Introduction
The global digital transformation has led to a fundamental change in the information
exchange, presentation culture, and forms of communication in the modern education system.
Especially since the second decade of the 21st century, short-form media platforms — in
particular, services such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts — have become an
important factor in attracting the attention of the younger generation and developing skills in
delivering information quickly and creatively. At the same time, platforms that cultivate
traditional speech competencies — for example, presentations in the TED Talks format —
retain their importance in developing a culture of communication, strengthening logical
thinking, and teaching socially influential speech styles in a modern educational environment.
In the context of the shrinking of educational communication processes through digital
media, teaching presentation skills is emerging as a complex didactic problem that involves
not only interactive and multimodal approaches, but also media literacy, visual thinking, and
transversal competencies. Today's young students have become an audience that relies on
visual and dynamic content in many cases, preferring short and meaningful information.
Therefore, teachers are faced with the task of not only teaching traditional presentation
techniques, but also adapting them to the aesthetics of modern short-format media. This
article analyzes the methodological and pedagogical differences between modern short-
format media tools and traditional presentation platforms. Also, based on them, a didactic

model of the educational process based on integrative approaches, innovative educational
technologies and storytelling elements aimed at developing presentation competencies is
developed. This study identifies effective ways to form speech and multimodal
communication skills in representatives of the digital generation.
Materials
.
Within the framework of this study, a number of empirical and theoretical materials on
modern digital media tools and traditional speech activity platforms serving to form
presentation skills were used. The theoretical basis of the study was formed by the following
main sources on educational technologies, digital pedagogy, media literacy and the
development of communicative competencies:
Advanced research on the didactic potential of short-form media platforms such as
TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and their educational integration;
Analysis of the structural features (composition, visual design, speech culture, methods
of influencing the audience) of TED Talks and similar professional presentation formats;
Scientific articles on the concepts of multimodal communication and transmedia
learning, in particular Mayer (2009) Multimedia Learning Theory and Kress & van Leeuwen
(2001) Foundations of Visual Grammar;
Modern psycholinguistic research affecting the reading, comprehension, memorization
and communication behaviors of the digital generation.
The following pedagogical and practical resources were used as empirical material:
Presentations created during experimental sessions with the participation of 40
university students (20 short TikTok-style videos and 20 continuous speech samples in the
TED Talks format);
Presentation analysis rubrics based on these videos, including: content, delivery, visuals,
engagement, and time management criteria;
Metacognitive reflections and interview transcripts written by students as final
reflections;
Learning platforms used in the learning process: Canva, PowToon, Prezi, CapCut, and
other video editing and presentation tools.
Also, a content analysis was conducted on selected sample TikTok and TED Talks
presentations. During this analysis, the style of the speech, the structure of the main ideas, the
consistency of visual and audio tools, storytelling elements, forms of audience appeal, and the
expressiveness of the final conclusions were determined. All materials collected during the
study were analyzed based on a special coding system and interpreted using qualitative and
quantitative methods.
Discussion
The rapid development of digital communication tools is also causing fundamental
changes in educational processes. In particular, the fact that short-format media content - for
example, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels - has become not only a means of
entertainment among young people, but also a means of obtaining information, expressing
opinions and self-expression, encourages educators to form new methodological positions.
These changes directly affect the process of teaching presentation skills, as the modern
audience has learned to perceive content in a short, attractive and visually rich way. Empirical
observations conducted within the framework of the article showed that short videos in

TikTok format are significantly more effective in activating students' attention and
motivational resources, developing their ability to convey their thoughts clearly and
effectively in a short time. At the same time, presentations prepared in the format of TED
Talks provide an opportunity to in-depth study of speech structure, logical consistency,
argumentation and rhetorical strategies. Therefore, although there are differences in form
and content between these two media formats, their didactic potential is complementary.
Through short-form media, students develop multimodal literacy, that is, the
competence to express ideas by integrating various forms of expression such as text, image,
video, sound and movement. This creates the basis for transversal competencies that are
considered an important requirement of 21st century education - creative thinking, problem-
solving, digital literacy and teamwork. Meanwhile, the TED Talks format serves to form
discursive competencies, that is, the ability to present information systematically, based on
evidence and taking into account the audience. During the discussion, it was found that
educational effectiveness can be achieved only if teachers accept these two approaches as an
integrative approach, not as a conflict. That is, while short presentations in the TikTok style
are used to attract the initial attention of students and activate creative thinking, classes in the
TED Talks format serve to prepare them for deeper analysis, reasoning and social
communication.
However, the overly simplistic nature of short-form media can sometimes lead to
superficial educational effects. This is especially evident in the presentation process, in the
form of insufficient information density, lack of logical coherence, or reduced communication
with the audience. Therefore, balance, critical approach, and methodological control are
important in the use of these tools in pedagogical practice. In general, this study proposes an
approach to the formation of presentation skills based on media convergence - that is, the
didactic harmony of different media formats. This can serve to make the educational process
not only interactive and modern, but also deep and purposeful. Also, through this approach,
students will have the opportunity to master not only the art of “speaking”, but also the art of
expressing, illustrating, and influencing ideas.
Conclusion
In modern education, the development of presentation skills is considered not only as
part of language learning or speech culture, but also, in a broader sense, as a person’s ability
to exchange information, express himself and influence the social environment. The
integration of digital technologies, especially short-form media, into education requires
considering this process in a new context. The research conducted in this article has shown
that the TikTok and TED Talks formats serve as complementary platforms for teaching
presentation skills, but also perform specific didactic tasks. Short-form media such as TikTok
develop students’ ability to concentrate, think quickly, be creative, and use visual means of
expression. This format, in turn, represents a new way of shaping education in the conditions
of the “attention economy”. The information consumption habits of the younger generation,
especially those based on the “scroll culture,” require the introduction of these tools into the
teaching process. However, this format also has its limits: less attention is paid to in-depth
analysis, sequence, and argumentation. On the other hand, presentations in the TED Talks
format are based on traditional rhetoric, logical structure, reasoning, and deep
communication with the audience. This format is distinguished by the fact that educational

speech is cognitively thorough, informative, and impressive. Through this format, students
not only learn to speak, but also learn strategies for logically justifying ideas, combining them
visually and verbally, and influencing the audience. On this basis, it can be said that a
convergent approach to teaching presentation skills, that is, combining the creative brevity of
TikTok with the deep and logical expression of TED Talks, is one of the most effective
methodological strategies. Students are first aroused by a sense of interest and participation
through short formats, and then this participation is strengthened by continuous and
substantive presentations. As a result, students are formed as digitally literate individuals in
the context of modern media, able to communicate and present their ideas to different
audiences.
The results of the study suggest that educational institutions should reconsider presentation
teaching methodologies, taking into account the information consumption habits and digital
culture of modern students. This will support not only communicative competencies, but also
personal branding, public speaking, and professional identification processes. Thus, teaching
presentation skills across the media spectrum, from TikTok to TED Talks, is a new paradigm
of modern education, which serves to develop the creative, critical, and socially mature
personality of the student. In the future, the development and implementation of integrated
curricula based on this approach is expected to be an important factor in increasing
educational effectiveness.
