Abstract:
Modern teaching of the Russian language in the context of digitalization and
changing educational standards requires the renewal of the teacher’s methodological toolkit.
This article examines current methodological approaches that contribute to increasing student
motivation, developing functional literacy, and enhancing communicative competence.
Particular attention is paid to interactive, activity-based, and digital technologies, the integration
of interdisciplinary connections, and the development of critical thinking.
Keywords:
critical thinking, digital technologies, motivation, interactive technologies.
1. Activity-Based Learning Approach
One of the leading principles of the Federal State Educational Standard (FSES) is the activity-
based approach focused on forming universal learning activities. In Russian language lessons,
this is implemented through:
- posing problem-based questions (e.g., "Can spelling mistakes be considered speech
violations?");
- project and research activities;
- role-playing and business games (e.g., "newspaper editorial office", "trial of a spelling error").
These forms help develop students’ logic, independence, and responsibility.
2. Interactive and Digital Technologies
Modern educational platforms (Yandex Textbook, Russian Electronic School, Skyes, Quizlet,
LearningApps) enable:
- individualized learning;
- instant feedback;
- gamification (quizzes, quests, online olympiads);
- development of digital literacy.
Additionally, tools like Padlet, Miro, and Google Jamboard support collaboration and student
engagement.
3. Development of Functional Literacy

Functional literacy includes the ability to apply language knowledge in real communication
situations. Effective techniques include:
- analyzing media texts;
- working with instructions, announcements, and letters;
- composing surveys, reviews, and essays.
These tasks teach students to navigate information flows and apply knowledge practically.
4. Critical Thinking and Reflection
Developing critical thinking is a key component of cross-curricular outcomes. Sample methods:
- “Thick and Thin Questions” technique;
- Bloom’s Cubes;
- INSERT reading strategy;
- PMI method (Pluses, Minuses, Interesting) for analyzing linguistic phenomena.
Reflective practices (student journals, feedback sticky notes, digital surveys) help learners
recognize their achievements and areas for growth.
5. Interdisciplinary Links and Contextualization
Including interdisciplinary themes (science, history, art) allows students to see the Russian
language as part of a holistic worldview. For example:
- analysis of historical speeches (integration with history);
- study of speech genres in literature;
- syntactic analysis of poetry (integration with music and literature).
Conclusion
Modern methodological approaches based on the principles of interactivity, individualization,
and the activity-based approach help make Russian language lessons more engaging, effective,
and aligned with 21st-century educational demands. Their implementation requires a
commitment to ongoing professional development and openness to innovation.
