Abstract:

One of the representatives of young adult literature is Sherman

Alexie. He is a writer of short stories, novels, poems that play crucial role in
American literature. His works often explores themes related to Native
American identity, culture, and experiences, particularly focusing on life of on
the Spokane Indian Reservation.

является Шерман Алекси. Он автор рассказов, романов, поэм, которые
играют важную роль в американской литературе. Его работы часто
исследуют темы, связанные с идентичностью, культурой и опытом
коренных американцев, особенно фокусируясь на жизни в индейской
резервации Спокан.

hikoyalar, romanlar, she'rlar yozuvchisidir. Uning asarlari ko'pincha Amekining
tub joy aholisining o'ziga xosligi, madaniyati va tajribalari bilan bog'liq
mavzularni yoritgan , ayniqsa Spokan hindu qo'riqxonasidagi hayotga e'tibor
beradi.
Sherman Alexie is a prominent Native American author, poet, and filmmaker.
Born on October 7, 1966, in Washington, he is a member of the Spokane-Coeur
d'Alene tribes. Alexie’s work often explores the complexities of Native American
identity, life on reservations, and the cultural impact of colonialism. Alexie grew
up on the Spokane Indian Reservation and was diagnosed with hydrocephalus (a
condition involving fluid on the brain) as an infant.
He underwent surgery to correct this, which left him with physical challenges
and affected his early education. He attended Gonzaga University in Spokane,
where he initially studied medicine before shifting to creative writing. He later
attended the Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa, which helped
shape his career as a writer. Alexie’s collection "The Lone Ranger and Tonto
Fistfight in Heaven" (1993) is well-known for its poignant and often humorous

the reservation. “His novel "Reservation Blues" (1995) mixes magical realism
with a gritty portrayal of reservation life and follows a Native American rock
band. "Indian Killer" (1996) is a thriller that delves into racial tensions and
identity. Alexie gained considerable acclaim with "The Absolutely True Diary of
a Part-Time Indian" (2007), a semi-autobiographical novel that won the National
Book Award for Young People's Literature.”
The book tells the story of a Native American teenager who leaves his
reservation to attend an all-white high school, grappling with themes of identity
and belonging. Alexie co-wrote and produced the film "Smoke Signals" (1998),
based on his short story collection "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in
Heaven." The film, directed by Chris Eyre, was notable for being one of the first
feature films written, directed, and produced by Native Americans. Alexie
created and served as the executive producer for the television series
"Rutherford Falls" (2021), which explores issues of Native American heritage

Indian" (2007), which won the National Book Award for Young People's
Literature. The novel, based on Alexie's own experiences, follows a young Native
American boy named Arnold Spirit who leaves his reservation to attend a

"What You Pawn I Will Redeem" published in The New Yorker in 2003. It is one
of stories from Sherman Alexie’s 2003 collection, in the story the main character
Jackson’s life and his struggles with the reality of homelessness and the
challenges of life on the street were described. Cultural heritage and identity,
resilience and hope, socioeconomic struggles, community and solidarity are
main themes of the story. “Blasphemy” is a collection of New and Selected
Stories, published in 2012. This collection includes both new works and
