One of the key developments of the twenty-first century is globalization, which has an impact
on many facets of human existence, including politics, economy, culture, and language. It is difficult
for any country to be totally isolated in the connected globe of today. Stronger indirect impacts,
which can have both positive and negative outcomes, are frequently seen by nations that want to avoid
globalization. Globalization is altering people’s ideals, lifestyles, and worldviews in addition to the
economy.
Globalization has significantly altered Uzbekistan’s moral and cultural landscape. New
obstacles to national identity have been brought about by the expanding influence of digital
communication, mass media, and foreign material. A weakening of cultural roots may result from
certain young people’s preference for foreign languages and global trends over their own. However,
globalization should be seen as both a threat and an opportunity. It is now simpler to promote national
literature, translate works into other languages, and show them to a larger global audience thanks to
technology and international exchange.
Globalization does, however, also have certain spiritual concerns. If they are not
counterbalanced by a strong moral education, foreign ideologies, materialism, and the so-called "mass
culture" can have a harmful impact on young minds. The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat
Mirziyoyev, has stressed the importance of preserving the principles that constitute the country’s
identity and fortifying spiritual immunity in this period of swift change. In fact, as the world grows
more interconnected, so does the struggle for cultural and ideological sway. Consequently, fostering
cultural confidence and moral consciousness in young people is a top national objective.
David Crystal thinks that globalisation is a strong force that has made English the most common
language in the world. However, he also thinks that it is a double-edged sword that can threaten native

languages while also making new languages. He contends that linguistic supremacy is not the cause
of English's global growth, but rather historical and economic circumstances, and that as English is
accepted and modified around the world, numerous new variations are emerging as a result of
globalisation. Crystal promotes accepting this new diversity and appreciating the importance of
maintaining regional languages and dialects in addition to a universal language.
Beneficial effects
Enables communication: In order to overcome language barriers in worldwide business,
science, and education, a global lingua franca is now necessary due to globalisation.
Promotes linguistic variety English's global variety is enhanced by the emergence of new
dialects and variants of the language due to its broad adoption by non-native speakers.
Encourages inclusivity: As English becomes more widely used, new forms and applications
emerge that are more inclusive and reflective of the diverse global population that uses it.
However, it has some drawbacks, such as;
Endangers minority languages: Smaller, minority languages may become obsolete as a result
of English's dominance.
Difficulties with cultural identity: Local cultures and identities may be threatened by the
development of a dominant language.
Crystal's impartial viewpoint about globalization is following:
Recognise all sides: Crystal recognises the complicated and perhaps contradictory implications
of language globalisation; he does not have a position of complete opposition or unconditional
acceptance.
Accept change and diversity: Rather than attempting to impose a single, "standard" norm, he
supports acknowledging and appreciating the different English dialects that are forming.
Promote multilingualism: In order to close the gap between local and global languages, he
advocates for people to be bilingual, multilingual, or even multidialectal.
The decrease in the use of native languages is one of the main issues associated with
globalization. One language vanishes worldwide every two weeks, according to UNESCO, which is
a concerning indication of how precarious linguistic variety has become. The government of
Uzbekistan has put in place a number of initiatives to uphold the language’s status as the official state
language and encourage its usage in media, administration, and education. In this context, the 2019
Presidential Decree “On Strengthening the Status of the Uzbek Language as a State Language” has
been crucial. Even though English is becoming more and more important in commerce and research,
Uzbek language preservation is still crucial to preserving the nation’s spiritual independence.
The ways that individuals read and engage with literature have also changed as a result of
globalization. The emergence of digital platforms like social media, e-books, and online libraries have
altered how people consume literature. Many young people now access literature through
smartphones and internet tools, despite the fact that fewer of them read printed books. For example,
websites like Ziyo NET and Kitobxon.uz have contributed to the younger generation’s increased
access to and interest in Uzbek literature. In this way, technology can be a friend rather than an
enemy of cultural preservation if it is employed properly.
Education is another important component. Young people’s development of linguistic pride
and cultural awareness is greatly aided by schools and colleges. Project-based learning, multimedia
instruction, and digital storytelling are examples of contemporary teaching strategies that foster
deeper connections between students and national literature and their mother tongue. The next
generation can become both locally rooted and globally open if educators, parents, and authors

collaborate. True progress can only be made when modernization is coupled with the upholding of
moral and spiritual principles. There are hazards and possibilities associated with globalization.
Uzbekistan must capitalize on international innovation while safeguarding its language, literature,
and moral principles in order to maintain national identity. In the modern world, national traditions
can be preserved through the use of technology in education and culture.
In conclusion, although globalization has influenced language, we, the youth, must
communicate while adhering to literary language norms to preserve the national identity of our
mother tongue.
