Annotation:

This research paper discusses the first novel “Three Roots” by the famous writer

Pirimkul Kadyrov and its artistic merit. The content and essence of the work is evidenced by the

words of the characters and the opinions of critics.

Key words:

novel, hero, artist, artistry, socialist system, character, student, teacher, history,

author, work.

There are works in which the author can fully express his artistry, and he remains an

immortal artist of the word even when he writes only this work. That is, his work can be freely

assessed only through thus work. There are huge number of such works in Uzbek literature. For

example, Kodiriy’s “By gone days”, Chulpon’s “Night and day”, Abdulla Kahhor’s “Mirage”,

Said Ahmad’s “Horizon”, Utkir Hoshimov’s “Work of the world”. The novel “Three Roots” by

the people’s writer of Uzbekistan the brilliant artist Pirimkul Kadyrov, is one of such timeless

works. The novel tells university life, students and intellectuals, as well as, the era of the

authoritarian regime that reigned in the mid twentieth century and its difficulties. During the

discussion, the master writer Abdulla Kahhor highly praised the work, saying: “For a long time, I

have not heard the sound of the thounder in Uzbek literature. In my opinion, this work is entering

our literature like thounder and shining like lightning”. Later such great writers and literary

critics as M.Avezov, I.Sultan, R.Hodizoda and L.Bat spoke warmly about this work, and it was

widely analyzed in Uzbek literary criticism. [1]

The main character of the work, Mahkam, is the character who carries the greatest burden

in the novel. The author describes the character in a unique way. Mahkam is a hero who grew up

in difficulties from a young age. Because his childhood coincides with the war years. In the

second year of the war, his father goes to the army, and his mother, who has no profession, is left

with her two children. But despite all these difficulties, he tries to become educated and find his

place in life. During the events, he falls in love with Gavhar, the daughter of Abdurakhmon

Toshev, who was expelled from the faculty due to unjust slander. He witnesses the conflicts

happening around him. He realisez the true purpose of unjust teachers like Hakimov and

Eshonbayev, that they are using science in the wrong way. It also makes us believe that teachers

like Akbarov, Toshev and Umarov, who have been misrepresented by careerists are real people.

Sincerity, devotion to faith, pursuit of knowledge, loyalty to friends and relatives, and not being

afraid of difficulties – all of these are embodied in the image of Mahkam.

In the words of the author Pirimkul Kadyrov: “The main characters of this work were

young people of our generation, or rather, students of our university. At this point, it is necessary

to reveal a family secret. While the characters of Mahkam and Achil in the play express my own

views on life, my dreams and hopes, the characters of Gavhar and Zamira reflect the image of

my like partner, Sofiakhan, who gave me happiness. In the novel, I read the poem that the young

poet Achil Samadov recited to his teacher Temur Akbarov to my coursemates on the eve of 1950.

Therefore, I think that the feelings that were in our hearts during our student days were reflected

in the novel “Three Roots”. [2]

In addition, “Three Roots” shows the proliferation of various meetings and gatherings.

They often discussed gossip that people had said in the auditorium, in the corridor, in the

department. In the years of personality worship, meetings were a tried and tested way to find

enemies. People like Khakimov, Eshonbayev, Tursun would hold meetings and muddy the

waters, looking for enemies.

The famous critic Bakhtiyor Nazarov evaluates the author’s work as follows: “Deep

modernity, interpretation of acute and urgent issues of the time are one of the main features that

define Pirimkul Kadyrov’s work. This quality was manifested in his first major work, the novel

“Three Roots”, and for amost thirty years it has been growing, refining improving and

developing year after year, in line with the spirit of the era and the demands of the times”. [3]

“Three Roots” is written in the spirit of the best traditions of socialist realism literature. It

exudes deep love for simple, humble, honest working people. Toshev, Akbarov, Mahkam, Achil

are children of working families, and they themselves are honest, humble, hardworking people.

Although they grow up to be intellectuals – scientists, leaders, they completely retain the

qualities inherent in ordinary working people. [4]

To sum up, the writer does not limit himself to simply describing the fate of the heroes and

the complications in their lives, but also seeks to explore the meaning of life and in this way

encourages people, and naturally, primarily young people, to live a meaningful life.
