FEATURES OF MODERN RUSSIAN MASS LITERATURE

Mamarajabov Ruslan

Well into the 20th century, Russian literature was an important forum for societal self-understanding. This function, however, was lost during the First World War. Revolution and civil war completed the transformation of the literary establishment, although another brief flowering followed in the 1920s. The chronological pattern of Russian literature at the beginning of the 20th century is mostly oriented towards the diverse movements, groups, and schools. Although some structures persisted in part into the years after 1917, they did not prove resistant to the political, social, economic, and cultural upheavals triggered by the war. Analogously, the authors changed not only their view of the world, but also their subjects and means of expression. For this reason, the war as an historical context of literary creation (with the decisive years of 1904/05, 1913/14 to 1917/18, and 1921/22) moves to the centre, including its interrelationship with the global revolutionary undercurrent of the time.

“THE THEME OF PRISON IN RUSSIAN LITERATURE” (BASED ON THE WORKS OF M. DOSTOEVSKY AND A. SOLZHENITSYN)

Nurmatova Shakhnoza Shukhratjon Kizi

Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn (11 December 1918 – 3 August 2008) was a Russian novelist. One of the most famous Soviet dissidents, Solzhenitsyn was an outspoken critic of communism and helped to raise global awareness of political repression in the Soviet Union, in particular the Gulag system. Solzhenitsyn was born into a family that defied the Soviet anti-religious campaign in the 1920s and remained devout members of the Russian Orthodox Church. While still young, Solzhenitsyn lost his faith in Christianity, became an atheist, and embraced Marxist–Leninism. While serving as a captain in the Red Army during World War II, Solzhenitsyn was arrested by the SMERSH and sentenced to eight years in the Gulag and then internal exile for criticizing Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in a private letter. As a result of his experience in prison and the camps, he gradually became a philosophically-minded Eastern Orthodox Christian.

THE ORIGINALITY OF MODERN RUSSIAN ANTI-UTOPIA (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE WORKS OF T. TOLSTOY AND A. GROMOV)

Rashidova Madina Rashid Qizi

This talk investigates the rhetorical and mythopoetic techniques deployed by ultranationalist journalist Aleksandr Prokhanov to transform geographical “space” into claims for Russianoccupied “place.” Prokhanov’s project is designed to support Putin’s drive for the incremental re-annexation of border areas with significant Russian population to the south and west of the Russian Federation. Documentation and discussion will include Prokhanov’s three main political projects: as chairperson of the Izborsk Club, Prokhanov’s physical building of “sacred mounds” in border areas and his rhetoric attached to these projects; the editorial bully pulpit in Prokhanov’s rightist newspaper, Zavtra, that support redrawing and expanding the existing western borders of the Russian Federation; Prokhanov’s ultranationalist novels, such as Gospodin Geksogen (2002) and Krym (2014) that script a reinvigorated Russian national identity. Although his writings have little to do with science fiction or even utopia per se—but seen in terms of speculative right-wing place-making rhetoric—Prokhanov’s pathos, vocabulary, and geographical imagination fit well with the themes and keywords of the 2017 Uppsala conference on “‘Russian World’ and Other Imaginary Places: (Geo) Political Themes in Post-Soviet Science Fiction and Utopias.” To start with, his writing embodies one prominent form of the contemporary Russian rightist political imagination. Many of his themes pair well with conference themes: of overcoming the trauma of territorial loss, creating an alternative historical narrative of re-membering imperial greatness; combining Russian Orthodoxy and the pagan occult to create new rituals of nationhood; and invoking the Ukrainian crisis (2014 - ) to build new fictions of Russian greatness.

ONOMASTIC CODE IN DYSTOPIAN NOVELS BY RUSSIAN WRITERS

Djumaev Ulug`Bek

We present the history of the emergence and development of literary onomastics, the relevance of which is currently not in doubt due to the involvement of its data for the analysis of the artistic world of different authors as linguists and literary critics. The aim of the study is to acquaint readers with those works in which reflections on the function of the proper noun in fiction can be considered as prerequisites for the emergence of onomastics. An important role in the development of science about the proper noun not only scientists, but also critics, writers and journalists, for example, V.G. Belinsky, N.S. Leskov, O.I. Senkovsky. Despite the initial interest of researchers to the etymological meaning of a literary name, in onomastic works middle of 20th century lighting find such problems, as reflected in the anthroponyms of the essential characteristics of the literary character, stylistic conformity onomastic units, social conditionality of name, etc. We point out the primary importance in the problems development of the new branch of linguistics for the 1950s of the works of such scientists as V.N. Mikhailov, R.P. Shaginyan, E.P. Magazanik, D.S. Likhachev. In conclusion we note the modern Voronezh onomastic school research specificity, founded by G.F. Kovalev, the successor of the already classical traditions of Russian onomastics. Surnames came late in human history to the world at large. They did not exist before the fifteenth or sixteenth century. Russia is no exception. In fact the very word for “surname” in Russian, familija, was borrowed from the West only in the seventeenth century, and a lot of Russian peasants did not have surnames right up to the day of the emancipation of serfs in 1861.[i] As you would expect, the upper aristocracy was the first social class to adopt surnames. They were based, for the most part on toponyms (place names). In other words, a prince whose domain encompassed the Vjaz’ma area became Prince Vjazemskij (most of these earliest surnames have adjectival type endings in -skij or –skoj). Among other names in this category are Obolenskij, Volkonskij, Trubetskoj, Meshcherskij, Kurbskij (Unbegaun intro, p. 20). To this very day Russians recognize these names as indicative of the origins of a person at the highest levels of the aristocracy in pre-Soviet Russia. It is noteworthy that two members of the Decembrists, who, in 1825, mounted an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the government and introduce liberal reforms inspired by the West, were Prince Evgenij Obolenskij and Prince S.P. Trubetskoj.

