Introduction:
The process of teaching foreign languages is of great
importance today not only scientifically, but also socially and culturally.
Globalization and the intensification of international cooperation, the
development of information technologies, the growth of intercultural dialogue
require the development of new methods of learning and teaching foreign
languages. Changes in teaching methodologies have a long history and are aimed
at ensuring the effectiveness of language learning. Starting from traditional
methods, modern pedagogical methods, including the communicative approach,
immersive technologies, interactive teaching and the use of audiovisual tools,
provide students with effective results in the process of learning foreign
languages. This article discusses the historical changes in methodological
approaches to teaching foreign languages, the differences between yesterday's
and today's pedagogical methods, and the impact of modern approaches on the
effectiveness of language learning.
The process of teaching foreign languages has become an integral part of
the education system today. Due to globalization and technological

development, international dialogue and intercultural contacts are increasing,
which makes learning a foreign language even more important and necessary.
Learning a foreign language plays a major role not only in scientific and
academic fields, but also in professional activities. At the same time, methods
and pedagogical approaches to teaching foreign languages are constantly
developing and require updating. The transition from traditional methods to
modern approaches is considered an important issue, increasing the efficiency
of the teaching process and creating opportunities for students to use the
language in real life.
The importance of modern methods in teaching foreign languages is not
only to update the educational process, but also to create opportunities for
students to teach the language in a lively and practical way, communicate with
them and apply what they have learned in real life. There are significant
differences between yesterday's and today's pedagogical methods. If in previous
years language learning was mainly focused on mastering grammar and
expanding vocabulary, today innovative methods such as communicative
approaches, immersive technologies, interactive methods and audiovisual tools
are used in language learning.
Main part:
This article will focus on the history of the development of
modern methods used in teaching a foreign language, new approaches to their
introduction into the education system, as well as how they are effectively used
today. The article analyzes the impact of modern methods on the effectiveness of
language learning and considers the possibilities of their application in the
educational process. The importance and necessity of implementing innovative
methods in practice for foreign language teachers is also discussed.
Yesterday:
Traditional methods and their role in language teaching
Traditional methods were mainly aimed at teaching the grammatical and
lexical foundations of the language. These methods are based on the continuous
transfer and consolidation of knowledge provided by teachers to students.
Classical pedagogical approaches, including the grammar-translate method,
focused on expanding vocabulary and teaching correct pronunciation. Also,
some of these methods could create a passive approach to language in students,
making language learning monotonous and boring. However, they were very
effective in their time and became the basis for the development of today's
modern methods.
Today:

Today, foreign language teaching methods are sharply different from
traditional methods. Modern pedagogical approaches are aimed at ensuring the
activity of students, communicating with them, and teaching the language in a
real-life context.
The main goal of the communicative approach method is to use language
practically, to help students learn the language as a means of communication.
This approach is aimed at developing students' skills in expressing their
thoughts clearly, understanding and listening.
Teaching with the help of immersive technologies and virtual environments
allows students to learn the language based on real-life situations. Also,
audiovisual tools and multimedia materials make the language teaching process
interesting, dynamic and effective. Videos, interactive games, audio and video
materials interest students in learning the language and direct them to develop
practical skills, unlike the scientific approach. Modern methods encourage
students to learn independently and use the language in real situations.
The main advantage of modern methods is that they turn students into
active participants, creating an opportunity for practical language learning. Also,
the use of interactive methods and technologies makes lessons interesting and
effective. However, these methods require teachers to familiarize themselves
with new technologies and provide students with an individual approach. In
addition, some methods can be resource- and time-consuming, which can be
difficult for some educational institutions.
Conclusion:
Modern methods of teaching foreign languages are
significantly different from traditional methods, and their effectiveness is based
on the active participation of students in the language learning process, the
development of independent thinking and practical skills. Through
communicative approaches, immersive technologies, audiovisual tools and
interactive methods, the language learning process becomes not only
interesting, but also more effective. These methods encourage students to use
the language in practice, thereby developing their communication skills.
However, the successful use of modern methods requires the qualification of
teachers, the introduction of pedagogical innovations and taking into account
the individual needs of students. In conclusion, modern methods of teaching a
foreign language can increase the effectiveness of language teaching, further
improve the education system and help educate young people who will
successfully operate in global communication.
