Abstract:
This article is focused on analyzing the contemporary social and
ethical issues related to the harmonization of human dignity and beauty. It
provides a deep analysis of the relationship between beauty and values, the
ethical responsibility of external appearance, and social pressures. The impact of
media and social networks on beauty standards, cosmetic surgery, and the rise
of external appearances are discussed in relation to ethical dilemmas.
Additionally, the article examines how to maintain the harmony between beauty
and human dignity, as well as the challenges of promoting social equality in
society.

Introduction.
The harmonization of human dignity and beauty is one of the
important ethical and aesthetic issues in modern society. A person’s beauty is
often based on their external appearance, but beauty also has deep ethical
dimensions. Human dignity, on the other hand, is linked to a person’s internal
characteristics, moral virtues, personal rights, and freedoms, rejecting the idea
of beauty being solely tied to external appearance. As it is stated, "Human
dignity is supreme. A person must live today, not in the distant future, but right
now, content with and happy in their life" [1;3]. Thus, finding a balance between
beauty and human dignity requires maintaining a balance between society's
ethical values and aesthetic demands.
Today, the standards of beauty through social media and the media have
become more rigid, with many social movements fighting against the influence
of ideal external appearances. These beauty norms often overlook a person’s
internal qualities and human values. As a result, people are increasingly valuing
external beauty over inner beauty and losing sight of human values, leading to
social negative consequences.
The ethical aspects of beauty, especially the use of cosmetic surgery, div
modification, and other methods aimed at improving appearance, are highly
relevant. Such innovations increase social pressure, forcing individuals to
conform to ideal beauty standards. At the same time, maintaining harmony

between beauty and human dignity requires recognizing the importance of fully
valuing inner virtues, not just external appearance.
Therefore, this article focuses on exploring the contemporary social and
ethical issues surrounding the harmonization of human dignity and beauty. By
analyzing the relationship and social influences between beauty and ethical
values, it examines how to preserve beauty and values from the perspective of
individual rights and freedoms in society.
Main part.
The harmony between human dignity and beauty is one of the
key social and ethical issues in modern society. Beauty is often defined by
external appearance, facial expressions, div shape, and clothing. However, the
essence of beauty should not be limited to external appearance, as true beauty is
also related to a person’s internal qualities, moral behavior, and personal values.
Maintaining this harmony presents significant challenges within modern social,
cultural, and ethical systems.
The connection between beauty and ethics.
When analyzing the connection
between beauty and ethical values, it becomes evident that aesthetic norms and
ethical principles should complement each other and not conflict. Nowadays, the
influence of media and social networks on beauty standards is growing. The
idealized portrayal of external beauty exposes younger generations to stress and
feelings of inadequacy. These altered ideals of beauty sometimes reject the
appreciation of true values. Turning external appearance into an ideal can lead
to people’s reluctance to accept their natural state and maintain their dignity. In
fact, “The inner beauty of a person is defined by their manners, behavior, and
moral virtues. This is what the science of elegance calls moral beauty” [2;217].
Social pressure and beauty standards.
Social pressure plays a significant role
in altering beauty standards. Through media, advertising, and social networks,
the "ideal" form of beauty is presented, forcing individuals to conform to these
ideals. Cosmetic surgery and aesthetic modifications further amplify this
pressure. Modern youth, in particular, are more inclined to alter themselves in
ways that go against health and ethical principles in order to attain an ideal
external appearance. At the same time, it is crucial to promote the appreciation
of inner beauty and moral qualities, rather than limiting beauty to external
appearance.
Cosmetic surgery and aesthetic modifications.
The role of cosmetic surgery in
modern society complicates the relationship between beauty and human dignity.
Cosmetic surgery is increasingly used to help individuals attain an ideal external
appearance. However, there are ethical concerns regarding such procedures. On

the one hand, cosmetic surgery can boost a person's confidence, but on the other
hand, it leads to the rejection of natural appearances. This brings about ethical
dilemmas, as an excessive emphasis on external beauty can result in the loss of
internal dignity.
Maintaining harmony between beauty and human dignity.
Maintaining
harmony between beauty and human dignity requires a broader societal
understanding. Beauty should not be linked only to external appearance but
should also encompass inner beauty. Social and cultural norms that completely
focus on external appearances deprive people of appreciating higher ethical
values. To properly harmonize beauty and human values, society must develop
norms that appreciate personal freedoms and the true dignity of humanity. The
strengthening of personal freedoms and individualism plays a critical role in
changing ethical norms. In their work Habits of the Heart, Robert Bellah and
others analyze the conflict between individualism and society's collective ethical
values. They argue that "with the rise of personal freedoms in modern society,
there has been an increase in the rejection of previously established ethical
norms by society and the acceptance of new individualistic values" [3;109]. This,
in turn, leads to changes in ethical norms and values.
Conclusion.
The harmony between human dignity and beauty is giving rise
to complex ethical and aesthetic issues in modern society. External beauty,
especially through standards created by social media and the media, is having a
strong influence on society. This leads to many individuals experiencing low
self-esteem and pressure to turn their external appearance into an ideal. Linking
beauty solely to external appearance disregards a person’s true values, moral
virtues, and inner beauty.
While cosmetic surgery and aesthetic modifications aim to perfect beauty,
they also raise ethical questions. Decisions to alter one’s appearance often
diminish internal values and lead to unique ethical challenges. Moreover, the
harmonization of beauty and values plays an important role in ensuring social
equality. Valuing beauty not only for its external appearance but also for its
inner virtues helps foster personal respect and self-acceptance in society.
Modern literature has explored the interaction between beauty and ethical
values through various approaches. One of these approaches is analyzing
aesthetic-ethical aspects from psychological and social perspectives. An example
of this is Abraham Maslow’s theory of the “Need for Self-Actualization,” which
emphasizes the importance of inner beauty and moral virtues in social and
personal development [4;183].

In the future, to maintain harmony between beauty and human dignity,
social norms must be reconsidered, and a complete harmony between the
internal and external aspects of beauty must be created. Beauty standards
should be reshaped through media and social networks, with a focus on
increasing ethical responsibility and respecting human values. In this way, the
harmony between beauty and human dignity will help shape values based on
health, justice, and equality in society.
