Key words:
Artificial Intelligence (AI), advantages and disadvantages, ability to give an
effective feedback, main points.
Introduction.
The following research paper represents an investigation of the modern advances in the
field of artificial intelligence. From the beginning of computers' invention, people starts tying
to create perfect machines that could replace human beings in every aspect of life. Invention of
complex robots which could avoid human interference, promote scientists light up with idea of
machines which can make decisions, plan schedules an even set goals for people. Many
governments such as United States, South Korea, China, Japan and Western countries have
funded research projects with billions of dollars in the field of artificial intelligence. Scientists
all over the world were willing to create a program, which gives the basic information of the
artificial intelligence, and the advancements made in the field.
The artificial intelligence has go to the new heights today. From 2016, we have seen great
deal of improvements in artificial intelligence. Online advertising, aviation, driving, image and
speech recognition, among other fields are currently using AI technologies. This knowledge
helps to identify and appreciates the efforts that have been made by researchers and scientists
in the growth of technology. Entrepreneurs, industrialists, and innovators are all relying on the
advances made in the field of AI to make better products, systems or procedures that are
helping to improve the live on the planet. Great numbers of AI fans believe that in a upcomming
decades, machines will supersede human beings in their intelligence.
An examination of the recent trends it is possible to reach those heights. For instance, last
year, 2016, a machine, Alpha-Go was the first machine to defeat professional players like the
Korean grandmaster Lee Sedol and the world champion, Ke Jie from China in the board game.
However, even with these facts, the technologies are mainly limited to the specified
applications. AI is expected to mimic human cognition by 2050, in the abilities to dream, feel
emotions, think or have goals. Therefore, it is important to assess the progress not only in the
technological viewpoint but also in other perspectives such as legal, social and ethical.

One of the most significant advantages of artificial intelligence in education is the ability
to provide personalized learning experiences through data-driven insights. AI algorithms can
analyze individual student data, including learning pace, strengths, and weaknesses, to tailor
educational content and activities. This ensures that each student receives a customized
learning experience that maximizes their potential.

AI provides students with constant access to assistance whenever they need it, wherever
they are. AI systems are available 24/7, offering personalized help with homework, explaining
difficult concepts, and answering questions. This round-the-clock support ensures that
students can learn at their own pace, and frees up the teachers' already limited time.
AI systems can provide real-time feedback on student performance, allowing for
immediate correction and reinforcement of concepts. This continuous assessment helps
students understand their mistakes and learn from them quickly, improving their overall
performance and retention of information.
Integrating AI into educational curricula presents a dual opportunity: it allows for
teaching both with and about AI. Students gain essential skills in navigating and understanding
AI technologies, preparing them for future careers in a rapidly evolving job market.
Additionally, incorporating AI tools into the learning process enhances the educational
experience, making it more interactive and efficient. This integration equips students with the
knowledge and discernment needed to thrive in a tech-driven world, ensuring they are not only
consumers of AI but also informed creators and users.
An over-reliance on AI can be detrimental. Technical failures or malfunctions can disrupt
the learning process, and excessive dependence on technology may lead to a decrease in critical
thinking and problem-solving skills. It is essential to strike a balance between using AI as a tool
and maintaining traditional educational methods.
AI in education can reduce the amount of human interaction, which is vital for social and
emotional development. Teacher-student relationships play a crucial role in learning, providing
motivation, support, and mentorship. Over-reliance on AI can diminish these interactions,
potentially impacting the overall educational experience.
One of the most discussed disadvantages of artificial education in education is the new
opportunities for cheating it has introduced. It has become a real issue where students use AI
tools to generate work that appears original.
Successfully implementing AI in an educational setting will require strategic planning and
a focus on several key areas:
1.
Infrastructure and investment:
Ensure adequate infrastructure and investment in
technology to support AI initiatives.
2.
Training and development:
Provide comprehensive training for educators to effectively
use AI tools and integrate them into their teaching methods.
3.
Ethical considerations:
Develop clear policies to address ethical concerns, such as data
privacy and bias.
4.
Inclusive access:
Ensure that AI technologies are accessible to all students, including
those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
5.
Continuous evaluation:
Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of AI tools and make
necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
One fascinating study from the University of California which has only just been released
sheds some light on the effectiveness of AI in educational settings. The study investigated how
well generative AI, specifically ChatGPT, can provide formative feedback on secondary student
essays compared to human evaluators. The research aimed to determine if AI could deliver
quality feedback that supports writing development, potentially easing the workload for
teachers.

In the study, 200 pieces of human-generated feedback and 200 pieces of AI-generated
feedback were scored across five criteria:
Criteria base
– This category assesses how well the feedback explicitly references the
criteria for source-based argumentative writing in History. It evaluates whether the feedback
helps students understand the standards for successful writing in the genre.
Clear directions for improvement
– This category measures the clarity and
actionability of the feedback. It looks at whether the feedback provides clear guidance on how
to improve specific aspects of the writing.
Accuracy
– This category evaluates the correctness of the feedback. It assesses whether
the feedback accurately identifies and addresses the areas that need improvement in the
student’s writing.
Prioritisation of essential features
– This category examines whether the feedback
focuses on essential and attainable aspects of writing that are reasonable for the student to
work on next. It ensures that the feedback is manageable and relevant to the student’s current
writing ability.
Supportive tone
– This category assesses the tone of the feedback. It looks at whether
the feedback is affirming, supportive and uses language that encourages the student to make
improvements.
The results revealed that well-trained human evaluators provided higher quality
feedback than ChatGPT, outperforming it in 4 out of the 5 categories. The exception was the
criteria-based category, where ChatGPT slightly outperformed humans, but as you can see in
the table below, the results were much closer than you may expect.
