Ángel Boligan. "The New Faces of Politics" (2017).

The work "New Faces of Politics" represents a sharp critical approach to

contemporary politics in the style of a political pamphlet. The central focus of the piece
is the image of a politician delivering a speech, with their head depicted as a multi-
layered mask

1

. The masks are directed towards the public with a false smile, while the

face itself is dark, and the real face is hidden, symbolizing the duplicity of politicians
and their exaggerated promises. The use of monochrome colors intensifies the drama
and emphasizes the tension. Ángel Boligan criticizes politicians who focus on lies and
appearances

2

. The irony of the work lies in the fact that these "new faces" serve to

conceal old problems, urging society to engage in deeper analysis and change.
Boligan’s piece not only sheds light on the complexities of Mexican politics but also
highlights the discrepancies between the image and reality of political leaders on a
global scale.

Ángel Boligan. "The Given Bribe" (2018). Ángel Boligan. "Red
Democracy" (2024).

In these two works, "The Given Bribe" and "Red Democracy," each element

serves as a critical political pamphlet directed at those in power. The first work, "The
Given Bribe," depicts the head of a high-ranking official as the head of a crow, with an
individual in front of him consuming the rights of the people in inhuman ways.
Through this image, the work sharply criticizes this process, symbolizing the ordinary
people who are being exploited

3

. In the second work, a small girl holds a piece of paper

symbolizing democracy, yet she is looking at a large, dark, gloomy landscape. A voting
box is connected to a sickly system, and atop it, rats, snakes, black rebels, and crows
sit in power. This imagery suggests that democracy is artificially supported, but in
reality, it is in a dire state. In this piece, Boligan expresses how the forces around the
democratic system are manipulating it for their own interests, reducing elections and
democracy to mere symbolic gestures

4

. The word "red" in the title of the work may

refer to a democracy soaked in blood, repression, or oppression, pointing to regimes in
many societies that dominate the freedom of the people.

Ángel Boligan. "The End of War" (2018). Ángel Boligan. "A Lot of Noise"
(2025)

Ángel Boligan critiques the actions of U.S. President Donald Trump in

international politics through the style of a political pamphlet. In the first piece titled
"The End of War," Trump is depicted hugging North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. This
artwork symbolizes Trump's approach to dictators, portraying his affinity for them in
this manner

5

. In the second piece, titled "A Lot of Noise," Trump is shown playing a

drum. Through this, Ángel Boligan expresses that Trump’s political actions create a
noise and tension that shakes the entire world. Both pieces, each from a unique
perspective, critique Trump’s political maneuvers

6

. Through these works, Boligan

attempts to convey complex and sometimes contradictory political situations to the
broader public in a simple and understandable way.

Conclusion.

Ángel Boligan's political works sharply criticize the hypocrisy and

manipulations of political leaders. His pieces reflect the complex contradictions in
politics and the artificially supported systems, helping society better understand the
political landscape. Through his art, Boligan exposes real political problems and urges
society to engage in deeper analysis. Studying his works serves as an important tool
for understanding the deceit of political leaders and the social issues within modern
politics.
