STYLISTIC DEVICES FOR EXPRESSING EMOTIONS IN "OLIVER TWIST"

This article explores the main stylistic devices employed by Charles
Dickens in "Oliver Twist" to express emotions. By analyzing the use of symbolism, irony,
and dialogue, this study aims to highlight how these devices contribute to the emotional
depth of the narrative and enhance the reader's engagement with the text.

characters. This article will examine how symbolism, irony, and dialogue function as
crucial tools for emotional expression within the narrative.
Symbolism
Dickens employs symbolism extensively to evoke emotions and convey deeper
meanings. For instance, the character of Oliver represents the innocence and vulnerability
of children in Victorian society. Various symbols throughout the novel, such as the
contrasting settings of the workhouse and the streets of London, illustrate the harsh realities
