Abstract:

Listening comprehension is a fundamental skill for language learners,

especially at the B2 level, where they are required to understand complex and fast-
paced spoken discourse. This paper explores interactive techniques that can enhance
students' listening skills by making lessons more engaging, dynamic, and effective. The
study highlights pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening activities, as well as
the role of technology in improving listening proficiency.

Listening is one of the essential components of language learning, enabling

learners to grasp meaning from spoken texts, engage in conversations, and enhance
their overall communication skills. However, many students at the B2 level face
difficulties in understanding authentic audio materials due to speed, accent variations,
and complex vocabulary. To address these challenges, interactive teaching techniques

Introduction

Significant transformations are occurring in education today, impacting nearly all

aspects of the pedagogical process. Among these, the development of students'
communication skills, particularly in foreign languages, plays a crucial role. Effective
communication in a second language not only enhances cognitive abilities but also
facilitates global interaction and career opportunities. One of the major challenges in
learning a foreign language is achieving fluency in oral communication. While learners
often grasp grammatical structures and vocabulary through traditional methods, real-
life speaking proficiency requires interactive and immersive approaches. In this
context, it is essential for educators to implement strategies that improve speaking
competence by integrating innovative teaching methods. This paper explores various
techniques to enhance speaking skills in English, particularly at the B2 level, where
learners are expected to communicate fluently and confidently. By analyzing different
pedagogical approaches, this study aims to provide practical solutions for overcoming
common obstacles in language learning and confidently. By analyzing different

pedagogical approaches, this study aims to provide practical solutions for overcoming
common obstacles in language learning and ensuring effective communication in
diverse linguistic settings.

Pre-Listening Techniques

Pre-listening activities aim to prepare students for the listening task by activating

background knowledge, introducing key vocabulary, and setting expectations. Some
effective techniques include:

- **Prediction Tasks**: Students analyze images, titles, or key phrases to

anticipate the content.

- **Brainstorming**: Discussions related to the topic help students recall prior

knowledge.

- **Vocabulary Preview**: Teachers introduce key words to facilitate

comprehension.

While-Listening Techniques

While-listening activities ensure that learners stay engaged and actively process

the information they hear. These techniques help students focus on key details and
improve their comprehension skills.

- **Gap-Fill Exercises**: Students listen for specific words or phrases to

complete missing information.

- **Multiple-Choice Questions**: This method helps assess students'

understanding of main ideas.

- **Listening for Specific Information**: Learners focus on dates, names,

numbers, or key concepts.

Post-Listening Techniques

Post-listening activities reinforce understanding and encourage critical thinking.

These exercises help students reflect on the listening material and apply their
knowledge.

- **Summarization**: Students write or discuss the main points of the listening

passage.

- **Role-Playing**: Learners reenact conversations to practice intonation and

pronunciation.

- **Debate and Discussion**: Students express opinions based on the content they

listened to.

The Role of Technology in Teaching Listening

With advancements in digital learning, technology plays a significant role in

improving listening comprehension. Some effective tools include:

- **Podcasts and Audiobooks**: Authentic materials provide exposure to

different accents and speech rates.

- **Interactive Apps**: Platforms like BBC Learning English and TED-Ed offer

engaging listening exercises.

- **Online Assessments**: Tools like Kahoot! and Quizizz make listening tasks

interactive and enjoyable.

Conclusion

Interactive techniques in teaching listening are essential for B2-level students to

develop their comprehension skills. By incorporating pre-listening, while-listening,
and post-listening activities, as well as utilizing technology, teachers can create an
engaging and effective learning environment. These strategies help students overcome
listening challenges and become more confident in their ability to understand spoken
English.
