This ambitious competition saw the submission of
numerous sketches and proposals from some of

Uzbekistan’s most talented artists. After thorough

deliberation, the commission, comprising members of
the Legislative Chamber and a panel of experts,
unanimously chose the work of the celebrated
monumental artist Oybek Islamov. His proposal stood
out for its exceptional artistic merit, historical depth,

and ability to convey the nation’s story with profound

emotional resonance.

The Artistic Journey: From Vision to Reality

Aibek Islamov’s winning painting, an impressive

240x740 cm composition rendered on canvas, is
nothing short of a visual epic. Titled New Uzbekistan, it
portrays a sweeping narrative that bridges t

he nation’s

storied past with its dynamic present. Through this
monumental work, Islamov masterfully conveys the
spirit of transformation and renewal that defines the
modern era of Uzbekistan.

The painting offers a rich and complex tapestry of
historical and cultural motifs. At its heart, it features
portraits of legendary figures such as Amir Temur, the
celebrated military strategist and ruler; Mirzo Ulugbek,
the renowned astronomer and mathematician; and
Gonzalez de Clavijo, the Spanish ambassador who
chronicled his travels to the Timurid court. Alongside
these luminaries, Islamov includes depictions of poets,
scientists, and other cultural icons, all of whom have

left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.

Each figure is rendered with meticulous attention to
detail, their expressions imbued with psychological
depth and character. The viewer is invited to engage
with their stories, to imagine the challenges they faced
and the achievements that defined their lives. This
combination of technical mastery and emotional

storytelling is what makes Islamov’s work so

compelling.

A Symphony of Composition and Symbolism

Beyond the portraits, New Uzbekistan is a study in
compositional brilliance. Islamov employs a dynamic
and intricate arrangement of elements to guide the

viewer’s eye through the painting’s narrative.

Historical scenes are seamlessly juxtaposed with
representations of modern life, symbolizing the

continuum of progress that defines the nation’s

identity.

The color palette, a harmonious blend of warm and
cool tones, reflects the duality of tradition and
innovation. Rich, earthy hues evoke the timelessness

of Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage, while vibrant,

contemporary shades signify its bright and ambitious
future. The interplay of light and shadow adds a sense
of depth and drama, inviting the viewer to linger and
explore the myriad details hidden within the
composition.

Stirring Patriotism Through Art

One of the painting’s most remarkable achievements is

its ability to evoke a deep sense of national pride. By

celebrating the achievements of Uzbekistan’s

historical figures and weaving them into the fabric of
its modern narrative, Islamov has created a work that
resonates deeply with audiences. It is a powerful
reminder of the strength of the national spirit and the

values that have shaped Uzbekistan’s journey through

time.

The leadership of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy
Majlis recognized this emotional power, describing the

painting as a “convincing demonstration of the

strength of the national spirit, capable of awakening

high patriotic feelings in hearts.” It is not merely a

decoration for the Chamber’s foyer but a symbol of

unity and shared purpose, reflecting the aspirations of
a nation striving toward progress while honoring its
rich cultural heritage.

Gratitude and Recognition

In acknowledging Oybek Islamov’s extraordinary

achievement, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis
expressed sincere gratitude for his dedication and
artistic vision. His ability to translate the essence of
New Uzbekistan into a monumental work of art is a
testament to his skill, passion, and deep connection to
his homeland.

This project, as grand as it is meaningful, serves as a
reminder of the transformative power of art. Through
his creation, Islamov has not only enriched the cultural
landscape of Uzbekistan but also inspired a renewed

appreciation for the nation’s history and its boundless

potential.

A Future of Artistic Excellence

As Uzbekistan continues to embrace its path of
renewal and development, artists like Aibek Islamov

play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s identity. With

New Uzbekistan, Islamov has set a new benchmark for
monumental art, blending historical authenticity with
contemporary relevance.

The leadership of the Legislative Chamber wishes him
continued success in his artistic journey, confident that

his future works will further enrich Uzbekistan’s

cultural heritage. New Uzbekistan is more than a
painting

—it is a celebration of a nation’s heart and

soul, captured on canvas for generations to come.
