This study was conducted to determine the impact of exemplary moral behavior in sports on the development of
social character. The study was prepared as a review article by studying the necessary literature. In the modern world,
the social character decreases every day. Societies acquire character when the society in which they live exhibits
behaviors such as respect, love, morality, morals, and virtue. Exemplary behavior experienced in our environment is
of great importance in the development of this social character. Moral behavior has a positive impact on society,
especially in the sports community. Sports events are watched by millions of people in visual, written and social media,
and exemplary behavior in this area is one of the important tools that influence the social character. Ethical behavior
in the sports community has a major impact on society. For example, all actions of star athletes are controlled by the
society and form the fan base of the star athlete. Human values arise when an athlete helps, cares for, and respects
his or her injured opponent. In this context, moral and ethical behavior that has experience in sports contributes to
the development of social character. Consequently, the promotion and promotion of exemplary moral and ethical
behavior displayed in the sports community becomes essential for the formation of social character.

Sports training not only improves physical and mental
health, but also promotes a person's development of
good manners, such as manners, manners, respect,
and kindness. It is wrong to consider sports only as
some kind of physical activity and sports game. Sports
make a great contribution to the physical development
of people, as well as to psychological and social
development. Sports activities are especially important
in the development of social character. In this respect,
moral behavior in sports activities is of great
importance for shaping the character of society.
In modern society, spiritual values are rapidly being
replaced by material ones. Unfortunately, the desire to
see the right behavior that we expect in society
decreases every day.
In the formation of social character, significant factors
are the style of production, technology, the temporal
and spatial location of the society to which it belongs,
climate, natural resources, language, etc. Many factors
are crucial. Although the institutions of the mentor
structure, such as religion, politics, education, culture,
and law, are structured according to the social
character, they also play an influential and formative
role in the social character according to their dynamic
characteristics. In addition, if the social nature and level
of institutionalization do not coincide, it is impossible
to turn the social structure in the desired direction by
developing personal consciousness and showing
initiative.
When developing a social character, it is necessary to
better understand the concept of morality. Moral
behavior has a positive impact on the values of society.
Ethics is a set of rules that define right and wrong
behavior. These ethical principles tell us that our
behavior is acceptable, unacceptable, or wrong . Ethics
is a branch of philosophy that addresses questions
about which actions are morally right and which are
wrong, which is a valuable definition.
Today, sport is one of the easiest ways to develop
people physically, emotionally and socially, to facilitate
their teamwork, to ensure cohesion and membership
in society. In addition to being a set of exercises, sport
refers to a concept that helps a person to socialize,
giving people a sense of personal and social identity
and belonging to a group. Good behavior formed by
individuals in sports activities leads to the formation of
social character. Sports contribute not only to physical
development, but also to physiological, psychological,
personality and character development.
What makes societies national is their cultural values,
preserved from the past to the present. Cultures feed
on the past and are one of the important building
blocks that shape the future. In the formation of
cultures, there are events, programs, festivals,
festivities, sports competitions that are held
depending on our customs and traditions. Among such
events, an important place is occupied by the sport of

of eliminating factors that contribute to the loss of
values that occur today.
This study was conducted to identify the positive
impact of ethical behavior in sports activities on the
character of society. The study was prepared as a
review article by studying the necessary literature.
Ethics and morals
It comes from the word "Sports ethos", which
means"character". The concept of "morality" derived
from the ethos arises from the study of moral rules and
values that relate to the ideal and the abstract.
Morality is more specific and philosophical than the
moral rules that are common in society. The field of
interest of ethics is the study of the foundations of all
human behavior and actions. Morals are generally
value judgments and principles that people call good,
bad, right, and wrong in their relationships with each
other and with institutions. In everyday life, the
concept of morality is often used as a synonym for
morality. Ethics is also called the branch of philosophy
that studies the basics of ethics. Ethics is also a set of
ethical principles; it refers to professional ethics,
principles, and rules. Moral values and principles are
more universal than morality.
The concept of ethics is now found not only in
philosophy or political science, but also in various
academic disciplines (public administration, business
administration, medicine, law, sociology, etc.).) as a set
of moral principles that must be followed. many
professions.. Ethics; it is argued that this phenomenon
lives and develops in many areas of life, such as science
ethics, Political ethics, judicial ethics, art ethics,
management ethics, media ethics, sports ethics and
medical ethics.
Ethics: expressing correct and incorrect criteria
regarding the past and present. Moral values are aimed
at increasing the social responsibility of organizations,
as well as individual responsibility. The social
responsibility of institutions requires commitment to
society, sensitivity and integrity . Ethics is a concept
that is very difficult to define today at a time when
individual and social life is changing and changing at a
very rapid pace, and there is a strong crisis of values. A
person who exists within the framework of the social
system leads a personal moral life and embodies by his
actions the moral principles and values of the society in
which he lives.
Morality, defined in various ways , is a philosophical
science that studies in the most general sense the
values, norms and rules that make up the essence of
human relations. Since man is a social being, he lives in
society and over time forms his own reality in each
society. These truths, which can be expressed as local
morality, become universal when viewed from a moral
point of view.

