In the modern world, connecting children with nature is becoming

increasingly important. As a result of urbanization, the widespread use of
technology, and excessive use of screen time, many children are being cut off
from nature and deprived of the opportunity to get acquainted with its wonders.
Therefore, effective methods are being sought to instill a love and understanding
of nature from an early age. Games are seen as an important tool in this process,
because play is a natural and interesting form of learning for children.

Through

games, children have the opportunity to learn about nature not only by seeing
and hearing, but also by feeling and experiencing it. This article analyzes the
benefits, methods, and expected results of using games to introduce children to
nature from a scientific perspective.

The pedagogical importance of games

Play is one of the most important factors in children's development.

Research by psychologists, notably Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky, shows that
through play, children develop cognitive, social, and emotional skills. Nature-
based play adds environmental awareness to this process. For example, an
outdoor treasure hunt teaches children about tree species, plants, or animal
tracks. Such play stimulates children's curiosity and builds a sense of respect for

nature. Studies show that children who regularly interact with nature have
lower stress levels and better concentration (Loew, 2005).

Types of games to introduce children to nature
A variety of games can be used to introduce children to nature. Here are

some of them:

Nature discovery games:

Children are given the task of finding and classifying objects in nature

(leaves, stones, bird sounds). This increases their observation skills.
Role-playing games:

Children learn about the life cycle of plants or animals by playing the role of

plants or animals. For example, the game “I am a butterfly” explains the process
of metamorphosis.

Creative games:

Creating works of art from natural materials (horns, stones, clay) develops

children’s imagination and strengthens their sense of closeness to nature. Such
games not only provide children with knowledge, but also strengthen their
emotional connection with nature.

Results achieved through games

Nature-based games bring about a number of positive changes in children.

Firstly, they increase environmental awareness. During the game, children
understand the fragility of nature and the need to preserve it. Secondly, they
encourage physical activity. Playing outdoors develops children’s motor skills
and has a positive effect on their health. Thirdly, they strengthen social skills, as
many games require participation in a group. For example, the game "Nature
Detectives" encourages children to solve problems together. At the same time,
the learning process through games is interesting and knowledge is acquired
naturally.

Using games to introduce children to nature is not only an effective but also

a necessary method. Games arouse children's interest and teach them the beauty
and importance of nature. This process, along with forming their ecological
awareness, also contributes to their physical, mental and social development.
Therefore, parents, teachers and educators should more widely introduce
nature-based games into the educational process. The effective use of games to
educate the future generation as nature lovers and protectors is one of the
important tasks of today.
