The study of linguistic paradigms in cognitive linguistics is an important direction for studying the complex relationship between language and thought. This thesis analyzes how linguistic paradigms have been studied within cognitive linguistics and considers types of paradigms, the main ideas, theories, and methodological approaches derived in this process. Additionally it examines the integration between linguistics and cognitive science adding new dimensions to scientific discussions and allows for a deeper understanding of the language learning process. Cognitive linguistics analyzes language not only as a means of communication, but also as a factor shaping human thinking. Abstract.

The study of linguistic paradigms in cognitive linguistics is an

important direction for studying the complex relationship between language
and thought. This thesis analyzes how linguistic paradigms have been studied
within cognitive linguistics and considers types of paradigms, the main ideas,
theories, and methodological approaches derived in this process. Additionally it
examines the integration between linguistics and cognitive science adding new
dimensions to scientific discussions and allows for a deeper understanding of
the language learning process. Cognitive linguistics analyzes language not only
as a means of communication, but also as a factor shaping human thinking. The
structural features of language and the influence of language on cognitive
processes are inextricably linked with the development of linguistic paradigms.

The concept of paradigm is widely used in linguistics, logic, and general

science. The term comes from the ancient Greek word "paradeigma", which
means "sample" or "example". Paradigm was originally used in ancient Greek
philosophy, primarily in logical and scientific classification, to represent a
principled example or pattern of something. This concept was used to express
the main view of the idea or concept being expressed. Ancient Greek thinkers,
such as Aristotle, used the concept of paradigm in classifying topics and making
scientific decisions.

1

Aristotle's philosophy is very important for the

development of logical classification and paradigms in scientific decision-
making. In his works, he tried to create a system of scientific knowledge by
classifying objects, beings, and their properties. In Aristotle's works
"Metaphysics" and "Physics", he makes significant use of the concept of
paradigm to organize his worldview.

Aristotle developed a classification system called "categories", through

which he grouped beings according to their main properties and decisions.
Through such classification, he managed to conduct scientific research on a
structural basis. A paradigm defines the basis of scientific concepts, mainly using

examples, and paves the way for the formation of new theories.

A paradigm

provides examples that are necessary for the formation of new theories.
Through specific examples, scientists identify and understand scientific
concepts. Within the framework of the paradigm, it provides an impetus for the
emergence of innovations and the development of research. Aristotle's
categories and paradigm concepts play an important role in the history and
development of science, as they form the basis of the methodology of scientific
thought and research.

One of the followers of Aristotle who contributed to the development of the

concept of paradigm was René Descartes. Rene Descartes contribution to the
development of the concept of paradigm is mainly reflected in his philosophical
approach and scientific methodology. He introduced important ideas in his
works that influenced how paradigms are formed and developed.

Descartes

recommended skepticism about advancing paradigms.

3

In his work "Method", he

emphasized the need to build knowledge gradually and through reflection. This
methodology is important in the formation of a new paradigm or new views in
science.

Through Descartes's "Cogito, ergo sum" (I think, therefore I am), he

proposed that before we can know anything, we must first doubt everything.
This approach reveals the need to reconsider every step of scientific research
and to be skeptical of generally accepted knowledge. As a result, the groundwork
is laid for the emergence of new ideas and paradigms. Also, Descartes'
philosophy of reasoning, based on dividing problems into smaller parts and
studying each part separately, allows for a more precise and logical solution to
ancient philosophical problems, which in turn fosters new approaches to
scientific paradigms. These ideas of Descartes served as the basis for the search
for scientific validity and paved the way for changing paradigms. His
methodology has had an impact on various directions throughout the history of
science, enabling innovations.

The efforts of these scholars greatly contributed to the widespread use of

the concept of paradigm in all fields and the development of new concepts.

Paradigms serve as the basis for new scientific ideas and research.

considered in scientific methodology as a basic example that defines some
general rules and tasks. This concept plays an important role in a

comprehensive consideration of the process of scientific analysis and
experimentation. Thinking based on a paradigm helps in the formation of new
ideas and the development of theories. In this way, a paradigm plays a key role
not only in scientific but also in philosophical processes and actively participates
as important mechanisms in knowledge changes and revolutions.

The focus on

paradigms in social research makes it easier to study the underlying structures
of society, which in turn influences political and economic decision-making
while in psychology, paradigms serve as a methodological framework for
understanding the psyche and behavior. They help in the development of
nations and in solving the psychological problems of humanity. Furthermore,
paradigm shifts in education serve to increase the effectiveness of teaching
methods. New pedagogical paradigms enable students to be more active and
implement new approaches. Also, paradigm shifts in technology lead to the
creation of new products, services, and systems. This accelerates the emergence
of new solutions and increases competitiveness. All in all, the development of
paradigms played an important role in the changes of concepts emerged
previously and drive change in scientific and applied fields, create space for new
ideas and approaches, and ensure societal progress..
