ABSTRACT

In this written article in pencil drawing, which is one of the foundations of fine art, be it household items, geometric

elements, landscape or portrait, in all of them the main tool is the light and shadow aspects. Each step is illustrated

with drawings.

INTRODUCTION

When we say "shadow and light", we mean dark and

light lines and how they are distributed in the image of

each object. Regardless of the type and genre of the

clock, architects have no choice but to turn to pencil

drawing, since an architect in his studies of the

composition of buildings and structures always works

primarily with pencil drawings, i.e. sketches. It is also

important to learn the rules of chiaroscuro with a

detailed knowledge of pencil drawing (Figure 1).

Once the linear constructive structure of the objects

has been correctly executed, that is, after the correct

placement, drawing and division, the spatial position

and dimensions of the materials, especially the light

and shadows, are of great importance Figure 2.

Architects can correctly depict the volumes of

geometric bodies only through shadows and

penumbras. As a result of light falling on objects, which

returns and falls on another, it creates reflected light.

Light is direct sunlight or artificial light falling on the

surface of an object. Shadow is the back (reverse)

illuminated part of an object, a place where the rays of

light did not fall. Figure 3.

Figure 3.

When we talk about light and shadows, we must first

understand what they are. Light is direct sunlight or

artificial light falling on the surface of an object. We

know that there are two types of light: natural light and

artificial light. If we understand natural light as sunlight

or moonlight, artificial light is created by electricity and

flame rays. Shadow is the back side of the illuminated

part of objects, the side that is not exposed to light

rays. There are 2 types of shadows. These are custom

shadows and shadows. A private shadow is the side

opposite the illuminated part of an object, that is, the

part that is not exposed to light Figure 4.

Figure 4.

In pencil drawing classes, the correct and realistic

description of the sizes of objects is done with a simple

pencil, and their shadows and highlights are also done

with a simple pencil. It is advisable to make more

sketches of buildings and structures, pencil drawings

and practical exercises in order to work well with a

pencil in architectural pencil drawing, painting and

sculpture. Therefore, when drawing images of

buildings and structures, it is recommended to work

based on the shape and size of objects of different

sizes and shapes. Penumbra is a penumbra in which the

light falling on an object at an angle forms a penumbra.

Penumbra is mainly located between light areas and

private shadows, so the shadows are not uniformly

dark. As a result of the objects hitting the reflected

light can be stronger or weaker depending on how far

the objects are from each other. Therefore, when

studying the meaning of the light and shadow aspect

as the main tool of architectural pencil drawing,

painting and sculpture, it is necessary to have accuracy,

intelligence, knowledge and a strong spatial

imagination in using the laws of light and shadow

images.
