Abstract

history arehighlighted, emphasizing the special importance of teaching Rubob.
Attention is given to the methods of teaching Rubob, with a focus on the initial
stage.

An individual approach in teaching the rubab requires taking into account
the unique characteristics, abilities, and needs of each student. Every student
develops at their own pace, so it is important to consider their personal
capabilities and learning styles. The teacher should focus on developing the
student's strengths while working on improving their weaknesses. For example,
some students may be strong rhythmically, while others may excel at creating
melodies. Therefore, it is necessary to design learning plans and personalize
exercises according to the student’s abilities and interests. An individual
approach in teaching the rubab motivates the student, inspires them to reach
their goals, and helps them become more successful in their musical growth. The
Qashgar rubab is one of the oldest and richest traditions of Uzbek folk music. It
is mainly spread in the regions of Kashkadarya, Khorezm, and other Uzbek
provinces. The rubab is distinguished by its acoustic and vibrating sounds,
which makes it unique in musical expression.
The history of the Qashgar rubab dates back to ancient times. Its origins are
derived from the ancient musical instruments of Turkic peoples. Depictions and
examples of the rubab can be found in ancient written sources. The rubab is
typically made of wood, with its div covered in leather or plant materials. The
instrument has several strings, which are plucked or vibrated to produce
sound. The uniqueness of the rubab lies in its patterns and design, with each
rubab maker creating it in their own artistic style. When teaching the Qashgar
rubab, it is very important to use a step-by-step approach. This method
gradually introduces the student to more challenging tasks and playing
techniques, while also offering exercises tailored for both beginner and
advanced levels.
Beginner stage:
At this stage, the student learns to hold the
rubab correctly, tune the strings, and play simple chords. The exercises are
focused on practicing more and keeping the hands relaxed. It is important to
demonstrate both incorrect and correct ways of holding the

rubab.
Intermediate stage:
At this stage, students begin to perform melodies
and more complex chords. The teacher teaches the students how to produce the
correct sound, maintain rhythmic structure, and work with the strings. When
explaining the technique of performing chords and melodies, listening to and
analyzing the performances of other musicians is part of the process.
Advanced
stage:
At this stage, students learn to improvise and perform high-level
melodies. Focus is placed on developing musical expression and improvisation
skills. Teaching improvisation techniques, performing while creating melodic
shapes, and adding new interpretations to musical pieces are required. Teachers
often recommend repeating exercises performed on the rubab. Through
repetition, the student masters specific techniques and strengthens their
musical performance. In each exercise, it is important to identify and correct
subtle mistakes made by the student. When the teacher points out each mistake,
the student should make an effort to correct it. This strengthens the student’s
musical skills. Recognizing each positive development is necessary to motivate
the student. There are also some methodological guides and programs available
for teaching the Qashgar rubab. These guides present both traditional and
modern approaches to learning the rubab. The guides focus on learning both
simple and complex melodies, introducing students to basic musical rules,
chords, and rhythms. There are guides that provide a deeper understanding of
the rubab’s chord system, sound production techniques, and performance skills,
helping students learn music theory, rhythm, and tonality. In learning the rubab,
it is important not only to explain technical skills but also to clarify the
theoretical foundations of music. When teaching a student learning the Qashgar
rubab, it is possible to teach them how to create melodies based on music
theory. Combining theoretical education with practical exercises, explaining
tonality, chords, rhythm, and forms, and applying theoretical knowledge leads
students toward musical expression. The teacher of the rubab should encourage
students to listen to the performances of other musicians and analyze their
styles. This not only deepens the understanding of music but also enhances their
performance skills. For example, listening to performances by famous Uzbek
musicians or folk music performances and observing how they play and
improvise is part of the process. When explaining the structure and expression of
music to the student, it is very important to conduct short lessons based on the
students' needs and to apply an individual approach. It is necessary to take into
account each student's unique characteristics, providing individualized exercises
and lessons based on their specific challenges. Improvisation is a very important

part of performing on the rubab. The teacher should help the student develop
musical creativity and free expression, encouraging them to express themselves
freely in music, create new melodies, and develop their own performance style.
Creating complex musical phrases and developing unique music for oneself is
part of the process. When teaching the Qashgar rubab, it is very important to
choose the right methodological guides, approaches, and programs, and to select
an approach that suits the individual needs of the students. In teaching the
rubab, the teacher should not only focus on technique but also on developing
musical creativity and improvisation. This way, students not only learn the
rubab but also see it as a form of their own creative expression.