THE IMAGE OF A RUSSIAN INTELLECTUAL IN IMMIGRATION IN THE WORK OF S. DOVLATOV

Muminov Sukhrob

The primary meaning of a work of art is the personality of the author. Especially if it uses autobiographical material. Sergei Dovlatov (1941-1990) is a special case in this respect. Just as in the mysterious drawing by Maurice Escher two hands draw each other, the writer Dovlatov and the character Dovlatov are interdependent. Which does not mean they are the same. Those who knew him from books seemed to know him. Those who knew him in life understood that they knew him little. A great hoaxer, he knew how to bring the surrounding reality into an unstable state. All the facts in his biography are inaccurate, ambiguous, unclear. This should be remembered when reading his books - almost confessional in form, but mostly fictional in content. In the gravitational field around Dovlatov, reality is distorted, losing its authenticity. However, before getting personal, it would be good to understand the criteria. Humanistic pathos, characteristic of all world literature, can be called the justification of man. How is a person judged by people? The scale for assessing the social significance of each of us is located between two generalizing definitions: a big man and a small man. The megalomania inherent in Russian sovereignty recognized only statesmen as great people. So the tsarist censor was outraged by the inappropriate respect for the personality of Pushkin, expressed in his obituary: what importance can there be in a poet - especially such that he did not glorify sovereign power, but called for mercy for the fallen. It was on the question of the place of man in Russian reality that the state and society diverged in the most decisive way. Russian literature turned its face away from the mighty of this world and turned its heart to poor people, the poor, the unfortunate. Outsiders, seen through the magic crystal of art, turn out to be real people, and the masters of life - existential impostors. The end-to-end character of Dovlatov's prose, the author's alter ego, is a little man... in a country made up of dwarfs. This is the first surprise that confuses our minds: a big little man. It is generally accepted that the main pathos of Dovlatov's work is condescension to human weakness.

Fazilov Odil Yuldashevich

Words with lexical meaning do not express things, symbols, actions, but the concept of them. A concept is a general reflection of a thing-event, sign, action in the objective existence in the mind of a person. The concept summarizes the characteristics characteristic of one type of thing-phenomenon. For example, the concept of a tree, a mountain, a stone combines the common features of all mountains, stones and trees. In fact, there are many types of trees in existence, the amount of which is incalculable. The word "tree" does not refer to one of them, but expresses the general concept of this subject.

THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS OF THE ORGANIZATION OF PUBLIC PROCUREMENT IN THE REGULATION OF THE ECONOMY

Xusanov Qobuljon Muxiddinovich

In the context of climate change as a grand challenge, this article offers insights on market shaping from research on industrial networks and institutional work to the market practice perspective. The purpose of the study is to conceptually integrate policy practices and market practices aimed at coping with climate change using public procurement as a case. We draw upon a conceptual model distinguishing three separate market practice categories: market exchange, market representation, and market normalizing. In expanding the model with policy actors deliberate market shaping activities, we locate institutional work as part of the larger set of normalizing practices. Based on the extended model, we find two concepts worthy to be at the core of the analysis: translation within and between market practice categories, and temporality attributes of institutional work and market actor innovations. In an empirical study, reflecting an on-going abductive research process on market shaping, the article scrutinizes how government institutional work in Sweden can make public procurement contribute to innovations related to market practices. Based on a study of government documents, we formulate three propositions, on translation, temporality and market representation. The study suggests that temporality dimensions in institutional work to develop policy innovations and translation of the innovations to exchange practices affect the intended effects on procurement behavior. It also shows that policy innovations performed by institutional work might be in conflict with established norms to which actors might continue to adhere, requiring added translation efforts, and delaying climate mitigating effects. Based on the empirical observations, the article argues that value chains, as a model for market representation, may have the performative power to shape and reshape markets.
