Relevance

In the 21st century, globalization and technological advancement have accelerated the

integration of English vocabulary into many world languages, including Uzbek. Broadcast
media and online platforms, which serve as powerful tools of mass communication, reflect and
propagate these linguistic changes. This study is relevant as it sheds light on how English
loanwords are adopted and adapted within Uzbek media discourse, and what this implies for
the evolution of the Uzbek language.

Purpose

The purpose of this thesis is to explore the extent and manner in which English has

influenced modern Uzbek-language broadcast and online platforms. It aims to analyze the
frequency, context, and categories of English borrowings, and examine public and linguistic
reactions to such changes. The study also seeks to evaluate the impact of this phenomenon on
the development of the Uzbek lexicon and language policy.

Materials and Methods

The study collected data from 100 Uzbek media sources, including television programs,

YouTube channels, news websites, and social media pages. Particular focus was placed on
content from channels like MY5, UzReport, Kun.uz, and Daryo.uz. Borrowed English terms were
extracted and classified by topic: technology, fashion, economy, politics, and youth culture.
Quantitative analysis involved frequency counts, while qualitative analysis examined
contextual integration and audience perception. Interviews with media professionals and
linguists were conducted to gain deeper insights.

Research Results

Analysis showed that English borrowings were most frequent in technological and digital

communication contexts. Words such as 'stream', 'update', 'blogger', 'deadline', and 'startup'
appeared regularly in Uzbek media content. In broadcast news, English terms were often
transliterated, while online platforms demonstrated more direct use of original forms. Social
media influencers used English extensively to appear trendy and globally connected. Interviews
revealed a generational divide in attitudes: younger audiences were more accepting, while
older speakers expressed concerns over linguistic purity. Linguists noted that while some
borrowings fill lexical gaps, excessive use may weaken the internal structure of Uzbek
vocabulary.

Conclusion

The influence of English on Uzbek media is a dynamic and evolving phenomenon. While

it facilitates global connectivity and modernization, it also raises questions about linguistic
identity and preservation. The integration of English terms in Uzbek media highlights the need
for balanced language planning that encourages innovation while protecting the core of Uzbek

linguistic heritage. Ongoing monitoring and academic inquiry are essential to understanding
and managing this linguistic shift.
