Introduction.
The modern world is characterized by rapid development, technological
advancements, and globalization processes. However, these changes also bring new ethical
challenges to humanity. From this perspective, the role of Islamic ethical values in modern
society is becoming increasingly significant. Islam promotes moral purity, justice, compassion,
and honesty in all aspects of human life.
Fundamental Principles of Islamic Ethical Values
1. Justice and Honesty
Justice is one of the core ethical values in Islam. To build a just society, every individual
must adhere to honesty and treat others with fairness. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be
upon him) emphasized justice and honesty throughout his life. The Quran contains numerous
verses encouraging people to uphold justice.
The concept of justice in Islam is comprehensive and extends beyond personal life to
include social, economic, and political aspects. Justice plays a crucial role in interpersonal
relationships. If a society is not based on justice, it may face instability, conflicts, and
corruption. To establish a just society, equality and fairness among individuals must be
ensured.
Honesty reflects inner purity and a conscientious life. Leading a life of honesty and
earning a livelihood through lawful means are among the greatest virtues in Islam. Honesty is
not only related to financial matters but also to truthfulness in all aspects of life. It includes
earning through lawful means, avoiding deceit, and being truthful.
According to Islamic teachings, an individual must earn a livelihood through honest
labor. The Quran states: "Man will have nothing except what he strives for" (Surah An-Najm,
39). This verse emphasizes that each person must earn their sustenance through lawful work
without infringing on the rights of others.
Justice and honesty are vital not only in personal life but also in governance and societal
progress. A state that does not adhere to principles of justice risks corruption, injustice, and

societal disintegration. Therefore, justice and honesty are given significant emphasis in
governance based on Islamic values.
Economic life also relies on justice and honesty as fundamental principles. Integrity in
trade and business is crucial. Islamic law strictly prohibits lying, deception, and fraud in
commerce. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever lies in trade is not
one of us." This hadith underscores the necessity of conducting business with integrity and
fairness.
The absence of justice and honesty in modern society leads to numerous social
problems, including corruption, financial fraud, and inequality. If every individual adheres to
justice and honesty, society will become more stable and progressive.
Moreover, justice and honesty are essential in family relationships. Living a truthful life
within the family, mutual respect, and honesty in interactions contribute to a strong family
foundation. Parents must instill honesty in their children, as it is one of the most important
ethical values passed down through generations.
Additionally, Islamic teachings stress the importance of justice in the judicial system.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) never tolerated injustice and always defended
the truth. He said: "The worst thing is to pass an unjust judgment." This serves as a reminder
for everyone, especially those working in the legal system, to uphold justice.
2. Compassion and Tolerance
In an era where conflicts and disputes are increasing, compassion and tolerance emerge
as crucial values. Islam calls on people to be kind to one another and to respect the rights of
others. Tolerance applies not only among Muslims but also towards followers of other
religions.
Compassion is a fundamental element of human relationships and plays a significant
role in strengthening interpersonal bonds at family, social, and governmental levels. The
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) exemplified the highest levels of kindness and
tolerance. He said: "Whoever is kind to people, Allah will be kind to him." This hadith
highlights the importance of compassion in human life.
Compassion plays a crucial role in family relationships. Children must respect their
parents, and parents must raise their children with love and care. A loving family
environment contributes to the stability of society. Additionally, showing kindness and
sincerity towards neighbors and community members is a core aspect of Islamic ethics.
Tolerance entails treating others with respect, recognizing freedom of thought and
belief, and exercising patience and understanding towards people of different races and
religions. The Quran states: "There is no compulsion in religion" (Surah Al-Baqarah, 256). This
verse highlights the importance of respecting religious diversity.
Islam promotes peaceful coexistence among different nations and religious groups.
Historically, Islamic societies have demonstrated high levels of tolerance towards non-
Muslims. For example, during the Andalusian and Ottoman periods, Jews and Christians were
allowed to practice their faith freely.
Even in modern society, tolerance and compassion remain crucial. People from diverse
cultural and religious backgrounds must live in harmony and cooperation. In today’s

globalized world, respect and tolerance among nations and communities are key to ensuring
peace and stability.
Compassion and tolerance are also essential in professional and business environments.
Individuals must be kind and considerate towards their colleagues and clients. Leaders and
government officials should treat their citizens with justice and fairness.
Moreover, compassion and tolerance strengthen social unity. Helping the elderly,
orphans, and those in need is considered a noble virtue in Islam. The Quran states: "Do not
oppress the orphan, and do not drive away the needy" (Surah Ad-Duha, 9-10). These verses
encourage Muslims to be compassionate.
3. Respect for Parents and Family Stability
Respecting parents is one of the highest virtues emphasized in Islam. The Quran states:
"Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him and that you be kind to parents"
(Surah Al-Isra, 23). This verse illustrates that honoring parents is a fundamental duty of every
Muslim.
Respecting parents means valuing their upbringing, treating them with kindness,
seeking their blessings, and serving them with patience, especially in their old age. Providing
for their needs and showing them affection is an essential responsibility.
Family stability is another crucial aspect of Islamic ethical values. The family is the
foundation of society, and its strength directly impacts social stability. The Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The best of you are those who are best to their
families." This hadith emphasizes the importance of love, respect, and patience in family
relationships.
A stable family is built on mutual respect, understanding, and shared responsibility
between spouses and children. A household where love, trust, and patience prevail is more
likely to remain strong.
Raising children with good morals and manners is an essential duty of parents. The
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Treat your children with respect and teach
them good manners." This highlights the responsibility of parents to nurture their children
with ethical and moral values.
In modern society, respecting parents and ensuring family stability remain highly
significant. While Western cultures emphasize individualism, often weakening family bonds,
Islam upholds the sanctity of family and the importance of parental respect.
4. Diligence and Sense of Responsibility
Diligence and a sense of responsibility are fundamental aspects of Islamic ethical values.
The Quran states: "Man will have nothing except what he strives for" (Surah An-Najm, 39).
This verse highlights the necessity of effort, hard work, and earning the results of one’s labor.
Diligence strengthens an individual’s position in society and serves as a key factor in
achieving success and progress. Islam honors lawful labor and condemns laziness. The
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The best food a person can eat is what he has
earned through his own labor." This hadith emphasizes the importance of valuing work and
earning a lawful livelihood.

In modern society, diligence is crucial for economic growth and social stability. If
individuals perform their work sincerely, society prospers, businesses grow, and the nation
flourishes. Conversely, laziness and negligence can lead to societal decline.
Conclusion
Islamic ethical values play an essential role in shaping a just and stable society. Justice,
honesty, compassion, tolerance, respect for parents, and diligence are key principles that
contribute to both individual success and societal progress. By adhering to these values,
individuals can foster peace, fairness, and harmony in their communities, ensuring a
prosperous and morally upright society.
