THE COMPARISON OF THE MAIN VARIETIES
OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE.

Actuality:
The relevance of this work is due, on the one hand, to the great interest in this topic
in modern science, on the other hand, to its insufficient development by domestic and foreign
scientists.
Aim:
To study of the level of popularity of American and British English among students.
Materials and research methods:
Literature review, students’ survey.
Discussion:
English is an international language and the main language in 53 countries. About
400 million people consider it their native land. In total, one-fifth of the world's population is native
English speakers. Most literary works, Internet sites, news, and other relevant materials are primarily
translated into English. International conferences, presentations, and forums are also held in this
foreign language. 71% of the world's correspondence is also conducted in the language of Great
Britain and America. British English was formed in Great Britain, borrowing many of the roots of
words and the words themselves from the French, Germans, and Spaniards. However, there is a
language that cannot be taken lightly. It has complex grammatical rules, cumbersome constructions
and high requirements for compliance with the laws of spelling and pronunciation of usage.
Over time, British English has changed a lot. As a result, we have not only a variety of dialects,
but also 3 language types: conservative, standard, and advanced.
American English was formed in the United States from the British colonies living there and
local settlements. The Americans had to interact side by side with the Indians of several language
groups, as well as with native speakers of French and Dutch. They had to speak in a new way to
communicate with their new neighbors. In addition, the settlers came from different areas and were
representatives of different social groups in England. All these external influences eventually made
the "American" English adopted in circulation different from the British prototype.
Representatives of other language groups who came to live and work in America from
European countries also contributed to the formation of the language. They were Spaniards and
Italians, Scandinavians and Germans, French and Russians. However, the influence of other
languages on the formation of American English was not too strong, and it was reflected only in the
vocabulary.
Today, the English language spoken by Americans is not as diverse as at the time of the
formation of the United States of America. American English is clearly regulated and is the main
language of communication and has the status of the state language.
Results:
In our research work, we also conducted a survey of students about which language
they prefer to learn: American English or British English. Most of the students chose American
English.
Conclusion:
After conducting a comparative description of American and British English, we
identified some differences in the transcription of the entire word. The study identified the
characteristics of American English and British English, as well as their small differences that
underlie their education.
