Abstract:
Early English language acquisition is significantly influenced by family
involvement, as parents and caregivers play a crucial role in shaping a child's linguistic
development. This study explores the impact of parental engagement in children's English
learning through various activities such as storytelling, interactive conversations, and
exposure to English media. The research highlights how a supportive home environment
enhances vocabulary development, pronunciation, and overall language proficiency.
Moreover, the study examines challenges parents face, including limited language skills
and lack of educational resources, while also suggesting effective strategies to enhance
family participation. Findings indicate that active parental involvement fosters a more
natural and confident language acquisition process, reinforcing the importance of early
exposure to English within the family setting.

Introduction
The role of family involvement in early childhood education, particularly in language
acquisition, is pivotal. This paper examines how parents' engagement in early English
language learning influences a child's linguistic development. Studies have shown that a
supportive family environment can greatly enhance language skills during the critical
early years of language learning. By understanding the mechanisms through which family
involvement works, this research aims to provide insight into best practices for fostering
language acquisition in children.

The study investigates the impact of
parental involvement
self-
efficacy
and
learner autonomy
in learning English. The research involved 204 students
from Surabaya and their parents. The students filled out questionnaires to assess their
levels of self-efficacy and learner autonomy, while parents completed separate
questionnaires to evaluate their children's participation in learning English at home.
The findings revealed that active parental involvement positively influenced
students' self-efficacy and learner autonomy. This supports
Bandura's triadic reciprocal
determinism
theory, which emphasizes the interaction between personal factors,
behavior, and environmental influences.
Methodology
This study adopts a mixed-methods approach to examine the effect of parental
involvement on students' self-efficacy and learner autonomy in learning English. The
research involved 204 students, aged 7 to 10, and their parents from Surabaya, selected
through convenience sampling.
Data was collected through questionnaires, surveys, and interviews. Students
completed questionnaires assessing their self-efficacy and learner autonomy in English,
while parents filled out surveys to evaluate their involvement in supporting their children's
English learning at home. Additionally, semi-structured interviews were conducted with
a small group of parents and teachers to gain further insights into the challenges and
strategies related to parental involvement.
The collected quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and
correlation analysis to explore the relationship between parental involvement and the
students' language learning outcomes. The qualitative data from the interviews were
analyzed using thematic analysis to identify common themes regarding parental support
and its impact.
Ethical approval for the study was obtained, and informed consent was collected
from both students and parents to ensure confidentiality and voluntary participation. [2,
22].
Findings and Discussion
This study found that
parental involvement
significantly enhances students'
self-
efficacy
and
learner autonomy
in English language learning. Students whose parents
were actively engaged in their education reported higher levels of confidence and self-
reliance in learning English. This aligns with Bandura's self-efficacy theory, which
emphasizes the importance of external support in building confidence.
The study also revealed that students whose parents promoted independent learning
by providing resources like books and online tools demonstrated more autonomy in their
learning process. These findings support the idea that parental encouragement helps foster
independent learners.

However, challenges such as
language barriers
and
time constraints
were
identified. Many parents struggled to assist due to their limited English proficiency, and
busy work schedules made consistent involvement difficult. This mirrors findings from
previous studies, highlighting the need for targeted support for parents.
To overcome these challenges, it is recommended that schools provide more
resources and training for parents to enhance their involvement. Better communication
between schools and families could also improve students' learning outcomes. [3, 15].
Conclusion and Recommendations
This study emphasizes the significant role of
parental involvement
in promoting
self-efficacy
and
learner autonomy
in English language learning. Active parental support
positively influences students' confidence and their ability to learn independently. Despite
the challenges faced by parents, such as
language barriers
and
time constraints
, the
overall impact of parental involvement remains largely positive. [4, 25].
Recommendations
:
Based on the findings, the study recommends the following actions:
1.
School Support
: Schools should provide training and resources to parents,
helping them engage effectively in their children's learning, even if they have limited
English proficiency.
2.
Parent-Teacher Communication
: Strengthening communication between
3.
Flexible Resources
: Schools could create accessible online platforms
offering learning materials and guidance for parents, enabling them to support their
4.
Encourage Independent Learning
: Schools should encourage and guide
parents to promote learner autonomy, helping students become more independent in their
English language learning.
By addressing these recommendations, schools can create a more supportive
environment for both students and parents, leading to improved learning outcomes.
