GENDER ROLES AND WOMEN’S IMAGE IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK PROVERBS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY
This article investigates how gender concepts are reflected in English and Uzbek
proverbs, focusing on the ways men’s and women’s social roles are expressed through language. The
study aims to analyze the semantic and cultural meanings of proverbs that describe family relations,
respect, and power balance between genders. It compares metaphorical and lexical expressions in
both languages to show how cultural values shape the image of men and women. The research also
highlights the anthropocentric nature of proverbs and their role in preserving traditional gender
norms. The findings reveal both similarities and differences in how English and Uzbek societies
express ideas of respect, authority, and family responsibility through proverbs, demonstrating the
strong connection between language and gender in cultural identity.
