Introduction:

The importance of expressive reading in

literature lessons. One of the main objectives of
literature lessons is to foster in students a deep
understanding of literary works, to help them feel the
aesthetic and moral messages of a text, and to develop
their skills in comprehending literary language and
expressive reading. The art of expressive reading plays
a crucial role not only in conveying the content of a
literary work but also in providing listeners with
aesthetic pleasure. Therefore, literature teachers must
pay special attention to teaching expressive reading.
This process broadens students' emotional horizons
and enriches their speech and thinking.

The concept and significance of expressive reading.
Expressive reading is the art of reading aloud in a way

that fully conveys the content, characters, author’s

perspective, and emotional tone of the work. It reflects
the reader's understanding of the text, reading
technique, speech culture, and ability to express
emotions. Through expressive reading, students are
able to animate characters, feel their experiences, and

communicate the emotional content of the text to the
audience. This process also contributes to the aesthetic
upbringing and development of students' artistic
thinking.

Moreover, expressive reading ensures that students
are emotionally and psychologically engaged with the
text. Reading with emotional involvement helps
children imagine the characters and develop empathy.
Additionally, expressive reading increases students'
confidence in public speaking, enhances their stage
presence, verbal expression, articulation, use of pauses
and stress in speech.

Through expressive reading, students not only
understand the content of the text more deeply but
also learn to express their thoughts in a consistent,
clear, and aesthetically pleasing manner. This nurtures
analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and independent
opinion-forming competencies. Therefore, expressive
reading is an essential methodological component of
literature lessons.

reading

The main requirements for expressive reading in
literature lessons include:

Full comprehension of the text: Before reading, the
student must understand the content, plot, and
character system of the work.

Clear pronunciation: Every word, sound, and stress
must be pronounced correctly and clearly.

Use of pauses and pacing: It is important to use pauses
appropriately according to the content and to control
the speed of reading.

Intonation: The reading should match the emotional
state of the text, the mood of the characters, and the

author’s tone.

Voice timbre: Finding a suitable tone for each character
and reading them distinctively helps bring the
characters to life.

Eye tracking: Monitoring the text visually while reading
helps maintain focus and concentration.

Role of ICT in teaching expressive reading. Today,
information and communication technologies (ICT)
offer great opportunities in teaching expressive

reading. These technologies help attract students’

attention, promote deeper understanding of texts, and
develop listening and perception skills. Especially in
modern educational settings, ICT tools can teach
students

to

approach

expressive

reading

independently and creatively.

Interactive whiteboards can be used to visually present
texts and explore their phonetic, morphological, and
semantic aspects. This method not only engages
students and listeners but also enhances the
preparation stage for expressive reading.

Electronic audiobooks allow students to listen to
literary texts read by professional actors. Through this,
students learn to correctly apply elements such as
intonation, pause, and stress. Audio materials also
reinforce skills in conveying the emotional tone and
mood of each character.

Mobile applications, including interactive games and
exercises, help students independently prepare for
expressive reading. During these activities, students
identify their mistakes and practice proper
pronunciation and listening.

Online platforms (such as Google Classroom, Zoom,
Quizlet) enable teachers to assign tasks based on

literary texts and assess students’ expressive reading

through video recordings. This not only allows
monitoring of the reading process but also provides
opportunities for its analysis.

In addition, metaverse and AI-based tools allow

students to participate in virtual dramatizations. For
example, performing important events from a literary
work in a live metaverse environment and portraying

each character helps develop students’ expressive

reading skills.

Thus, modern technologies enhance the quality of
expressive reading lessons, create favorable conditions
for students to improve themselves, and allow for more
effective organization of the educational process.

The role of expressive reading in developing artistic
thinking. Through expressive reading, students not only
understand the text but also feel it, reflect on its artistic
elements and characters. This develops artistic
thinking, aesthetic taste, and oral speech. Additionally,
students acquire abilities such as empathy, figurative
thinking, and dramatic imagination. These skills are
crucial for successful participation in social life in the
future.

CONCLUSION

Expressive reading is an effective tool for increasing

students’ interest in literature, improving their speech

culture, and developing their artistic thinking.
Therefore, it is essential to focus on developing
expressive reading skills in literature lessons and to
conduct each stage with careful planning. The teacher
must go beyond simply reading, identifying and

nurturing each student’s unique abilities and helping

them grow as creative individuals.
