Abstract:
The article reviews the analysis of fabrics recommended for
special clothing. The properties of each fabric, namely water and air
permeability, durability, are studied.
Keywords:
workwear fabrics, gore-tex, ripstop, kevlar, spandex, nomex,
waterproof, durability.
Workwear fabrics vary depending on the purpose, design, and location of
the garment. Below are some common fabrics for workwear.
Nomex – This fabric is designed to work at high temperatures and is often
used in fire-resistant clothing, such as for firefighters, the military, or in areas
where there is a chemical hazard. Nomex is fire-resistant and insulating.
Kevlar – Kevlar is used especially in hazardous workplaces, such as steel
mills or areas where there is a physical hazard.
Gore-Tex – This fabric is waterproof and breathable. It is used especially for
outdoor clothing, such as rain jackets or coats.
Ripstop – Ripstop fabrics are mainly characterized by being lightweight and
durable. They are mainly used for expeditions, sports (such as skydiving or
mountaineering) and military clothing. Ripstop fabrics are one of the most tear-
resistant fabrics.
Softshell – The main advantages of softshell fabrics are their elasticity and
breathability. Softshell materials are used in clothing that protects against the
outside environment.
Fleece – Fleece materials retain heat well and are often used in sportswear
or as underwear. They are light and soft.
Polyester – This synthetic material is used for many special clothing.
Because it dries quickly and is considered durable. It is especially used in
protective clothing, workwear and sports uniforms.

Spandex (Lycra) – This is an elastic fabric that has high shape retention and
does not restrict movement. It is widely used in special clothing, such as
sportswear, gymnastics clothing.
Teflon (water-resistant fabrics) – These fabrics protect against water and
precipitation,
Aramid fibers – These have high strength and are used in hazardous
workplaces. Aramid fibers are resistant to impact and heat.
When choosing fabrics for special clothing, they are determined by the
purpose, environment, and need of the clothing. Each material has its own
advantages and disadvantages, so choosing the optimal fabric is important when
developing clothing designs.
Fabrics for special clothing are selected based on different conditions and
safety needs. Below are the detailed characteristics of each recommended fabric:
Nomex fire-resistant fabric. Nomex fabric does not burn even at very high
temperatures. It is known for its fire-retardant properties and is often used for
firefighter, aviation, and military clothing.
Nomex materials protect without transmitting heat, so they can be used for
special clothing used in hot environments. Nomex materials in many cases
provide high levels of ventilation, which is important for long-term work. Nomex
is highly heat resistant, but an additional protective layer is often required to
prevent electrical shock.
Applications: Clothing for firefighters, aviation industry, chemical plants,
military, and workers working in high-temperature conditions.

Kevlar - impact-resistant fabrics.
The main feature of Kevlar fiber is its high strength. It is very resistant to
impact and is mainly used in safety clothing.

Kevlar is characterized by a high level of air permeability, which reduces
sweating during long work. Kevlar fabrics are also heat resistant, but to a
slightly lower level than Nomex.
Applications: Used in clothing, chest protectors, safety suits, which protect
against cuts, impacts or injuries by the military, security personnel, or as a
coating material.

Gore-Tex is a waterproof and breathable fabric.
Gore-Tex fabrics are not completely waterproof, but they are also
considered to be good air permeability fabrics. Gore-Tex materials are light and
elastic, and are widely used in special clothing.
Breathability: This fabric allows outside air to pass through and internal
moisture to escape, while the skin remains dry and comfortable. Gore-Tex does
not have the ability to retain heat on its own, but it can be used in combination
with other heat-retaining materials.
Applications: Hiking, winter sports, clothing for rainy or cold weather,
winter coats, shirts.

Ripstop is a fabric that is resistant to shocks and tears.
The main feature of ripstop fabrics is that it provides strong protection
against shocks and tears. Ripstop materials are usually light, but highly durable.
Therefore, they are very durable and designed for long-term use. Ripstop fabrics
have good elasticity, while their durability is higher than other materials.
Applications: Military clothing, sports and outdoor clothing, clothing used in
extreme conditions, parachutes and expeditions.

Softshell wind and rain protection fabric.
Softshell fabrics provide very effective protection against wind and
completely block out the cold outside air. Softshell materials are usually elastic
and provide comfort when moving, which is very useful in sports. One of the
best properties of softshell fabrics is their resistance to rain. The breathability of
softshell clothing is especially good in high temperature conditions.
Applications: mountaineering, trekking, hiking, cycling, clothing in rainy
and cold weather.

Fleece heat-retaining material.
Fleece fabrics retain heat very well and are very light. This material dries
quickly and is very comfortable, so it is used in cold weather. Fleece is usually
soft and lightweight, which makes it comfortable for children and adults. Fleece
materials have good air permeability, which helps the skin breathe.
Applications: Winter clothing, warm clothing, sportswear, shirts, thermal
underwear.
Polyester fabric.
Polyester fabrics are very durable and long-lasting. They are very resistant
and protect against tearing. Polyester dries quickly and wicks moisture well. It is
also a very lightweight fabric.
Applications: Sportswear, workwear, outerwear, shirts, clothing for football
and other sports.
Spandex (Elastic material). Properties: Spandex is very elastic, its main
feature is shape stability and ease of movement. It can be easily woven and
processed. Spandex is a very durable and long-lasting fabric.
Application: Used for sportswear, yoga clothes, swimwear, ballet and other
clothes.
