This article provides necessary information about the population growth, migration, birth and death rates of

Surkhandarya in recent years.

INTRODUCTION

Surkhandarya region is a region within the Republic of

Uzbekistan. It was established on March 6, 1941 (from

June 29, 1925 it became Surkhandarya district). It was

merged with Kashkadarya region on January 25, 1960.

It was reorganized in February 1964. It is located in the

south-east of the republic, in the Surkhan-Sherabad

valley. The name of the region comes from the name of

the Surkhan (Persian-Tajik: "red") river that flows

through the oasis. It borders Afghanistan along the

Amudarya river in the south, Tajikistan in the north,

northeast and east, Turkmenistan in the southwest,

and Kashkadarya region in the northwest. The area is

20.1 thousand km². The population is 2612.4 thousand

people (as of October 1, 2019). It consists of 14 districts

(Angor, Bandikhon, Boysun, Denov, Jarkurgan,

Muzrabot, Altinsoy, Sariosiya, Termiz, Uzun, Sherabad,

Shorchi, Kyziriq, Kumkurgan), 8 cities (Boysun, Denov,

Jarkurgan, Termiz, Shargun, Sherabad, Shorchi,

Kumkurgan), there are 114 towns, 865 rural

settlements (2020). The center is the city of Termiz.

The population is mainly Uzbeks (78%), as well as

representatives of Tajik, Russian, Turkmen, Kazakh and

other nationalities (2004). The average population

density is 130.0 people per 1 km². The urban population

is 923.4 thousand people, the rural population is 1689.0

thousand people (2019).

Permanent population. As of January 1, 2021, the

number of permanent residents of Surkhandarya

region was 2,681,000 people, and in January-December

2019, it increased by 51,800 people or 1.9%. In particular,

the number of urban residents was 971.4 thousand

people (the share of the total population was 36.2%),

the number of rural residents was 1709.6 thousand

people (63.8%)

Analysis of the regions of Surkhandarya region shows

that as of January 1, 2021, the largest population is

Denov district with 392.3 thousand people (14.6% of the

population of the region) and Kumkurgan with 238.7

on the other hand, the smallest population was 77,000

people (2.9%) in Bandikhon district.

Analysis of the regions of Surkhandarya region shows

that as of January 1, 2021, the largest population is

Denov district with 392.3 thousand people (14.6% of the

population of the region) and Kumkurgan with 238.7

1,000 people (8.9%), Zharkurgan 222,100 people (8.3%),

on the other hand, Bandikhon district had the lowest

population of 76,500 people (2.9%). In terms of regions,

the highest growth rate of the population compared to

the corresponding period of 2019 was the city of

Termiz - 1.8%, Denov district - 2.0%, and Sarysia - 1.8%, on

the contrary, the lowest growth rate was Kyzyriq in the

district was -1.6%.

Birth. In January-December 2020, 74,600 children were

born (only live births are taken into account for those

born here and after), respectively, the birth rate is 28.1

per 1,000 population. per thousand and increased by

0.1 per thousand compared to the corresponding

period of 2019 (in January-June 2019 it was 28.0 per

thousand). Birth rate. Including compared to the

corresponding period of 2019. It was observed in the

city of Termiz (from 30.6 per thousand to 22.6 per

thousand), Oltinsoy (from 28.8 per thousand to 28.0

per thousand).

Those who died. In January-December 2020, 11,900

deaths were recorded, respectively, the death rate per

1,000 inhabitants was 4.5 per thousand, which

decreased by 0.4 per thousand compared to the

corresponding period of 2019 (2019- it was 4.1 per

thousand in January-December of the year). Mortality

rate. The increase compared to the corresponding

period of 2019. (from 5.5 ppm to 3.6 ppm), Denov

(from 4.5 ppm to 4.0 ppm), Angor (from 4.8 ppm to 4.5

ppm), Jarkurgan (from 4.9 ppm to 4.4 ppm) was

observed in the districts.

In January-December 2020, 11,900 deaths were

recorded, 62.3% of those who died were from diseases

of the circulatory system, 5.9% from tumors, 4.0% from

accidents, poisoning and injuries, 4.5% died from

digestive diseases, 7.4% from respiratory diseases, 1.5%

from infectious and parasitic diseases and 14.4% from

other diseases. The registered number of children who

died under 1 year is 0.6 thousand, 58.1% of them are due

to perinatal conditions, 22.3% are from respiratory

diseases, 14.0% are congenital. from anomalies and 5.6%

died from other diseases.

Natural growth. In January-December 2020, the natural

population growth reached 62.7 thousand people (in

January-December 2019, 62.1

Married people. In January-December 2020, 24,800

marriages were registered by the registry office,

correspondingly, the marriage rate per 1,000

inhabitants was 9.3 per thousand. Number of married

people. Compared to the corresponding period of

2019, Denov (441), Kumkurgan (508), Zharkurgan

(456), and Termiz district (446) showed a decrease.

Divorce. In January-December 2020, 1,600 divorces

were registered by the registry office, and the ratio

was 0.6 per thousand per 1,000 inhabitants. Number of

divorces. Compared to the corresponding period of

2019, high rates of decrease are recorded in

Zhargorgon (45), Denov (78), Termiz city (10), Uzun

(43).

Migration. In January-December 2020, the number of

people who moved to the region was 8.5 thousand,

and the number of people who left was 19.4 thousand.

The migration balance was minus 10.9 thousand

people, compared to minus 2.9 thousand people in the

corresponding period of 2019. A high level of migration

balance was recorded in Denov district (minus 1.6

thousand people), Uzun district (minus 1.6 thousand

people), Sariosia (minus 1.2 thousand people),

Zharkurgan (minus 1.0 thousand people) done.
