-income countries do not have access to digital devices, which limits their
opportunities for full-fledged learni in Russia, according to Rosstat data (2020), 25% of families
with preschool-age children do not have permanent access to the internet, creating significant
barriers to the use of online education and educational apps.
Addressing this problem requires ensuring equal access to digital resources for all segments
of the population. This includes both government initiatives to subsidize devices and public
initiatives aimed at providing free internet and training.Excessive screen time can have negative
effects on children's health. The World Health Organization (WHO) studies emphasize that
prolonged use of technology can lead to vision problems, sleep disorders, and a decrease in
physical activity.
According to a study published in the
JAMA Pediatrics
journal in 2020, children who spent
more than 2 hours a day on screens showed lower results in attention and memory tests.WHO
recommends limiting screen time for children under 5 years old to one hour per day. This highlights
the importance of a balanced approach to the implementation of digital technologies in early
childhood education, where digital devices should be used in moderation and always combined
with physical activity. For the effective use of digital technologies in early childhood education,
educators must be properly trained. This includes not only technical skills in using devices but also
knowledge of methods for using technology to foster children's development.A 2022 study in
Germany found that 60% of preschool educators reported a lack of knowledge and skills to
effectively use digital technologies in teaching. In Russia, the Ministry of Education and Science
launched a professional development program for educators in the field of digital technologies in
2021, but only 15% of educators completed the necessary training.
In the future, artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to become an integral part of early
childhood education. AI can analyze children's behavior and select individualized tasks based on
their developmental level and preferences.
The application of AI in education helps tailor materials to each child, as evidenced by
successful AI-based platforms in educational institutions in Finland and Singapore.
Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) offer new ways to engage children in the
learning process. These technologies allow educators to create interactive learning environments
in which children can "immerse" themselves in the material, exploring nature, history, and other
subjects through visual and auditory stimuli. In the coming years, the use of VR and AR in early
childhood education is expected to increase, allowing children to develop spatial imagination and
enhance their interest in academic subjects.
Conclusion:
Digital transformation in early childhood education provides unique
opportunities for children's development, improving the quality of education and creating an
inclusive learning environment. However, the implementation of technology must be balanced,
taking into account not only the benefits but also the challenges, such as the digital divide and the
impact of screen time on children's health. For successful use of technologies, it is necessary not
only to improve infrastructure and access to devices but also to train educators and create safe and
healthy conditions for children. In the future, with the development of artificial intelligence, virtual
reality, and other technologies, the opportunities for teaching and developing children will only
expand.
