Annotation.

World literature functions as a dynamic, interconnected

network where national literary traditions shape and inspire one another
through translation, fostering cultural and intellectual dialogue. Acting as a
bridge between civilizations, translation allows literary masterpieces to cross
linguistic boundaries, preserving and sharing the artistic and ideological
richness of diverse cultures. The increasing global demand for translated
literature reflects a rising curiosity about different cultures, exemplified by the
growing international interest in Uzbek works like “

Shaytanat”

In an era of rapid globalization, translation remains vital for building cross-

cultural connections, expanding knowledge, and uniting people through a shared
artistic and intellectual legacy.

Introduction.

World literature has continued to develop as a unified

organism to this day. The reason for this is that the literature of one nation
cannot be studied in isolation from the literature of other nations. Therefore,
peoples living in different regions of the world establish mutual relations by
using the skills of translators and masters of words to translate national
literatures and arts.

The ability to convey cultural wealth, centuries-old aspirations, and various

ideological perspectives reflected in literary works from one language to
another is direct evidence that translation serves as a means of communication
between people. In the history of world civilization, the XX th century has been
recognized as "the age of translation"[13]

Artistic literature, recognized as masterpieces in world literature, is

exchanged through translation. There has never been a pure language that has
remained unchanged in terms of culture and literature without translation,
relying solely on its internal resources for development.

Research methodology.

Deprived of translation, the immortal art and

science created by great figures of humanity and national cultures would not
have spread widely. Eugene A. Nida and Charles R. Taber emphasize that

translation primarily consists of reproducing in the receptor language the
closest natural equivalent of the source-language message, first in terms of
meaning and second in terms of style: "

Translating consists in reproducing in the

receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source-language message,
first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style."

[5]

The demand for translating not only scientific literature but also artistic

literature is increasing in world translation centers. This, in turn, indicates a
high level of interest in the literature, language, lifestyle, and culture of the
nation that created the original text. Evaluating the quality of artistic translation
has its own unique characteristics, involving the translator's understanding of
the source text and the creative recreation of it under the influence of literary
theories.

Analysis and results.

In our country, several artistic works created by our

writers have been translated into foreign languages and continue to be
translated. For example, Tohir Malik's novel "Shaytanat" was translated into
English in 2014 by I.M. Tokhtasinov and A.A. Khamidov. This indicates the
growing interest of the world community in Uzbek literature and, through it,
Uzbek culture.

Artistic translation is a complex process of code substitution and aesthetic

reproduction. It is not merely a linguistic conversion; most importantly, it is the
experience and reproduction of beauty and the transmission of cultural
information. Therefore, a translator's ability must manifest in the lexical,
syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic aspects of artistic translation, as well as in its
aesthetic upbringing.

Both domestic and foreign scholars have conducted various scientific

research on the linguistic and extralinguistic problems of artistic translation,
interpreting the concept of artistic translation from different perspectives.

Christian Nord believes that "a translator must possess the ability to

translate various types of knowledge and use knowledge to solve these
problems."[9]

Wolfram Wilss proposed the concept of "interlingual superpower" in

relation to artistic translation. The translator's ability to comprehend speech
and fully reflect the translation process has led to the perception of translation
as an interlingual activity.[16] Scholars such as J. Vinay, J. Dalbernet, P. Skave, K.
Liu, H. Jang, P. Krings, Y. Gentzler, and A. Barcelona have explored issues related
to the reproduction of connotative meanings in artistic text translation and the
unique challenges of artistic translation.

Similarly, scholars such as Q. Musayev, M. Kholbekov, R. Shirinova, U.

Yuldoshev, Z. Teshaboyeva, D. Khoshimova, A. Sharipova, and R. Kasimova have
conducted research on the expression of stylistic synonyms, figurative tools,
phraseological units in artistic texts, as well as the representation of national
and cultural features, linguistic-stylistic, and linguistic-cultural aspects of artistic
translation, and the transmission of ethnographic elements.

The sources mentioned above categorize translation into two types: non-

artistic and artistic translation. An artistic translator must be able to convey the
theme, style, and ideas created by the author to the recipient in another
language. A comparative analysis of artistic texts in the source and target
languages helps to understand the possibilities of translation. This analysis is
carried out through several methods:

a)

Three-level analysis;

b)

Linguopoetics of artistic style;

c)

Comparative linguopoetics;

d)

Linguopoetic classification. [3]

Each of these has its own specific goals and issues. In such an analysis,

before evaluating the linguistic-poetic significance of linguistic units using
stylistic markers in the context, the semantic meaning of the linguistic units used
in the text is studied, and the information obtained from semantic and linguistic
analysis is collected at the metasemantic (linguistic) level. This method of
linguistic-poetic research—i.e., the linguopoetics of artistic style—was proposed
and elaborated in detail by O.S. Akhmanova [1] and her students to determine
the role of artistic style in creating aesthetic expressiveness in texts.

A. Carter and V. Nash emphasize that artistic elements identifiable in

artistic texts, their stylistic coloration, the additional meanings they create, and
their relevance to the text must be considered. The use of stylistic coloring in
artistic texts and their translation requires special attention, as it demands skill
and artistry. Translating artistic works requires not only linguistic knowledge
but also creative talent and familiarity with the science of poetics. Therefore,
only poets, writers, or those with an artistic sense can engage in artistic
translation. [ 2]

It would not be an exaggeration to call translation a means of raising

friendship and internationalism among nations, as translation facilitates the
exchange and enrichment of national cultures. The characteristics of translation
affect not only literature but also thought in art and language. The role of
translation in artistic literature, which is an art of words, is incomparable.

The great achievements in translation studies are evident in the translation

of world literature’s masterpieces and the literature of fraternal states into our
native language. In the current era of growing development in various fields,
materials related to literature, lyric poetry, technological terms, and various
cultural domains are being translated from multiple national literatures into the
native language. The advancement of translation contributes to the convergence
of the best customs and national values of world nations, introduces Uzbek
readers to different national literatures, and strengthens friendships among
nations. Indeed, the role of translation also extends to the popularization of
global events in technology, science, and culture.

The sacred mission of translation work is to shape the spirit of friendship

among nations and to bring the achievements of world culture, science,
technology, and social thought to our people.

Artistic translation, in particular, is not just a linguistic process but a

creative and aesthetic endeavor that requires deep comprehension of both the
source and target cultures. The works of scholars such as Eugene Nida, Christian
Nord, and Wolfram Wilss emphasize the complexity of translation, recognizing it
as an interlingual and intercultural process that involves reproducing meaning,
style, and artistic intent. The contributions of Uzbek literary figures to world
literature, such as the translation of

Shaytanat

, demonstrate the increasing

global interest in national literature and cultural heritage.

Translation fosters mutual understanding, strengthens intercultural ties,

and promotes the appreciation of diverse literary traditions. It plays a crucial
role in spreading scientific, artistic, and technological knowledge, making it a
powerful tool for intellectual and cultural advancement. In an era of
globalization, translation continues to facilitate communication between
nations, helping to build bridges of friendship and international cooperation.
Thus, translation remains an indispensable means of enriching human
civilization and uniting people through the exchange of knowledge, values, and
artistic expression.

Conclusion:

In short, translation is essential to the growth of world

literature, acting as a link between cultures and enabling nations to exchange
their literary, artistic, and intellectual contributions. Throughout history, it has
played a crucial role in safeguarding and spreading the knowledge, philosophies,
and creative expressions of various societies, ensuring the ongoing flow of
cultural exchange. The 20th century, often referred to as "the age of translation,"
