Annotation.
The thesis is aimed at analyzing effective approaches in teaching
and learning foreign languages and the ways to improve environmental, emotional
and educational aspects in teaching. The components of successful lesson such as
teacher
’
s and students
’
role at the lesson, resources used in the course, milestones in
successful language class are described here.
Key words:
foreign languages, learning process, student-centered
technologies, effectiveness, environment
RELEVANCE
As it is well known, there is such called Health Triangle, where physical,
social, and mental health is included. Each of those has the influence on each
other. The same we can say about learning process and triangle in it. This kind of
triangle also consists of three sides: Student
–
Teacher
–
Teaching Material. Each
of them is significant and has its own functions, tasks and aims.
It won
’
t be surprising if we underline that the leading part in such a process
belongs to student, i.e. student is in the focus of any learning/teaching process.
Teacher and his/her resources are just assisting components in achieving
student
’
s aims.
The purpose of the thesis
is to analyze the ways to improve the work of
English teachers to develop students
’
progress in learning a Foreign language.
MATERIALS
Years of experience and love for work are the sources of the ideas in the
thesis. Students of various ages and level in language were analyzed and
described in the paper to develop the theme.
Teacher as a conductor.
It must be noted that the role of the teacher is crucial and influential.
Materials choice, audience, their age, field of knowledge, the place and time of the
lessons are key points the teacher starts his/her work. Learning a foreign
language is different from others and includes much more barriers for students,
so teacher is one who is to create the environment for successful cooperation with
students to overwhelm the difficulties. A good trainer has to gain much: ability to
organize the lesson, to conduct the lesson using both verbal and nonverbal skills
in communication with students, ability to instruct students correctly, follow
students
’
progress, give feedback to each step of the lesson. Individual approach
in teaching is also of great importance.

ENVIRONMENT
Most methods and techniques in modern teaching are concentrated on the
students both individually and in groups. Interactive tasks require students to be
dynamic, responsive, curious. To do such tasks is not always as easy as it sounds.
Even the great extraverts sometimes are at a loss to cooperate in group work or
in pairs if the environment is not friendly and outgoing at the lesson. Try to ease
the tasks as much as possible, choose the materials according to the knowledge
level, make them clear, interesting, involving. In this way you will have student-
centered atmosphere and get results at each lesson, step by step. You will reach
your main goal in this process
–
mutual understanding, students
’
interest in your
subject and progress in students
’
learning a foreign language.
How to create such a climate at the lesson is a question for some young
teachers of a foreign language. It is up to the teacher
’
s voice mode, mood,
nonverbal skills, organization of the lesson. Do remember that a good lesson plan
is 70% of your lesson success. Your lesson will always be successful if you plan it.
The stages of the lesson should be correlated and leading to the aim of your lesson.
Do remember that theoretical part of the lesson is usually boring but significant
for practical one. So, try to make it shorter and clear.Make practical part longer
and suitable for the topic and language skills. When following the lesson plan you
exactly know What to do, Why to do, How to do. You are confident about your
activities, students are eager to do the tasks and expecting much, exiting, useful.
Clear instructions and careful attitude to your feedback demonstrate that you are
not indifferent teacher. Listen to your students
’
answers carefully support them,
do not make correction during student
’
s speaking, do it later. Encouragement is
one of the motivating points at the lesson. Inspire your students to learn anything
new at your lesson, praise them when any.
There are many effective techniques in teaching languages that help both
teachers and students to reach their goals at the lessons. Teachers choose them
according to the skills to be developed in the topic. To develop speaking skills we
can use short videos close to the topic of the lesson and language level of the
group. Divide the video into 3 parts. Select key words for students to remember,
preteach them. Prepare several questions for post watching stage, discuss the
main idea of the video with the whole class. Ask students whatnew they learned
in the video.
CONCLUSION
To sum up the thesis, it should be noted that the components of successful
lesson such as teacher
’
s and students
’
role at the lesson, resources used in the
course, proper environmental, emotional and educational aspect in class are
milestones in successful language class.
