Due to globalization and increasing migration, multilingual societies are becoming more
common worldwide. In such contexts, effective and culturally respectful communication is
essential to fostering mutual understanding, tolerance, and social harmony. Each language
carries with it a unique worldview, cultural values, and a system of norms. Therefore,
understanding and applying appropriate speech etiquette is a foundation for successful
communication across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Speech etiquette is one of the key indicators of a person’s cultural level. In multilingual
environments, it takes on added significance, as expressions or tones acceptable in one language
may be perceived as rude or inappropriate in another.

Key components of cultural communication in a multilingual society include:
•
Respect for languages
– Making efforts to greet or address people in their native
language when possible shows cultural sensitivity.
•
Tone and div language
– Non-verbal communication, such as gestures and intonation,
varies between cultures and must be used thoughtfully.
•
Tolerance and patience
– Understanding that people express themselves differently and
accepting their unique ways of communication is essential.
In such societies, educational systems, media, and state policies play an important role in
shaping communicative culture. Introducing intercultural communication skills in curricula, and
promoting inclusive dialogue in public platforms, can help strengthen social unity.
Conclusion:
Speech etiquette and cultural communication are not just linguistic concepts, but vital tools
for ensuring social stability, mutual respect, and harmony in multilingual societies. When
individuals understand and follow the norms of respectful communication, society as a whole
benefits through increased cooperation and understanding.
