THE "4K" MODEL IN PRIMARY EDUCATION
Mahmudova Sabina Amriddin kizi
is a 3rd-year student in the "Primary Education" program at
Gulistan State Pedagogical Institute.
Abstract:
The "4K" model is a new innovative approach that helps the student's outlook and
thinking grow. Education provided through new textbooks created on the basis of this approach
not only develops the child in all aspects, but also gives the necessary skills to adapt to modern
society and become a part of it. This model, unlike traditional education based on memorization,
focuses on developing students' creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication
skills.
Keywords:"

Aннотация:

Introduction.
In recent years, significant attention has been given to education in our country. In
particular, the task of improving teaching methodology has been outlined in the Concept for the
Development of the Public Education System until 2030. Accordingly, specific measures have
been taken to update school textbooks. This process started with primary education, as primary
education is the most crucial stage in personal development. During this period, a child begins to
comprehend the world, laying the foundation for imagination and knowledge. Therefore, based
on the experiences of leading foreign countries, new textbooks for grades 1-4 have been

developed using the "4K" model. This model not only teaches academic subjects but also helps
students acquire essential 21st-century life skills.
But what exactly is the 4K model? The 4K model consists of four key principles: collaboration,
communication, creative thinking, and critical thinking.
Collaboration: This refers to students' ability to work together in a team to achieve common
goals, fostering cooperation and mutual support.
Communication: The ability to exchange information effectively by clearly expressing thoughts
and opinions to an audience. This principle helps students listen, understand, and use language
tools efficiently.
Creative Thinking: Encourages students to apply new approaches, develop innovative solutions,
and think outside the box.
Critical Thinking: Enhances students’ ability to analyze, compare, interpret, evaluate, and make
decisions.
Literature Review.
Edward de Bono is a world-renowned scholar in creative thinking and
alternative approaches. He developed the Lateral Thinking and Six Thinking Hats methods,
emphasizing that while people often think in direct and traditional ways, creative solutions
require lateral thinking. The Six Thinking Hats method allows problems to be analyzed from
different perspectives.
The earliest writings on critical thinking can be traced back to Plato's dialogues, which present
Socratic teachings. In these works, Socrates discusses ethical dilemmas, such as whether it is
right for him to escape from prison. Socrates emphasized the importance of "seeking evidence,
critically examining judgments and assumptions, analyzing core concepts, and understanding not
just what is said but also the essence of actions." His questioning method, known today as the
Socratic Questioning technique, remains a popular strategy for teaching critical thinking.
Noam Chomsky, a linguist, philosopher, and political expert, has made significant contributions
to communication and critical thinking.
Lev Vygotsky, on the other hand, highlighted the importance of collaboration in education and
cognitive development. His theories explain how human thinking and learning develop through
social interactions. Vygotsky believed that students need to collaborate with knowledgeable
individuals (teachers, parents, or knowledgeable peers) to master complex knowledge. His
Sociocultural Theory emphasizes that social interactions play a crucial role in developing
communication skills. Methods for Developing Communication Skills:
Active listening – Paying close attention to the speaker and understanding their message.
Role-playing simulations – Practicing real-life situations through role-playing.
Debates and discussions – Engaging in open exchanges of ideas on various topics.
Research Methodology
. The concept of collaborative learning has been explored by scholars
worldwide, including Professor R. Slavin from Johns Hopkins University and Professors R.
Johnson and D. Johnson from the University of Minnesota. In the 1970s, John Dewey promoted
the idea of planning outcomes in collaborative learning and organizing practical activities. These
ideas have since been widely adopted in the education systems of countries such as the UK,
Canada, Germany, Australia, the Netherlands, and Japan.
Innovative educators such as Shalva Amonashvili, S. N. Lysenko, V. F. Shatalov, and E. N.
Ilyin emphasized the importance of humanitarian relationships between teachers and students in
the learning process. The principles of collaborative pedagogy are reflected in the educational
philosophies of A. Avloni, K. D. Ushinsky, A. S. Makarenko, V. A. Sukhomlinsky, J. J.
Rousseau, and Carl Rogers. Today, these ideas form the foundation of 21st-century education

concepts and are integrated into modern pedagogical technologies. The key idea of collaborative
learning is not just completing assignments together but learning and exploring collectively.
Application of the 4K Model in Lessons. Lessons designed under the 4K model encourage
active student participation, increase interest, and make the learning process interactive. Some
methods to apply the 4K model in the classroom include:
Creative writing tasks: Encouraging students to write fairy tales, continue a story, or create their
own comics.
Problem-solving questions: Asking thought-provoking questions to stimulate independent
thinking. For example, "What would happen if a city lost electricity?"
Text analysis: Reading stories or articles and identifying the main idea while analyzing the
author's perspective.Experiments and discussions: Conducting small experiments and discussing
the results in class.
Developing Collaboration Skills (Cooperation)
Group projects: Assigning students to small groups to complete joint tasks, such as creating a
poster about nature or conducting a scientific project.
Collaborative storytelling: Students take turns adding sentences to a group-written story.
Peer teaching: Stronger students explain topics to others, reinforcing both their own knowledge
and group collaboration.
Analysis and Findings.
The 4K model simplifies and enhances the learning process because it
creates an interactive environment where students influence each other. Applying this innovative
approach does not require additional funding, special conditions, or other resources—only
qualified teachers and engaged students.International experiences show that countries ranking
high in global education ratings, such as Singapore, China, and Finland, place special emphasis
on the skills included in the 4K model. This is why they achieve remarkable success in global
rankings like PISA and PIRLS. The 4K model goes beyond rote memorization and basic
reading/writing skills, fostering essential life competencies.
Conclusion and Recommendations.
In summary, incorporating the 4K model in primary school
lessons leads to the following outcomes:
Enriches the learning experience
Expands students’ cognitive abilities
Increases motivation for learning
Provides opportunities for personal growth and worldview development
Improves information exchange efficiency
Equips students with essential life skills
Promotes positive interactions among diverse cultural and socio-economic groups
Collaboration in education encourages mutual support, teamwork, and independent thinking.
Ultimately, this model helps fulfill society’s demand for competent, cooperative, problem-
solving, and critical-thinking individuals who can confidently express and defend their ideas.
