Nowadays, learning foreign languages is becoming popular among young people.
Particularly, the demand for learning English is growing. During the language
learning process, of course, there are various challenges in learning new foreign
languages. As a result, which encourages us to work more on this issue and find new
effective and easy ways to learn a foreign language. There are numerous aspects to
teaching a language. A teacher not only instructs and monitors students' language
abilities, such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking, but also assists, enables,
and encourages students' passion, positive attitudes, and motivation for English.
Consequently, I would want to give information regarding typical language learning
challenges and their remedies.
Psychological issues are a common misconception among students that English is
the most difficult subject. The outcome, as well as the failure candidates, serve as
proof of this. As a result, the majority of pupils have a prejudiced view of this subject
and suffer the anxiety throughout the year. Poor performance at the end of the year is
the outcome of psychological depression. Moreover, psychological problems are a
widespread misunderstanding amongst students that English the most difficult of all
subjects. The result and the failure candidates act as evidence to prove this fact. Hence,
most of the students look at this subject with a prejudiced vision and bear the fear
through the year. The psychological depression results in poor performance at the end
of the year. Learning methods is also one of the causes for the decline in English
teaching standards is that teachers are unable to distinguish between teaching
literature and teaching language skills. Everyone understands that learning a language
is not a goal in and of itself, but rather a method to improve one's ability to express
oneself and comprehend what is being said. Furthermore, lack of practice is also
causes problems in language learning .Language could be mastered by practicing all
the four skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing. The rural surrounding does not
allow the learner to practice any of these skills. The lack of audio tools also adds in
the problem of lack of practice. Many teachers are unable to teach English effectively
because they face lot of problems due to the lack of teaching aids. There are very few
audio-visual aids available and it is insufficient for the teachers to use it effectively.
Some are so costly that the colleges can only afford to buy few.

Differences in English: - English is pronounced differently than practically every
other language on the planet. There is a distinct accent in every location of the world
where English is spoken. When teaching English as a second language, keep in mind
that your students will not be able to tell the difference between US English, Queen's
English, and the rest of the world's English. This may cause some confusion. Lack of
Practice: - Language could be mastered by practicing all the four skills: Listening,
Speaking, Reading, Writing. The rural surrounding does not allow the learner to
practice any of these skills. The lack of audio tools also adds in the problem of lack
of practice. Many teachers are unable to teach English effectively because they face
lot of problems due to the lack of teaching aids. There are very few audio-visual aids
available and it is insufficient for the teachers to use it effectively. Some are so costly
that the colleges can only afford to buy few. Lack of Interest: - Learning English being
compelled has merely become a hurdle in passing. Students only concentrate on
passing marks. They do not care for leaning the language as a tool of communication.
Teacher and the taught both look at this subject as an unavoidable hurdle and try their
level best to cross this hurdle any how. Lack of Motivation: - in learning a second or
a foreign language, motivation is the crucial force which determines whether the
learner embarks on a task at all, how much energy he devotes to it and how long he
perseveres. It is known as a complex phenomenon and includes many components,
such as, the individual’s drive, need for achievement and success, curiosity, desire for
stimulation and new experience, and so on. Mistakes in English: - Most of the
mistakes are made unknowingly i.e. when making a mistake becomes habitual; we
keep making the same mistake even without realizing it. If we study this problem in
a scientific manner by trying to know what is the actual cause behind making the
mistake we would be able to avoid it. Crowded classes: - According to the data
gathered, respondents generally experience issues with classroom teaching
implementation. They are all hoping for a pleasant learning environment. What
transpired was completely unexpected. The number of students in language classes
should be kept at a minimum. However, because there are 50 or more kids in the
classroom, it does not produce an optimal environment. However, this can be avoided
by splitting pupils into groups or pairs. According to Johnson (1994: 185), there are
three advantages to grouping students: 1. Creating an environment that encourages
students to interact with one another. 2. Shift the student culture away from individual
work and toward group work.
Some methods are being developed to solve similar language learning problems.
We can add following solutions to them. Building a Rapport with Your Class: - When
you enter the class for the first time it is very important that you give a welcoming
smile to your students and greet them. Your assuring smile and greeting them in a
familiar manner helps them bond with you instantly. When they bon with you, they
will find learning the language easier. Remember a smile alway welcomes people to
interact with you. Besides that , define the location of English: - Everyone can benefit
from learning English. The position of English in our educational system should be
clearly established. This should be decided in light of its wide range of applications
and opportunities in science, technology, social sciences, philosophy, area studies,
30
journalism, international trade, and diplomacy. What’s more, applying different
methods of teaching: -The teacher while teaching English should use the different
methods of teaching English to the students. The teacher can also make use of the
language lab. Some of the methods of teaching English are as follows:
Grammar-Translation Method
Direct Method
Bilingual Method
The Structural Method
The Communicative Method
Situational Method
Improvement in teaching facilities: - Special efforts should be made to ensure that
teachers get proper teaching facilities, including space, books and teaching aids. The
school and the college libraries should subscribe good journals which may enable
them to know the latest developments in the field of linguistics and English language
teaching. Additionally, end the socio-psychological problems: - Many think English
as the most difficult language and many call it unnecessary to learn it. The efforts of
the teacher should be in eradicating the socio- psychological problems of the students,
by motivating them and giving them some responsibility. Make Students Think in
English: - make it a very firm rule but subtly implied that there will be no other
language spoken in your class other than English. Exhort them to think in English.
This a mammoth task, and can be achieved only after some weeks or probably months
of teaching. Building communication skills: - Never teach your students always speak
with them. Converse with the students about day-to-day things. Keep talking with
them in wimple English. They will talk when the initial icebreakers are done with.
And when they will talk, they will learn. Encourage your students to talk. As long as
the students attempts to talk in English make it a point to listen. Also, handling
mistakes with care: - In class, you will make mistakes, and you must learn to handle
them gracefully. If you make fun of the kids, they will be too humiliated to try
speaking the language again. Students will believe you are simply being too nice to
them if you do not laugh, and they will constantly believe they have said something
wrong while you are disguising your enjoyment.
In conclusion, teaching English as a second language can be a lot of fun. You must
also make it enjoyable for your students in order for them to study more effectively.
Learning a foreign language is exciting, but it cannot be accomplished in a matter of
months. Learning a foreign language allows a person to speak with people from all
over the world. They can also access foreign knowledge sources such as books,
articles, and videos. However, some people believe that studying a foreign language
at university is a viable alternative for students. However, learning a foreign language,
in my opinion, is essential for all university students for at least two years because it
can help them expand their knowledge by learning about other cultures, the world,
31
and beyond, gain future job advantages, and become smarter by improving the
functionality of their brains. Some people, however, believe that studying a second
language is a chore, particularly for university students. Before completing their
studies, university students must learn numerous disciplines linked to the course and
receive credits in all of them. The amount of credit hours that students must take will
increase if they take a foreign language topic for at least two years. Hopefully, there
are some useful methods for lowering the barriers to learning. First and foremost, you
must immerse yourself as much as possible in the language you are learning.
To summarize, learning a new language can be challenging for a variety of reasons,
including difficulty in comprehending and speaking, but employing specific tactics
can help us overcome these obstacles.
