Abstract: This article explores the importance of reading as a tool for

understanding and analysing global problems such as climate change, poverty,

inequality, and international conflict. It highlights how reading various sources

develops critical thinking, empathy, and global awareness. The article also discusses

the role of reading in education and how it prepares students to be informed global

citizens.

In today’s interconnected world, global problems such as climate change, poverty,

inequality, pandemics, and conflict are affecting people across all nations.

Understanding these issues is essential for finding sustainable solutions, and one of

the most effective ways to gain knowledge about them is through reading.

The Power of Reading

Reading opens the door to the world. It allows

individuals to access information, perspectives, and experiences from different

cultures and contexts. Books, newspapers, academic articles, and online platforms

provide a wide range of sources that explain the causes, consequences, and possible

solutions to global problems.

For example, reading scientific reports about climate change helps people

understand how human activities are affecting the environment. Similarly, reading

personal stories of refugees or people living in poverty creates empathy and raises

awareness of social justice issues.

Reading not only provides information but also helps develop critical thinking

skills. By comparing different authors’ viewpoints and examining data, readers learn

to analyse the complexity of global problems. They can identify biased information,

evaluate

sources,

and

form

their

own

opinions.

For instance, when reading about international conflicts, a reader can explore the

historical background, political motives, and humanitarian impacts from multiple

perspectives. This deeper understanding is crucial for students, educators, and

policymakers who wish to contribute to solving these problems.

Role in Education

In modern education, reading about global problems is essential. It prepares

students to become global citizens who are aware of international issues and

motivated to act. Many school and university curricula include texts about human

rights,

environmental

issues,

and

global

cooperation.

Moreover, reading in English gives students access to a larger collection of

international resources. This improves their language skills while also broadening

their worldview.

Conclusion

In conclusion, reading is a powerful tool for understanding and

analysing global problems. It helps people become informed, empathetic, and critical

thinkers. By encouraging regular reading, especially in educational settings, we can

build a generation that is prepared to face and solve the world’s most serious

challenges.
