The role of Fitrat’s anthologies in the development of Uzbek textology at the beginning of the 20th century
Abstract
The aim of the research is to reveal Fitrat’s skills as a textual critic and source-researcher in the Uzbek textology and source study in the early 20th century.
The object of the research is Fitrat’s anthologies such as “Oldest Turkish Literature Samples” (1927) and “Uzbek Literature Samples. Volume 1” (1928), as well as manuscripts and printed texts that served as a basis for the abovementioned books.
Scientific novelty of the research consists of the following:
The sources of classical literature samples included in Fitrat’s “Uzbek Literature Samples” were identified, and the principles of the scientist’s choice of source and text were revealed;
It was grounded that compared to the existing ones the engraved text published by Fitrat was freely composed version of prose, and that the book “The Story of Chistoni(y) Elig Bek” was presented by Fitrat to the science;
It was revealed that Fitrat created a “fihrist-dictionary” through the study of the “Oldest Turkish Literature Samples” and based on “Diwanu Lughat at-Turk”;
It was proved that “Miftah ul-adl”, the author of which was not shown in the anthology “Uzbek Literature Samples”, belongs to Khodja, and that Fitrat presented one of its manuscript copies to the science;
The sources of the samples from the works by Alisher Navoi and Bobur included in the “Uzbek Literature Samples” were found through the comparative study of their scientific and critical texts.
Implementation of the research results. Based on the obtained scientific results on the study of Fitrat’s “Oldest Turkish Literature Samples” and “Uzbek Literature Samples”:
Abdurauf Fitrat’s creative activity and literary views, and the conclusions of the dissertation on “The reflection of the samples of Timurid period literature in the anthology” and “Textual study of post-Navai period literature” were used in the fundamental scientific project No.OT-F8-151 “Encyclopedia of Literature”, which was carried out in the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek in 2007-2011. (Certificate No.89-03-3384 of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 17.09.2018). As a result, the materials in Volume I of the fundamental project “Encyclopedia of Literature” were enriched with the study of the need for the creation of the anthology;
The factual materials and scientific findings on the manuscripts and existing copies of the epic poems “Alpomish” and “Korkud ota kitobi”, scientific conclusions on text of the epic poem “Alpomish” included in the “Uzbek Literature Samples”, as well as information on the comparative study of the variants written in 1922 and 1928 were used in the scientific project No.FA-A1- G031 “History of Uzbek Folklore”. (Certificate No.3/1255-2599 of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 02.10.2018). Implementation of these results has made it possible to clarify the comparative textological research regularities of manuscript, lithographic and existing editions of the epic poems.
The scientific findings on such issues as the manuscript and lithographic copies of the works of Zahir ud-Din Muhammad Babur, lyrical heritage and sources by Atai, Lutfi and Hussaini, textual differences, text and content proportionality were used in the teleshows “Bugunning gapi” (Today’s Speech), “Bir bayt sharhi” (Interpretation of one verse) and “Odoblar xazinasi” (Treasury of Morals) of the tele-radio channel “Madaniyat va Marifat”. The text and content of Atai’s ghazals were interpreted on the basis of different texts in copies. The attitude to the creative heritage of Babur, development of press and publishing works in the early 20th century and factual material on the publication of classical literary samples were based on research results. (Certificate No.01-16/444 of the State Unitary Enterprise “Madaniyat va Ma’rifat” tele-radio channel of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Uzbekistan of 24.09.2018). As a result, the teleshows were enriched with scientific and theoretical information, and their scientific popularity was provided.
The volume and structure of the dissertation. The dissertation was presented on 147 pages consisting of an introduction, three chapters, conclusions, a list of used literature and appendixes.
