THEOIRIES AND METHODS
A proverb is a sentence that expresses the meaning of a sentence with the help of a clear and
short conclusion, forms a grammatical form of a sentence, and describes the general meaning
in a figurative way. S.I. Ojegova defines a proverb in his explanatory dictionary as
follows: "A proverb is a folk oral aphorism in a short form of an example, and matal gives a
metaphorical expression like a proverb and is mainly in the form of a complete sentence."
Folklorist V. I. Dal says that proverbs are a product of folk oral communication, "to study
proverbs and sayings, you need to study folk art. No proverbs and sayings are formed without
obeying the rules of linguistics, but appear in the course of people's daily life in
communication.
In the 20th century, in addition to literary studies, folklore studies, proverbs and proverbs,
through linguistic approaches, attract the attention of researchers to expressions related
to linguistic studies, philosophy, and the psychology of peoples. Research scientists V.G.
Kostomarov, E.M. In his scientific works, Vereshchagin clarified the linguistic and cultural
features and cultural components of the problem of learning proverbs and sayings. From the
linguistic and cultural point of view, proverbs and sayings are inextricably linked with
external factors: people's culture, history, everyday life, etc. Regional studies and auxiliary
semantic methods (national-cultural semantics) help in the study of proverbs and sayings.
Linguists E.V. Chudin and Yu.I. Moiseev classifies the functions of proverbs and matals as
follows:
1. According to the task of attracting the listener's attention: against the background of
a neutral context, imagery, generalization of meaning, didactic meaning, the formation of
attention and the internal possibility of proverbs help to form a speech;
2. According to the task of distinguishing the communicative elements of the speech:
conveying the figurative meaning to the listener in connection with the function of attracting
attention;
