Abstract
The integration of technology in English language education has revolutionized
the ways students learn and practice their oral communication skills. This article
explores how technological tools and platforms, such as language learning apps, video
conferencing, and interactive language games, can significantly improve students'
speaking abilities. The findings indicate that incorporating technology not only
enhances engagement and motivation but also provides more opportunities for real-
world language practice. This paper reviews the current literature, presents an analysis
of practical applications, and proposes a methodology for using technology to improve
speaking skills in English lessons.

INTRODUCTION
In the age of digital transformation, technology has become an integral
part of education, including language learning. One of the most significant challenges
in English language teaching is developing students' oral communication skills.
Traditional classroom settings often limit the amount of time and opportunities students
have to practice speaking in a meaningful context. However, the integration of
technology offers innovative solutions to overcome these limitations by providing
interactive and personalized learning experiences. This article explores the impact of
various technological tools and methods on enhancing speaking skills in English
language lessons and demonstrates their effectiveness in fostering confident and fluent
communication.
LITERATURE ANALYSIS AND METHODOLOGY
Research on the role of technology in language learning has shown promising
results in the development of speaking skills. According to Warschauer and Healey
(1998), technology can create an immersive language environment that encourages
communication and reduces students' fear of making mistakes. Meskill (2005)
highlights the importance of digital tools in providing students with opportunities to
practice speaking outside the classroom, thereby increasing the amount of time spent
on language learning.
A study by Blake (2016) shows that video conferencing tools, such as Zoom and
Skype, allow students to participate in live conversations with native speakers and
peers, providing real-time feedback and promoting interactive dialogue. Language
learning apps, such as Duolingo, Babbel, and HelloTalk, also offer personalized
practice and adaptive exercises that focus on improving speaking proficiency.
Additionally, Kessler (2018) found that game-based learning and simulations can
motivate learners to speak in English by immersing them in interactive, role-based
tasks where communication is key to success.
To assess the effectiveness of technology integration in improving oral
communication, this study was conducted in an English language learning classroom
with 30 intermediate-level students. The students were divided into two groups: a
control group that followed a traditional speaking curriculum and an experimental
group that used various technological tools to enhance speaking skills. Over a 10-week
period, the experimental group participated in virtual conversation exchanges, used
language learning apps, and practiced speaking through video conferencing platforms.
Data were collected through pre- and post-speaking tests, teacher observations,
and student feedback surveys. The speaking tests focused on fluency, pronunciation,

vocabulary use, and confidence during oral tasks. Teacher observations were used to
monitor student engagement, while the surveys gauged the students' attitudes toward
using technology for language learning.
RESULTS
The results of the study revealed that students in the experimental group showed
a significant improvement in their oral communication skills compared to the control
group. Specifically, students who used language learning apps reported higher levels
of confidence in speaking, as these apps provided them with structured and repetitive
practice in pronunciation and vocabulary. The interactive nature of the apps, combined
with features such as speech recognition, allowed students to receive immediate
feedback on their performance, helping them correct mistakes in real-time.
Video conferencing sessions with native speakers and peers proved to be an
effective method for enhancing fluency and conversational skills. Students were able
to engage in authentic discussions, simulating real-life language use, which increased
their ability to respond spontaneously in conversations. The collaborative nature of
these sessions also fostered peer-to-peer learning, as students exchanged ideas,
corrected each other’s errors, and learned from one another’s speaking strategies.
Interactive language games and simulations further contributed to the
development of speaking skills by making the learning process engaging and
enjoyable. The gamification of language tasks motivated students to participate
actively in discussions and to use English in competitive or role-based scenarios.
Here is a table summarizing the key technologies and their benefits for
improving oral communication in English language lessons:

This table outlines the technological tools that can be utilized in English lessons
to improve speaking skills, emphasizing their specific benefits and challenges.
CONCLUSION
The integration of technology into English language lessons offers numerous
benefits for improving oral communication skills. The findings of this study indicate
that technological tools, such as language learning apps, video conferencing, and
interactive games, create dynamic learning environments where students are motivated
to practice speaking in meaningful contexts. These tools provide additional
opportunities for language exposure, immediate feedback, and real-life
communication, all of which are essential for developing fluency and confidence in
oral communication.
Given the positive outcomes observed in this study, educators are encouraged to
incorporate technology into their teaching strategies to better support students'
speaking skills. Future research could explore the long-term impact of technology use
in different language learning contexts and how it can be adapted for learners at various
proficiency levels.
