Scientific advances such as hydraulics, astronomy, and geometry laid the
foundation for the development of engineering thought. Industrial Revolution:
The development of the steam engine, electricity, and mechanical systems
opened up new horizons for technical thought. 20th century: Computer
technology, nuclear power, and automation systems laid the foundation for a
new stage in technical thought. 21st century: Artificial intelligence, IoT (Internet
of Things), and quantum computing technologies are shaping the future of
technical thought.