Morality is a set of rules that people accept and must
abide by in society. Social consciousness, form of
behavior and ideological attitudes; this is a set of moral
views, values, norms, principles, attitudes and
behaviors inherent in a social formation, class,
segment, historically and specifically determined and
regulating their attitude to a particular community,
class, state or relationship. the whole society.
The key difference between ethics and ethics; ethics is
a field of philosophy that critically examines the
question of ethics. Morality refers to the shared values
and beliefs that define good and bad, and morality
refers to the process of choosing and regulating right
and wrong based on these moral values and behaviors.
Moral education examines the moral aspects of a
person and society and examines how standards of
right/wrong are developed. Ancient philosophies and
religions establish the foundations of moral arguments
and moral factors for restoring good in schools.
Ethics in sports
Sports are a tool that helps people develop physically,
mentally, emotionally, and socially, improving their
knowledge, skills, and leadership skills. Sports help
people regulate themselves and deal with the
psychological and physiological problems they may
encounter. Today, the attitude of the media to sports,
the efforts of people to relieve stress, maintain the
health of their bodies, and, above all, the international
success achieved in sports, are becoming very
important in the daily life of society, at the level of
spirituality. an important aspect of sports.
Sports ethics generally covers the sports aspects that
play an important role in the development of sports,
upholding their rights and responsibilities in
accordance with universal values such as honesty,
fairness, transparency, impartiality and respect. work
on principles. Coaches who play an important role in
shaping this behaviorshould adopt professional ethical
coaching principles within the framework of
professional ethics and demonstrate them in their
behavior. However, people belonging to a professional
group are expected to behave fairly, humanely, and
humanely, and to demonstrate such behavior
themselves by fulfilling the requirements of their
profession.
Professional ethics arises as a set of principles and
values that guide people to make rational choices
through the study of the right and wrong behavior of a
particular professional group. The most important
feature of professional ethics is that professional
members must adhere to specific written rules and
principles of professional ethics developed individually
for each profession in accordance with basic moral
values such as honesty, fairness, equality and respect .
In sports, the ethical behavior of all stakeholders, such
as athletes, coaches, referees, and spectators,

positively influences order, respect, kindness, and
integrity in the sports community.
General social personality disorder also harms sports,
among other things. In sports ethics, it is the athlete,
coach, manager, and fan who are the subjects of the
problem and are the first to face the problem. An
athlete's compliance with pre-defined rules is a
normative aspect of sports ethics. But the most
important thing, and the phenomenon associated with
normative sports ethics, is the violation of basic social
values. As the mission of sports changes and the values
taken into account in sports evolve in accordance with
changing values in society, the problems of sports
ethics become more and more relevant. At the same
time, some negative ethical violations are allowed in
the sports media. Ethics violations not only undermine
the credibility of the press, but also damage the sport.
Discomfort in this case is also expressed by sports
columnists.
Social character and personality
The concept of society can be defined in different
ways. Many sociologists have also tried to define
society. However, it is difficult to say whether these
definitions provide a complete definition of society.
Because society; is unity, opposition, matter, culture
and formation originating from a particular residence.
The state is a form of political organization that rigidly
clings to the social organization, is formed through it
and forms it. States are formed under the influence of
societies, under the influence of cultures, and also have
a strong influence as the main actor in the political
history of the respective country. Collectivism, on the
other hand, exists in societies where people are bound
together by strong and rigid groups from birth, and this
loyalty exists throughout life in exchange for
unquestionable loyalty.
Social character; these are character traits that are
usually displayed by people living in a particular society
and that are common to all of them. Social character; it
is a mechanism that helps shape the character of its
members and guide them towards social goals. In this
process, on the one hand, it determines the
responsibilities, roles, and responsibilities of its
members, as well as when and where they should
perform them.
Character development is a holistic approach that
combines the ethical dimension of education with the
social and civic dimensions of student life. Basic social
relations and values are described and anchored in the
school and society. Those who say that schools do not
reinforce social values are those who fail to define the
fundamentals and expectations of the education
system. Education is valuable because it determines
what is modeled by society or not.
Generally, the word "character" is defined as a specific
behavior associated with values such as honesty, hard

