Abstract:

This article provides facts and ideas about the international role and importance of the

English language. Each of these points is summarized after some research. There are also some shortcomings
in the spread of the English language.

Key words:

"global village", UN, Dickens, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, the Beatles, the Rolling

Stones, guru, babu, chorpoy, curry,

Today's world is known as the "global village" and is the result of scientific inventions made in the

second half of the 19th century. Language has played a key role in the development of mankind, in the
dissemination of ideas in the past and will play a more important role in its future growth and development.
Thus, the study of language(s) is of the utmost importance to humanity, and the necessary attention must be
given to ensuring that humanity moves smoothly into the stage of maturity or universal consciousness.

English language is a language belonging to the Germanic group of the Indo-European family.

English is the working and official language of the UN. Every world act, technical publication, book,
instruction, song, poster, letter will be read and understood by different nations and peoples if they are
presented in English.

English is so popular that it has become the standard language of international communication.

Currently, 75% of the world's mail is in English, 60% of radio programs are broadcast in English, and more
than half of the world's periodicals are printed in English. It is estimated that about one billion people in the
world use English as their mother tongue or foreign language. The use of English as an official or semi-
official language is common in more than 70 countries and plays a very important role in another 20 states.
More than 1400 million people live in countries where English is traditionally spoken. About 75% of mail
and information in the world is stored in English. Of the approximately 50 million Internet users, most use
English.

This spread of the English language around the world is due to the fact that Great Britain was and is

a world maritime power. She had colonies and then dominions all over the world. Therefore, many countries
now use English on a par with their official language: India, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore,
South Africa, the Federated States of Micronesia and a number of others. Some countries choose this
language as a state language: USA, Antigua and Bahamas, Barbados, Ghana, Dominican Republic, Nigeria,
Solomon Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and others.

English is so popular that it has become the standard language of international communication.

Currently, 75% of the world's mail is in English, 60% of radio programs are broadcast in English, and more
than half of the world's periodicals are printed in English.

The need to introduce new information technologies in all spheres of human life is becoming more

and more obvious. It is difficult to imagine modern life without a computer. It has become as much a
necessity as a calculator, a notebook, a typewriter, a music center, a device for accessing and storing
information. The world of computer science "speaks" English. English became the "new Latin". In the field
of scientific know-how and technological development, everyone needs to know English to be part of the
21st century. It is easy to see why in Italy, for example, English is required for many technical professions.
And in China it is the main language taught in schools.

Nowadays, a huge number of people around the world are learning English, as they realize that only

with knowledge of the language can you become successful in a particular area, if you use it in combination
with your skills. All communication between people is built in English. From elementary school, children
begin to learn English.

Attempts have been repeatedly made to create a replacement for the English language, in order to

simplify the study and equalize the possibilities of all nationalities for mutual interaction. They led to the
formation of several "common" languages, the most effective of which turned out to be Esperanto. But,
having designated a certain circle of admirers, he stopped developing. Numerous experts voiced the idea that

Esperanto's lack of history and roots served as a prerequisite for this, while English is the language of
Dickens, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and many other great musicians and
writers.

Along with the development of English as a world language, we learn about some of the features that

a world language should have. Regardless of the origin, it should be a practical and profitable language that
can cover the needs of everyone. Although English was originally the language of the British, there are now
many varieties of it, including American, African, Indian and Australian English. In addition, the English
language now brings together the dreams, aspirations of many peoples, as well as the experience of various
countries. It is used to convey a huge amount of various information, whether it be the latest achievements in
the field of science and technology, enriching the experience of an ethnic group, or business negotiations; in
documentation of cultural characteristics; in individual experience. Its vocabulary was greatly enriched by
new words borrowed from other languages of the world. Over time, it becomes obvious that the global
language will change beyond recognition, as it happens with the English language.

About ten thousand words borrowed from Hindi and other Indian languages have become part of

Indian English. These include: guru, babu, chorpoy, curry, etc. We are very familiar with the following
commonly used pidgin words: lathi-charge (the phenomenon in which a group of police officers run after
someone with a police baton), rickshaw-wall (a small two-wheeled cart for one passenger, pulled by one
person), double-roti (bread), etc.

33

However, there are some problems with English language. As a global language, English faces many

challenges. Spoken English varies from region to region in accordance with the cultural and linguistic
differences of the local people. Similarly, written English is also very different in lexical aspect, in form and
structure, since the language is primarily the bearer of its thought and "scheme". Therefore, the English used
by an African is not the same as the language used by an Australian. Exposure to electronic SMS also affects
English spelling and grammar. The questions of "clarity" and "acceptability" of various types of English
have not yet been fully resolved.

34

The big problem of overcoming love-hate associated with a foreign language has not yet been

resolved. In addition, there are strong reservations about English from language communities such as French,
Arabic, German and Dutch. Many non-linguistic causes, also prominent when it comes to world language,
include nationalism, ethnicity, ideology, religion, politics, and culture, often in complex and sometimes
explosive mixtures.

35

At present, it is difficult to predict what exactly English may be needed in the future, but there is no

doubt that it will be needed. Today, our state is becoming the most open to international partnerships. If we
strive to use the world experience, talk and negotiate with people of different cultures, we cannot do without
English. And the better we know and understand it, the more we can get knowledge about others and declare
ourselves.

English tops the top five leading languages in the world. The world languages also include Russian,

French, Chinese, Spanish and also Arabic. All over the world we can see papers and documents filled out in
English. It is in English that meetings of the world's leading communities are held: the UN General
Assembly, the European Union, the European Security Union, OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Countries) and a number of other organizations.

English is needed everywhere: at work and at leisure. Whether you are at a business meeting or on a

leisure trip, at negotiations or in the reading room - English will always support you: in a cafe, hotel, cinema,
museum or during city tours. Announcements at airports around the world, symbols on maps, signs on roads
-

in most countries, all this is written in English. Understanding English, a person will not disappear

anywhere in the world. And today they will not tell you that default, dealer, leasing, marketing, penalties,
blog, and a number of other words came from English. We are so used to them that we no longer notice how
English words fill our lives more and more.

Based on the above, the following conclusions can be drawn:
-

English is a means of communication throughout the world

-

English opens up many new opportunities for people of all ages

-

English helps to broaden one's horizons

-

English enriches the inner world of a person

-

English contributes to the development of a person in many directions and is necessary in modern

society

General conclusion: a modern person must speak English. All the opportunities available precisely

with knowledge of English significantly enrich the world of a person and expand the boundaries of his
knowledge of the world.
