The study provides a broad overview of expected English language learning outcomes for
students. Compared to other subjects in school, greater emphasis has been placed on learning English
as a second language. This shift is attributed to a government policy emphasizing the importance of
English language mastery, indirectly elevating the language's societal status. Consequently, students
must prepare themselves to compete and utilize English in their future careers.
This indicates that they must be skilled in the language. Proficiency in the English language is
not solely about mastering grammar, vocabulary, and language skills; it is primarily about the
capacity to comprehend and utilize the language in diverse contexts to create something valuable.
This should be the ultimate goal of English language education for our students. Therefore, educators
should explore alternative methods to make English language instruction more engaging and foster
students' capacity for critical thinking and application of language. Employing creative or higher-
order thinking is the most effective approach for enhancing students' ability to think and use the
language.
Several characteristics of creative thinking have important implications for the teaching and
learning of FL. Current methodologies call for the development and support of higher cognitive
processes of students. According to Bloom’s taxonomy, higher thinking operations belong to the most
valuable and need to be developed through various educational practices, in particular subjects at
school. Language lessons provide plenty of opportunities to enhance critical thinking and creative
processes. This paper presents practical teaching techniques tips and activities that can be used with
various age groups. Moreover, these can be adapted according to different language proficiency
levels. [3; 142]
An added advantage of fostering creative thinking skills when learning a foreign language is
that numerous tasks that teachers want students to accomplish, such as comparing and contrasting,
hypothesizing, or creating, are actually creative thinking tasks. Since creative thinkers are better
equipped to handle these tasks, incorporating efforts to develop creative thinking skills can be
seamlessly integrated into the overall teaching and learning of foreign languages.
Classroom FLT activities offer students multiple opportunities to become independent learners,
share their ideas, reflect upon their learning, and engage in extended, unrehearsed communication
with peers and teachers. Using authentic English materials, students are able to “present their
thinking and research in much the same manner as they will be called upon to do in their future

academic and professional lives” [1;56]. There are different ways, forms, and techniques to develop
critical thinking skills. They are any forms of active learning based on using different cognitive
processes that make students cooperate, such as discussions, debates, projects, case studies
simulating real-life or future probable professional situations, conferences, writing essays, etc. They
engage different levels of the cognitive domain, such as understanding, analyzing, evaluating, and
creating (Bloom’s taxonomy of cognitive domains). They employ high-order thinking skills to
activate and apply prior knowledge to predict events or actions that may happen or be caused in future,
analyze to determine the nature or relationship, synthesize to produce and combine, compare and
contrast to note similarities and differences, evaluate and consider something carefully to decide
whether it is good or bad, etc.
Enhancing creative thinking in children is beneficial as it fosters the development of skills
essential for their intellectual and emotional growth. One of the most crucial abilities a child can
cultivate is creative thinking, which becomes an invaluable lifelong skill. This skill equips young
individuals to effectively address complex, ambiguous challenges that are progressively significant
in a swiftly changing world. Although these skills can be developed in all subject areas, they are
especially paramount in foreign language learning. Learning a language involves a complex series of
communication skills which the creative thinker is more likely to use with confidence. Creative
students can often understand and solve problems in FL classes better than less creative students.
They are also more open to new ideas and are often less constrained by existing habits in problem-
solving.
The development of creative thinking skills is essential for turning creative potential into
creative performance. That is, if creative skills are deliberately, consciously and voluntarily fostered,
each individual will be able to convert his or her creative potential into creative behaviour.
In this respect, the development of creative skills must be personal and voluntary, but it must
also be stimulated by the educational context. From a didactic point of view, creativity is a concept
that should be addressed curriculum in the objectives, as formative content, as a strategy, in learning
activities and assessment. If not, it is reduced to a mere aspiration for a good social reception.
The techniques that can assist in fostering creativity in FLT.Story writing. This strategy
encourages imagination by the development of stories and provides the description of different ways
for it. Some of these ideas are: creating stories from a word or a randomly selected image, changing
the main character of a familiar story, transforming traditional stories by introducing changes to its
continuation or ending, imagining a fantastic character and creating a story from this character (e.g.,
a man of glass; a man of iron), setting riddles and metaphors of their characteristics, using analogies,
synectics, etc.
Method of the Six Thinking Hats. This method tries to stimulate simultaneously six different
ways of thinking related to the symbolic use of six different hats, including The white hat is neutral
and objective. It relates to the facts, data and objectives. The red hat suggests anger and emotions. It
provides an emotional standpoint. The black hat is sombre and serious. Is cautious and careful, says
the weaknesses and difficulties of the ideas. The yellow hat is cheerful and positive. It includes
optimistic hope and positive thinking. The green hat symbolizes abundant, fertile growth and new
ideas. The blue hat is cool and symbolizes the colour of the sky that is above all. It relates to the
control, organization of thought processes and the use of other hats. One could assume that this hat
symbolises the use of metacognition.
Design Thinking. Design thinking offers teachers needed support and skills. Design is a process
of “making” solutions, and a well-recognized by-product of creative confidence and self-efficacy.
Design thinking is an iterative process that repeatedly reformulates a problem to find its core and then
analyses possible solutions to find the most favourable, allowing for the formation of ‘creative
bridges’ between problems and solutions [2]. Thus, both analytical thinking and divergent creative
thinking are key to design processes, working through five core design thinking skills: Empathising,
Defining Problems, Ideating, Prototyping, and Testing.

This model stresses the importance of developing creative thinking skills in problem-solving,
applying creative strategies in those processes that require a divergent, productive or idea-generating
style of thinking and more analytical and evaluative strategies in those phases of the process that
require more conventional or convergent thinking, aimed at finding a suitable response or its final
elaboration. Throughout the process, metacognitive skills involved in problem-solving are proposed.
In this sense, there is some recent research on the implication of metacognition for the development
of creativity [2]
Provide opportunities for reflection: Encourage individuals to reflect on their creative processes
and the results of their creative efforts. This can help individuals learn from their experiences and
improve their creative skills.
Provide tools and resources: Provide individuals with access to tools, materials, and resources
that can help them express their creativity. This can include art supplies, technology, or other
resources that can facilitate creative expression.
Model creativity: Be a role model for creativity by demonstrating your own creative processes
and approaches. This can inspire others to think more creatively and try new things.
In conclusion, developing creative thinking skills in foreign language learning is crucial for
students to become proficient in the language and succeed in their future careers. It is a skill that can
be developed through various methods such as exploration, creative activities, brainstorming, real-
world challenges, and a supportive environment. By integrating these paths into teaching and
learning, teachers can encourage students to think beyond the language learned and apply their skills
in different scenarios. Moreover, by enhancing creative thinking skills, students can develop essential
intellectual and emotional growth skills that will be useful throughout their lifetime. Therefore, it is
vital to foster creativity in foreign language learning and provide students with the necessary tools to
become proficient in the language and think creatively.

There are some more types of speaking activities that serve not only to create an opportunity to
boost speaking in the classroom, but also to form a close bond between the teacher and students
improving their morality also. It is a way of using valuable treasure of our ancestors, stories and
legends in teaching to advance all language modes altogether. Like other types of speaking activities,
role play and simulation, there is no precise and clear definition for storytelling, despite the fact that
there are some descriptions given by some authors. According to the Tingoy, Guneser, Ongun,