work, reliability, or humanity. The word character is a
term used primarily in moral psychology. People agree
that character shows virtue and quality. When people
are said to have character, it means that they tend to
do the right thing and do the right thing morally, and
feel and think accordingly. Because they understand
what's right and wrong, they choose what's right, even
if it's bad for them in some ways. Thus, these people
are defined as moral.
Human development is a complex process consisting
of various basic dimensions, such as physical, mental,
social, and moral development, and there is a
relationship between each dimension.
Although some thinkers consider the concept of
character separate from the concept of personality
imposed by moral qualities, they are largely
synonymous. Character is the expression of all of a
person's interests, attitudes, abilities, lifestyle,
appearance, and ability to adapt to the environment. In
character education, the school defines the core values
of the school and tries to teach these shared values and
anchor them in the lives of students. A consensus
needs to be reached to develop a common view on
which character traits should be strengthened.
Character education is often used to describe raising
children in ways that help students develop as personal
and social beings. Such education includes teaching
students and adolescents the values of " honesty,
kindness, generosity, bravery, freedom, justice,
equality, and respect."
Social character and individual character also influence
and influence each other. As a result, people who
consciously accept the views developed by the social
character cannot restrain and display the desired
behavior if their character structure differs from the
social one.
Personality encompasses the enduring aspects of a
person's mental, emotional, social, and physical
characteristics. In this sense, we can say that
personality is the most fundamental element that
determines patterns and responses regarding a
person's persistent tendencies, behaviors, and
relationships. In another definition, personality; it is
argued that these are whole systems that determine
specific thoughts and behavior of a person.
The concept of value education focuses on the
education of civil and moral values in practice; the
concept of "character education", which is currently
used in a sense close to this concept and includes
spiritual, moral, socio-cultural development, is aimed
at the education of virtues, attitudes and personal
qualities. In a sense, character education deals with the
formation of character or the development of good
habits in a child.

By interacting with the economic, social, cultural and
political conditions and institutions of the society in
which people live; membership in this society is called
socialization. The bearers of this process are not only
the family and educational institutions, but also
language, religion, customs, traditions, folk motifs,
literary life and proverbs. People who are socialized
and have a parallel character to the social, find in this
process the opportunity to meet their emotional,
spiritual, mental and material needs. In other words,
socialization is the process of developing behavior that
conforms to the norms and values that apply in the
adult environment. According to another definition,
socialization is a process that allows a person to follow
group norms and learn them.
Playing sports is not only a physical activity, but also a
process of socialization and adaptation to society.
Sports are restricted by a number of rules. In addition,
it requires the ability to adapt to the team according to
its characteristics. Through socialization, people learn
patterns of attitudes and actions, examples and ways
of thinking promoted by society . Thus, socialization is
a mechanism that allows a person to integrate into the
social culture and adapt to the society in which he lives
. Culture is like a sign that helps distinguish one society
from another and represents its characteristics. For
him, cultural unity is more important than racial unity
or borderline unity. If a people has a culture, this nation
exists, if there is no culture or it has lost its essence,
then this society has now changed its identity.
Culture is the soul of the people, the elixir of their life;
it is the greatest representative of salvation and
ascension. Just as the div cannot live without the
soul, people with an outdated culture cannot live.
Culture governs human behavior, culture is stability,
and because it is dynamic, it is constantly and
constantly changing. In the sociological sense, the
culture of a society is primarily its spoken and written
language, literature, art, science, philosophy, customs,
traditions, customs, folk beliefs, customs, morals and
law, values, symbols, economic understanding, rituals
and rituals. This is a style of music, painting, games,
sculpture, and architecture. Culture refers to the
totality of a nation's spiritual values, such as language,
religion, morals, and art. Culture appears in society as a
product of legislation. Culture, on the one hand,
regulates social life, and on the other, controls it.
Fair play in sports
Fair play is manifested in the fact that athletes show
patience, consistent and conscious compliance with
the rules even in difficult conditions during
competitions, do not try to take advantage of the
unfair shortcomings of the opponent, and see the
opponent not as an enemy, but as an opponent. an
equal person and partner that allows you to play the
game. The concept of fair play is not a new form of

