Postoperative purulent complications (PGO) remain one of the main causes
of prolonged hospitalization and deterioration of patients' condition in pediatric
surgery. These complications require timely diagnosis and effective prevention,
as the development of infection can significantly complicate the recovery
process and increase the risk to the child's life. It is important to note that the
prevention of POGO in children requires a specific approach due to the
peculiarities of the anatomy, immune system and physiology of the child's div.
Principles of prevention of POGO.
Modern prevention of postoperative infections is based on several key
areas aimed at minimizing the risk of purulent complications.
Proper preparation of the patient for surgery plays a key role in preventing
infectious complications. It is important to conduct:
• Treatment of the skin and mucous membranes. Antiseptic treatment of a
child's skin using chlorhexidine or iodopovidone, as well as intestinal cleansing
with enemas, helps reduce the likelihood of infection.
• Antibacterial prevention. In some cases, it is necessary to administer
broad-spectrum antibiotics 30-60 minutes before surgery. This helps to reduce
the likelihood of infection in the surgical field.
• The general condition of the patient. It is important to take into account all
concomitant diseases of the child, which may require additional measures to
stabilize the immune status, for example, the appointment of immunostimulants.
Infection prevention is closely related to the quality of the operation.
Modern methods can reduce injuries:
Minimizing tissue injury through less invasive technologies such as
endoscopy or laser surgery helps reduce damage and inflammation.
• Compliance with sterile conditions in the operating room and the use of
modern sterile materials and antiseptics minimize the risk of infection.
Patient care during the postoperative period also affects the risk of:

• Monitoring of the wound condition. Regular wound treatment, the use of
antiseptics, as well as changing bandages can prevent the development of
infection.
• Timely administration of antibiotics. If there are signs of inflammation or
if there is a high risk of infection, antibiotics are selected according to the
microflora and the patient's condition.
An integrated approach is important to prevent POGO, including:
• Correction of nutrition, providing a full-fledged protein and vitamin
metabolism to normalize the healing process.
• Immunostimulation if the child has a weakened immune system. Drugs
that boost the immune response can significantly reduce the risk of infection.
Modern technologies also play an important role in the prevention of POGO.
The use of antiseptic films, which create a protective barrier on the wound, and
medical gels with a long-lasting antimicrobial effect can significantly improve
the results of surgical treatment.
Conclusion
: The prevention of postoperative purulent complications in
pediatric surgery requires an integrated approach, including proper patient
training, compliance with high standards of surgical asepsis, the use of
antibacterial therapy and the provision of high-quality postoperative care.
Modern methods and technologies can significantly reduce the risk of PGO,
which contributes to the successful recovery of the child and reduces the time of
his hospitalization.
