METHOD

To investigate the reader responses to the theme of

infidelity in "Ajo Obi," a reader response approach was

employed. This approach recognizes that readers bring

their own backgrounds, experiences, and values to the

reading process, which influence their interpretation

and emotional engagement with the text. The study

utilized

a

mixed-methods

research

design,

incorporating both surveys and interviews to gather

data from a diverse group of readers.

The

survey

component

involved

distributing

questionnaires to a sample of readers who had

recently read "Ajo Obi." The questionnaires included

prompts and open-ended questions to elicit

respondents' thoughts, emotions, and interpretations

specifically related to the theme of infidelity in the

novel. The survey responses were analyzed

quantitatively to identify common themes and

patterns in readers' interpretations and emotional

reactions.

In addition to the surveys, a subset of participants was

selected for in-depth interviews. The interviews

provided an opportunity to delve deeper into the

readers' perspectives, allowing for a more nuanced

exploration of their thoughts, emotions, and personal

connections to the theme of infidelity in "Ajo Obi." The

interviews were conducted in a semi-structured

format, allowing for flexibility and follow-up probing to

gain a comprehensive understanding of each

participant's reading experience.

The collected data from both the surveys and

interviews were subjected to qualitative analysis.

Through thematic analysis, recurring themes,

divergent viewpoints, and emotional responses were

identified, enabling a comprehensive exploration of

the multifaceted interpretations of infidelity in "Ajo

Obi." The findings of the analysis will be discussed in

the subsequent sections, shedding light on the

different ways in which readers engage with and make

meaning of the theme of infidelity in the novel.

By adopting a reader response approach, this study

seeks to illuminate the subjective nature of reading

experiences and offer valuable insights into the diverse

interpretations and emotional reactions evoked by the

theme of infidelity in "Ajo Obi." The integration of

connections. The survey data indicated that a majority

of respondents acknowledged the presence of

infidelity as a central theme in the novel. However, the

interpretations of the implications and significance of

infidelity varied significantly among readers.

Some readers viewed infidelity as a catalyst for

character development and plot progression,

highlighting the complexity of human relationships

and the consequences of betraying trust. Others

focused on the emotional turmoil experienced by the

characters involved in the acts of infidelity,

empathizing with their struggles and exploring themes

of guilt, remorse, and forgiveness.

The interviews provided deeper insights into readers'

perspectives. Several participants shared personal

anecdotes and reflections, relating the theme of

infidelity to their own experiences or those of people

they knew. This emotional resonance enhanced their

engagement with the novel and influenced their

interpretation of the theme.

DISCUSSION

The diverse interpretations and emotional reactions to

the theme of infidelity in "Ajo Obi" demonstrate the

power of reader response in shaping the

understanding and meaning of a literary work. The

reader response approach allows for a more nuanced

exploration of the theme, as readers bring their own

perspectives, values, and life experiences to the

interpretation process.

The variations in readers' interpretations of infidelity

reflect the complexities of human relationships and the

subjective nature of moral judgments. Some readers

empathize with the characters involved in infidelity,

recognizing the flaws and complexities of human

nature. Others may hold more stringent views,

condemning the actions of the characters and

emphasizing the importance of trust and loyalty.

The personal connections shared by readers further

highlight the emotional impact of the theme. Readers

draw parallels between the fictional world of "Ajo Obi"

and their own lived experiences, fostering a deeper

engagement with the narrative. This emotional

resonance enhances the readers' connection to the

characters and their struggles, making the exploration

of infidelity more meaningful and thought-provoking.

CONCLUSION

This study employed a reader response approach to

explore the theme of infidelity in "Ajo Obi." The

analysis of survey data and interviews provided

valuable insights into the diverse interpretations and

emotional responses evoked by the theme among

readers. The findings highlight the subjective nature of

reading experiences and the complex interplay