communication that concerns only the referee-athlete
or two athletes. Fair-play is a new concept in the sports
industry that directly applies to everyone involved in
sports, from spectators to massage therapists, from
athletes to coaches, from managers to judges. All
stakeholders involved in sports must behave in a
disciplined, honest, ethical, polite, respectful and
tolerant manner and within certain rules. When we
consider the concept of fair play in terms of human and
social aspects, the goal of humanistic ethics is not to
suppress human evil, but to ensure that the primary
opportunities inherent in human nature are creatively
exploited. When a society wants to make people
virtuous, it should strive to make them creative,
thereby creating an environment conducive to
creativity. Fair-play should be considered not only as a
concept regulating sports relations, but also as a
cultural phenomenon. Obey traffic lights, stand in line,
respect the rights of others, defend your rights-all
these and similar actions are fair game
An example of ethical behavior in sports
Good behavior, which is a role model, is accepted by
society and forces them to show such behavior.
Instructive behavior that occurs in social life is a source
of nutrition of a social nature. Examples of behavior
reflected in the sports media are given below.
•
At an interscholastic track and field
competition in the United States, he lost
consciousness a few meters before the finish
line and crossed the finish line before himself,
grabbing the waist of his girlfriend, who was
about to fall.
•
During the race, jockey Erhan Yavuz Khalis
allowed his opponent to finish the race by
giving the broken tail to the horse Karatash
was riding .
•
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wanted the
match, which may have been won in the FA Cup
5th round, to be postponed. Once again,
Nwankwo caught a ball thrown in the street to
heal Sheffield United player Lee Morris.
Instead of returning the ball to his opponent,
Kanu passed it to his teammate Overmars, who
scored the winning goal. 10 days later, the
game was repeated, and Arsenal again won 2-

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
There are sources from the past to the present, such
as traditions, customs, and traditions that feed social
values. In the developing modern world, this
traditional behavior of our ancestors began to be
forgotten. Some tools are needed to protect social
values and, as a result, improve the social character.
Sports training not only improves the physical, mental,
character and personal state, but also visually attracts
a large audience. Just like around the world, sports
events are followed by millions of people in visual,

written and social media. While there are star athletes
on the sports fields. Star athletes who have become
idols of many athletes and people are closely followed
by their followers. The exemplary behavior of star
athletes also affects millions of their followers.
It is wrong to expect spontaneous social
development. People shape their character by feeding
on internal and external influences that affect family,
school, neighborhood, and others. People with
character and qualities are one of the most important
elements that contribute to the formation of beautiful
societies.
One of the most important factors that allow
developing a social character is sports activity. Moral
behavior in sports positively contributes to the
development of social character. To win in the sports
community, negative behavior such as greed, striving
for results, cheating, or harming an opponent must be
strongly condemned by the entire society. However,
athletes, coaches, referees and other stakeholders in
the sports community are expected to proceed
cautiously. It should not be forgotten that all
stakeholders in sports are monitored by a large part of
society. Especially in the modern world, visual, written
and social networks are widely used. Sports all actions
of stakeholders are made available to the entire
community as soon as possible. Sports stakeholders
should contribute to the development of social
character by being exemplary human models. Moral,
religious, cultural values and behavioral education
should be provided for the development and
promotion of good behavior.
