MODERN TREATMENT OF PSORIASIS.

Relevance.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the skin and sometimes the

joints (psoriatic arthritis). According to WHO, psoriasis affects 2 to 3% of the world's population.

Modern research indicates its autoimmune nature, involving cytokines (TNF-α, IL-17, IL-23, etc.)

in the inflammatory process. In recent years, psoriasis therapy has undergone significant changes,

especially due to the development of targeted biological drugs and new synthetic agents (e.g.,

JAK inhibitors), which makes the topic of modern psoriasis treatment extremely relevant [1,2].

Objective.

The main objective is to analyze the latest advances in psoriasis treatment, paying

special attention to biological drugs, new oral agents and combination approaches, and to

evaluate their effectiveness, safety and impact on the quality of life of patients.

Methods.

Scientific literature review: systematic review of peer-reviewed articles, meta-analyses,

and clinical trial results published over the past 5-7 years.

International guideline review: comparison of recommendations from different dermatological

associations (e.g., AAD, EADV) to identify common trends and inconsistencies [3]. Patient data

collection: review of real-world cases and registries to assess long-term efficacy, side effects,

and patient compliance.

Results.

High efficacy of biologics: targeted therapy (TNF-α, IL-17, IL-23 inhibitors) shows

high skin clearance (PASI 75–100) and improved quality of life.

New oral agents: JAK inhibitors and other small molecules offer alternative options for patients

who are unsuitable for or have no access to biologic therapy.

Improved long-term outcomes: modern treatment regimens achieve sustained remission and

reduce the risk of systemic complications.

Limitations: Despite the successes, there are still problems related to the availability of therapy

(high cost, need for regular monitoring), as well as individual variability in the response to

treatment.

Conclusions.

The modern approach to psoriasis therapy has significantly expanded due to the

development of targeted biological agents and innovative oral drugs [4]. The use of these

methods in combination with comprehensive patient management (lifestyle, psychological

support, control of comorbidities) allows not only to achieve a significant improvement in the

skin condition, but also to improve the overall quality of life. However, despite the progress, it is

important to continue research in the field of safety, availability and cost-effectiveness of therapy,

as well as to develop a personalized approach that takes into account the individual

characteristics of patients.
